kinda sick of nursing colds everytime they go to any sort of group.

That's life get used to it

JarethTheGoblinKing · 14/09/2012 11:33

Yes, because they want to spend the next 6 months inside. Hmm

You'll get used to it :)

TeaBrick · 14/09/2012 11:34

Toddlers just tend to constant colds ime. Ds would never have gone out if he'd stayed in every time he had one. I don't think I'm particularly irresponsible though, but I can understand why you're annoyed.

WhatYouLookingAt · 14/09/2012 11:34

Get over yourself. Kids have snotty noses.

BupcakesandCunting · 14/09/2012 11:34

Your PFB will encounter people with colds everywhere they go, not just at toddler group.

Should everyone with a cold not go out in case they infect someone's child with the common cold?

gordyslovesheep · 14/09/2012 11:35

hahahaha oh dear - wait till your child starts school - or would you keep them off school for a bit of a snotty nose

YABU by the way!

very ur. Do not even go anywhere OP there are bugs everywhere!! Bet mum with said toddler is relieved to be out the house!!

MadStaringEyes · 14/09/2012 11:37

If I didn't take Ds2 out with a snotty nose, we would never have left the house. Colds aren't the end of the world.

bigsnugglebunny · 14/09/2012 11:37

I'm afraid YABU - children get lots of colds and can't stay inside all the time.

It does make me feel a bit vomity when I see children with crusty snot faces though... but that's my problem!

Myliferocks · 14/09/2012 11:37

One of my DC naturally had a snotty nose. There was nothing wrong with him. It was just the way he was.
Even our doctor described him as a snotty nosed child! Grin.

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 14/09/2012 11:38

I used to think this with my pfb.

However, as babies and toddlers have such a new immune system, they need to catch all the little, non harmful virus' and germs and colds etc to build up their immune system.

It's a part of growing up unfortunately.

I am not suggesting those with chicken pox etc should be at playgroups.

Snot, in itself, is a bug bear of mine. I hate it. But that's life!

Imnotaslimjim · 14/09/2012 11:38

YABU! If I kept DD off every time she had a snotty nose or a bit of a cough, she'd be off all winter! She never throws it off, they just blend from one to the next! Nothing wrong with a few germs anyway!

missymoomoomee · 14/09/2012 11:38

Good Lord if I kept my lot in every time they had a bit of a cold I think I would have been out of the house about twice in the last 11 years, one of them always has a runny nose.

TheDogDidIt · 14/09/2012 11:40

What about in a nursery, then? Childcare, while the parents go to work? It's no different just because toddler group is optional - it's the same cold, the same age group, and children in a nursery are just as precious as children at a toddler group. Can you imagine how rarely you'd be able to go to work, if you had to go into purdah with your toddler every time they got a runny nose?

fluffywhitekittens · 14/09/2012 11:42

And some parents run the playgroup so there would be no one to run it if they had to keep their dc at home every time they had a sniffle.

threeOrangesocksmorgan · 14/09/2012 11:42

yabu if everyone did that the world would come to a stop

scentednappyhag · 14/09/2012 11:44

YABU.
Keeping a child off for a cold? PFB.
The plague/smallpox/tummy bug? Sensible.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 14/09/2012 11:45

YABU and ridiculous and precious!!

footflapper · 14/09/2012 11:49

yabu to say it's irresponsible! I understand why it annoys you though, it annoys me when EVERY time I take ds to a group he gets ill! He had a nasty hand, foot and mouth infection last year, certainly picked it up from a group..
There have been times when I've avoided going to groups, especially when we've got plans to go away for a few days.
Unfortunately though, you just cant avoid germs, it'll be worse when they're at schooll :(

ThisIsYourSong · 14/09/2012 11:50

YABU, my twins had loads of colds / viral infections when they were little and we never went anywhere near toddler groups.

Youshouldbedancing · 14/09/2012 11:54

Yanbu to not want your dc to catch a cold
But yabu to think parents should keep their DCs home
When ds was 2 he had about 6 months where he seemed to have cold after cold, luckily I was a SAHM but had I been working it would've been a bit ridiculous to take 6months off work so I could stay home with him
Colds are a bit shit but they don't last forever and they help build up DCs immune system

BlendingIntoTheBackground · 14/09/2012 11:56

YABU! At least they are building up their immunity so that its a lot stronger for when they start school. Imagine how much worse it would be if they'd never been exposed to any bugs/germ, a bit like the Native Americans they would be overwhelmed... So they are doing you a favour!

I would never have got out the house for the last 12 months if I'd extracted myself from society for a mere sniffle or crusty nose!

Also

ornellaia · 14/09/2012 11:56

They're doing you a favour - it'll build up your PFB's immune system.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 14/09/2012 12:06

YABU. Some children are permenantly snotty. Are they supposed to put off social development until they go to school? What if they get a cold then?

Its a cold. Not the plague. It doesn't require nursing. Get over it, or keep your own children away.
