Next door neighbour asked me yesterday if she could put me down as the second driver on her new car.

Had no idea what she was talking about so she whipped out a Ford brochure and informed me that she is getting a new Meriva and needs to put someone down as a second driver, but her Mum lives 6 miles away.

Still not got to the bottom of why she needs a second driver, but she did tell me that she's entitled to the car because she's got bad knees, in fact she says she has no knee caps at all! Confused

Neighbour and I attend a slimming class together, and she needs to lose several stone, (which can't be helping her knees) but her weight doesn't stop her walking with me, 6-7 miles, up and down hills, with a pushchair, 3 times a week, and attending a Zumba class with me. Nor does it stop her having regular stalls at bootfairs from 6am til 2pm on Sundays.

Surely if she can manage all that, she shouldn't be entitled to a new car for her 'disability' when so many other, genuinely disabled people struggle to get any help at all? She doesn't even use her current car very often, she walks everywhere!

pmsl - oh so it is fine to be filmed scuba diving and break dancing while claiming - oh I see.

Peachy · 19/09/2012 17:09

'Reports will be investigated. If there is no fraud, no action will be taken. Don't worry about

No, not true, friend of mine was maliciously reported and had to go through a 3 month fact finding process before getting it reinstated; he came within a week of losing his motability car, and being unable to leave house.

Now don;t get me wrong, am not anti reporting- just make sure you've a valid reason is all.

Ds1 can breakdance. his is a valid claim- for care component, he has autism and attends a special school. DLA comes in different components.

Peachy yes a friend of my mum had hers stopped - it was a terrible time and was stopped for ages before it was reinstated.

Pinkforever · 19/09/2012 17:11

Report it then usual.

UnChartered · 19/09/2012 17:12

Blazer - the OP was responding to her first response though, where she was told to "report or feck off" (although I've just seen that that post was deleted so you might not have known that).

I had a letter back along, from DWP- checking that I still have ds3's permission to act as his Carer, and that he would not prefer to have the money paid directly.

He was (has had a birthday) an eight year old autistic kid with pretty severe impairments! It was not a mistake, a fair few people got them at the same time. I think you'd need pretty big balls to make a fraudulent claim tbh- and that chances are you will be far less easily caught out than someone genuinely claiming for an invisible or intermittent disability: for example if Man X was asked to ATOS about a fake bad back he would say ooooh me back I can;t sit down; take ds1 in and he will pretend nothing is wrong as he lacks the self awareness to grasp anything is.

Now, we get it for ds1 and ds3, we are also entitled for ds4 (yes thanks we know it's genetic NOW) and Paediattrian said apply but I can't face it, neitehr the form nor the general disapproval.

olgaga · 19/09/2012 17:14

OP if I were you I'd ask her about it. It may be she has nail-patella syndrome which can manifest itself in different ways, but almost always leads to mobility and other medical problems in later life. It can often go undiagnosed for years as it's quite rare.

Peachy · 19/09/2012 17:17

Valium yep- he was a 59 year old man with a buggered spine, shrapnel in his hip and PTSD; the visintg DWP Dr made him get on and off the bed repeatedly whilst he wept in pain, all sorts- Dr even 'accidentally' left her handbag behind so she could pop back half an hour later to see who opened the door Hmm. This was after the army submitted reams of paperwork and x-rays showing his problems.

Lady with a grudge made report after there was a fall out in a social group they were members of.

DogsCock · 19/09/2012 17:17

I do not intend to get into a row about this, as I never ever do. I don't give a shit who claims for what if it is legit. Same as practically everyone else on here.

My first post was stating the OP should ask more questions about quite what her name was going on. Insurance? Whether this woman was expecting her to drive this car. Fair Q's IMO

Then I asked twice to those in the know about such things whether there would be any repercussions, should this be found to be a fraudulent claim. Fair Q

Would you lot put your name willy nilly on someone else's forms without asking.

Then of course all the horrible sarcasm came along toward the OP and away it went.

As it always does!

McHappyPants2012 · 19/09/2012 17:17

it's taken me over 3 weeks to fill in DS DLA form, finding, copying and sending all the supporting info.

It's not like a passport form, it's a book

And anyone who is under suspicion should blame the real fraudsters for their predicament. Nobody else.

DogsCock · 19/09/2012 17:20

Am bored with it all now so am off.

ShirtyKnot · 19/09/2012 17:21

I haven't a failure to grasp anything. Seems odd to me the blindness connected with the actual statistics, but hey.

Peachy · 19/09/2012 17:22

of course I would not put my name on the form, cetainly without asking.

That bit is ODD imo.

it's otehr bits than rankled.

devientenigma · 19/09/2012 17:23

it's a book thats very depressing, makes you aware of how much out of the norm your child, family and lifestyle are!

On top of that it makes you aware of your child that has many medical complaints equal to an old man.

How he will never be a brain surgeon, write his name or even know what a letter is? Never mind money, bills and currency.

How much his life depends on this money you are about to receive and how much life isn't worth living with the money/car never mind without!!

threeOrangesocksmorgan · 19/09/2012 17:26

I hate these thread.
they just hurt vulnerable posters who have enough hard stuff to deal with.
if the op is genuine, she should not sign up to anything she is not sure of.
other than that her neighbours medical stuff is not her business and she should keep her nose out.

D0oinMeCleanin · 19/09/2012 17:30

My Dad's doctors keep telling him to apply for DLA. They insist he should be entitled. He previously got incapacity benefit or some such (one of the scrapped ones)

He walks for three miles over sand dunes, rock pools and other difficult terrain with his dogs each evening. Doesn't sound very incapacitated does he?

What you can't tell from looking at him is that he is in constant pain and there are nights where he has to sleep on the living room floor after his walk because he cannot physically get up stairs to bed. He has severe arthritis in his spine, which his doctor describes as "disintegrating" he will be in a wheelchair within 12 months. He walks them because he is only the person who will. It causes him great pain.

Not all disabilities are visible.

MrsjREwing · 19/09/2012 17:33

what enigma said.

I lost my DLA in July, they said I was no longer entitled, I am iller. I am in a lot of pain when walking and I am exhausted, the effort to get a parking ticket and walking back to display it and being squashed and hurting as I get out of regular parking spaces is agony. I have no blue badge right now. I am still waiting a decision on the second person looking at the claim. If they say no, I am going to appeal, that will probably be months away.

valiumredhead · 19/09/2012 17:35

mrs ewing you should still have a blue badge even if you don't get benefits - I have one. You need to talk to your GP.

MrsjREwing · 19/09/2012 17:38

I have been working myself up to speak to my GP. I am too exhausted and feelibg so low right now, I managed no tears today, I have hospital tomorrow, that will wipe me out until next week, so I will try next week.

valiumredhead · 19/09/2012 17:42

It's to do with your disability being permanent or not. I hope you get something sorted x
