  • most of them they stink
  • are unhealthy
  • no, that is not the fresh smell of a spring meadow
  • they give me a headache
  • are a fire risk (the plug in ones)

ffs open the windows and let air in.

Yep, I agree, open a bloody window! I HATE this motion sensor ones, they make me feel ill.

valiumredhead · 19/09/2012 21:38

I am sure I read that they can contribute to depression too wish I could remember random crap like that

HecateHarshPants · 19/09/2012 21:39

I buy the so called odour neutralising ones.

Sometimes it's not possible to open all your windows. It's bloody cold for a start!

And, atm, my house smells like something crawled under the floorboards and died and I can't figure out what it is, so I'm chucking air freshener about like nobody's business! Grin

snowmummy · 19/09/2012 21:41

I hate them too. Doesn't make sense, to me, to try and mask smells with chemicals pumped into the air.

MousyMouse · 19/09/2012 21:41

there is nothing worse than a bad smell accentuated by arctic sea breeze...

I always open the windows for a bit during the day whatever the weather.

A mouse maybe Hecate?

Fakebook · 19/09/2012 21:42

I don't get them either. They're good in the bathroom though, to "mask" certain smells.

valiumredhead · 19/09/2012 21:45

Oh yes, poo mixed with summer meadows Grin

LST · 19/09/2012 21:46

I have plug ins. I love them. I also open windows.

Not sure why that even comes into it Hmm

andallthatjargon · 19/09/2012 21:46

If your house smells it's because you don't air it enough. We always have windows open except in possible minus temps and even then will try for a bit.

HecateHarshPants · 19/09/2012 21:46

god knows. Nobody else can smell it but it's driving me NUTS! It's so bad I can taste it. Smells like burning dust or something. I'm driving my poor husband to a breakdown going Can you smell it? Can't you smell it? WHY can't you smell it? day in day out Grin

Give me Cool Linen or Blackberry Fig over that any day!

McHappyPants2012 · 19/09/2012 21:47

i

valiumredhead · 19/09/2012 21:47

OPen your bloody windows then hecate Wink

McHappyPants2012 · 19/09/2012 21:48

Hecate is it around either your tv or home PC

rempy · 19/09/2012 21:48

HecateHarshPants:

Get a baby bottle cleaner brush. Attach it to a sturdy stick of bamboo with tape. Push brush down all of the gaps in the radiators, in every room in the house. If you, or the previous occupant have/had a cat, you will liberate VAST quantities of cat hair, and eliminate the smell. And feel very, very nauseous....

Fakebook · 19/09/2012 21:49

Mmmmm poo and summer meadows. It's like going on a camping trip, in your bathroom. What more could anyone want?

Fakebook · 19/09/2012 21:52

Hecate, do you have your landline phone plugged in anywhere? I could smell something for weeks once and couldnt pin point the smell, then one day I heard a massive bang and the phone adaptor had exploded in the socket. I'd check all your plugged in electrical things.

cupofteaandasliceofcake · 19/09/2012 21:53

YANBU. They stink. If you want to freshen up a room, why not throw open all the windows?! Far fresher and nicer, and airs everything!
Hardly fresher when you squirt pongy chemicals into the air, is it?! Confused

Socknickingpixie · 19/09/2012 21:54

hecate check your fridge isant leaking.

op yanbu

HecateHarshPants · 19/09/2012 21:54

I DOOO! All summer they're open. Bathroom window stays open all year round. But it's too cold to be blowing a gale into the house!

No, McHappy, I smell it everywhere. Right now I can smell and taste it in the back of my throat!

Rempy - I'll try that, thanks.

MousyMouse · 19/09/2012 21:55

...and washing dries quicker when you open the windows!

HecateHarshPants · 19/09/2012 21:55

xpost. I'll have a look at those things too, Fakebook and sock

TodaysAGoodDay · 19/09/2012 21:57

I get headaches from them. If something stinks there's a reason for it. Open a window and/or clean. Personally the smell of -ahem- fecal matter mixed with Ocean Breeze or somesuch shite is utterly revolting.

HecateHarshPants · 19/09/2012 21:59

Shock my house is spotless ta very much! MNers who've been here can testify to that! Grin

happy2bhomely · 19/09/2012 22:00

I use air fresheners in my home in the same way I use perfume on my body. It is not a substitute for cleaning or opening windows, but I love fragrance. I like sprays and candles and linen sprays and febreze, all of them! I love the smell of washing powder and fabric softener. I like strong smelling shower gels and shampoos too. I use essential oils sometimes too. I don't use plug ins anymore because a fireman told me they were dangerous, (don't know if that's true).
