Next door neighbour asked me yesterday if she could put me down as the second driver on her new car.

Had no idea what she was talking about so she whipped out a Ford brochure and informed me that she is getting a new Meriva and needs to put someone down as a second driver, but her Mum lives 6 miles away.

Still not got to the bottom of why she needs a second driver, but she did tell me that she's entitled to the car because she's got bad knees, in fact she says she has no knee caps at all! Confused

Neighbour and I attend a slimming class together, and she needs to lose several stone, (which can't be helping her knees) but her weight doesn't stop her walking with me, 6-7 miles, up and down hills, with a pushchair, 3 times a week, and attending a Zumba class with me. Nor does it stop her having regular stalls at bootfairs from 6am til 2pm on Sundays.

Surely if she can manage all that, she shouldn't be entitled to a new car for her 'disability' when so many other, genuinely disabled people struggle to get any help at all? She doesn't even use her current car very often, she walks everywhere!

I'm reporting Ford for Fraudulently having a Meriva in their brochure when it's actually a Vauxhall!

I don't know anything about her entitlement to DLA but it's quite possible she has no kneecaps. I have a friend who has none - but she has had numerous operations on her legs throughout her life and is still very active and mobile, despite having no kneecaps. They're not essential! And in fact if you look at her legs, you wouldn't necessarily know.

She does have problems with her knees hence the need to keep mobile - lots of exercises to stop them stiffening up - but my friend certainly wouldn't be claiming DLA for this.

ShirtyKnot · 19/09/2012 16:08

Has anyone reported the OP on that basis?

The meriva basis that is.

crashdollGOLD · 19/09/2012 16:09

Why do people act in such a vile manner in these threads? Is it really that hard to believe that some people so scam the system?

I applied for DLA. I got awarded LR mobility and MR care. No one consulted my doctor or consultant (I asked out of interest) and I wasn't called for a medical. I could have been lying through my fucking teeth. Unfortunately, I wasn't and the reality is, I do incur many costs as a result of my condition.

WorraLiberty · 19/09/2012 16:09

Vauxhall make the Meriva, so what the fuckety fuck was she doing showing you a Ford brochure?

UnChartered - that is way below the belt

you need to get that removed.

ShirtyKnot · 19/09/2012 16:12

I mean, it comes to something when they can't even be arsed to check the fake manufacturorororor of the fake car. [sadface]

crashdollGOLD · 19/09/2012 16:13

Everyone piles in, making 'jokes', taking the mick and ignores the fact that fraud does happen. Is this lady claiming fradulently? I don't know but it does happen and making jokes and reporting people for being 'cunts' makes you look silly.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/09/2012 16:14

If you dont feel comfortable doing it then say no.

BTW one of my patients is signed off on DLA for corns on the bottom of his feet (podiatrist). I have a corn, I might put a claim in.

If you have no patella what do your thigh muscles attach to? Confused.

Of course fraud happens. But not very much. And OP is full of shit quite wrong on several things.

threeOrangesocksmorgan · 19/09/2012 16:15

if people think it is all so easy. why not try it
get a disability and fill in the VERY long and invasive form

BalloonTwister · 19/09/2012 16:15

Jesus.

Where in my op did I say I was going to report her? I have no understanding of DLA and am concerned that I have been asked to put my name to something I find a bit odd.

I apologise for getting Vauxhall and Ford confused, youd think I'd know better having grown up in Dagenham!

I have no idea why she's getting a new car when her current one is only 3 years old, but she definitely said she needed another nominated driver that lived within a 5 mile radius.

I am sorry so many posters are having trouble getting legitimate claims processed, I hope things get better for you soon.

crazynanna · 19/09/2012 16:16

Isn't DLA fraud something like 0.4%? So that makes 99.6% of claims valid and legal...I will accept that figure is enough to take the piss of this thread

crashdollGOLD · 19/09/2012 16:16

It's ok thanks, usual but I tend not to run around and report people especially not on grounds on me thinking they're a little foolish.

MissConstrued · 19/09/2012 16:16

I admit it does sound suspicious and fraudulent claims happen. However, I watched a documentary recently about people who were victimised for claiming DLA. A man was abused in his own home because his neighbour thought his claim for DLA was fraudulent (not that i'm saying you would abuse her of course, just using an extreme example). He was able to walk sometimes but at other times he needed 2 sticks due to pain etc. So the neighbour assumed his case was fraudulent based on fact he could walk/mow lawn etc during his well times. So its possible she fits same scenario. Only her doctor would know.
