Watching now. Teenagers being arrested. Parents seem to think that's fine and part of growing up. I cannot believe people like that exist...

OP posts:

kayano - Some on here are shocked by this programme and so clearly ahve no idea. As I posted in my comment about the crawling toddler I too know families like this and feel desperately sorry for their children. And I did read your posts too.

But mocking a prostituted woman for being in an obviously desparate situation is not reasonable behaviour

TroublesomeEx · 18/09/2012 12:32

And it ignores every single one of the children of shitty parents who does break away.

Surely we should be celebrating them and not supporting a sense of inevitability around it.

When I worked in CP there was a girl whose family were shocking - mum had pretty much turned the house into a brothel, major drugs problems, dreadful. When the SW went round to visit, the girls (year 6) bedroom was immaculate. Her homework was always done and she attended school everyday. The school were shocked because they had no idea.

BupcakesandCunting · 18/09/2012 12:32

"Some of you seem to have led a very sheltered life and frankly have no idea of what some womens lives are like."

LOL

I used to live across the road from a prostitute, thanks.

TroublesomeEx · 18/09/2012 12:33

And I haven't lived a 'sheltered life' either. I think that's what makes me so unsympathetic and unwilling to see it an inevitable.

If you are free to wander the streets peddling your wares, there is always a choice.

TroublesomeEx · 18/09/2012 12:34

as not an

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 18/09/2012 12:34

Well then bupcakes I am even more disgusted that you would mock a woman in this way.

Folkgirl - Of course we should be supporting children who manage to escape from this. And although it is difficult, some do. My first teenage boyfriend escaped from a house like this and I saw it, it was grim.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/09/2012 12:35

Andrea's daughter is having a pretty shit life, but she isn't under the pier giving blow jobs and sex for a fiver.

Fwiw, Bupcakes, I was amused by the 'portion of crabs' comment, and don't think it makes you a cunt. I actually saw it as being more directed at, and mocking of, the lad in the hoodie.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves

"But thats community care for you! "

Quite. I think it's desperately sad that anyone could end up living like this. I'm sure at the age of ten none of them had this lifestyle as an ambition.

TroublesomeEx · 18/09/2012 12:36

And I think a bit of gallows humour is just that.

The joke was on the teenage boy, not the woman.

Whatever her situation, he really should have known better.

I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that a sex worker might not have a clean bill of sexual health.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 18/09/2012 12:38

Please dont use the phrase sex worker as if this is just another job.

Bupcakes - I actually have lots to do to occupy my time. I suspect strongly that I spend way less time on here than most of you.

Kayano · 18/09/2012 12:40

You've been here loads of late Grin who are you kidding?

Oh sorry . We don't kid here

"Andrea's daughter is having a pretty shit life, but she isn't under the pier giving blow jobs and sex for a fiver"

No one expects to be doing that - but add in a drug habit to block out the mental pain, drinks with friends which become daily, the all day and znyone's life can easily become this.

I've a friend who is beautiful and successful who nearly lost everything through drug/drink addiction. She has recovered but only with strong support from family and friends. If you don't have this, it's very tough indeed.

TroublesomeEx · 18/09/2012 12:42

I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that a woman who prostitutes herself might not have a clean bill of sexual health.

It's just that you seemed to have a problem with her being described in that way too.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 18/09/2012 12:45

"Andrea's daughter is having a pretty shit life, but she isn't under the pier giving blow jobs and sex for a fiver"

Yes, it sounds like she is, but this idea that if one person can do well under difficult circumstances then anyone can is just silly. It's as daft as saying that if one person can run 100 metres in less than ten seconds, then anyone can. Some people are exceptional, both physically and mentally, others are somewhat frailer.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 18/09/2012 12:49

"I used to live across the road from a prostitute, thanks. "

I live across the road from a vicar, that doesn't make me a theologian.

cbeebiesinducedcoma · 18/09/2012 12:52

I'm sorry I have to recap here...a 15 (underage) year old boy had sex acts performed on him by a woman who is god knows how old,
lies about being raped.
Oh yes...and performed sex acts in front of children. But yes poor iccle woman.

Lets reverse the situation, and 15 year old girl has sex acts performed on her by a much , much older man for her to pay him for the luxury Hmm and then tells the police he was forced ?

Are we still so sympathetic ? I actually feel more sorry for the lad having a sexual experience with someone so rough and so much older must have been quite unpleasant. This is a child we are talking about or does that only matter in regards to girls?.
Hmm

wannabedomesticgoddess · 18/09/2012 12:53

I have certainly not had a sheltered life.

I just dont need to get on my high horse about a joke made about a situation that, while terrible, cannot be changed.

Life is bloody hard. For everyone.

We dont all end up turning to drink and drugs and selling ourselves for a fiver.

The professionally outraged must be so tired.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 18/09/2012 12:55

And surely she was technically sexually assaulting a minor?

GoldShip · 18/09/2012 12:55

Women who prostitute themselves are usually EXTREMELY clean. It's their livelihood to be like rha. Plus they have sexual health nurses visiting brothels these days.

But this woman wasn't a prostitute. She just took an opportunity to make a quick fiver.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 18/09/2012 12:59

Any woman who is paid for sex is a prostituted woman.

BupcakesandCunting · 18/09/2012 12:59

""I used to live across the road from a prostitute, thanks. "

I live across the road from a vicar, that doesn't make me a theologian."

Hmm

Thanks for that witty little insight Saskia, however, rather than claiming to be an expert on prostitution, I was just letting EatsBrains know that I've grown up around these women and have not led a sheltered life.

So feel free to take your oar out.
