can't they keep their dc's at home till they don't have snotty noses and infecting the other children there.

kinda sick of nursing colds everytime they go to any sort of group.

Got the message yet OP? Wink Grin

MrsBucketxx · 14/09/2012 12:08

its just bloody annoying,

i would never knowingly infect another child never. it that names mine pfb then so be it. if a child is sick and full of cold there not really going to enjoy what they are doing or learn much anyway.
i understand its different for parents who work they have no choice when they need the child care but, the mothers/ fathers or carers at toddler groups have a choice to be there or not.

MrsBucketxx · 14/09/2012 12:09

no not really jareth

OP posts:
imnotmymum · 14/09/2012 12:10

There is no case that a child with a cold would "infect" any of the children there anyway.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 14/09/2012 12:10

Don't ever go to soft play, will you? :)

MrsBucketxx · 14/09/2012 12:13

how do they can catch a cold then? from the children that don't have colds Hmm

OP posts:
Megatron · 14/09/2012 12:13

So how exactly do you propose to build up your child's immune system OP? are you honestly saying that when your child goes to school you will keep then off every time they have a cold? I don't mean high temp and being unwell but a cold?

Icelollycraving · 14/09/2012 12:14

I felt like that until ds started nursery. I'm v grateful he can go with a snotty nose if need be,he's missed enough days with all the other bugs!

PosieParker · 14/09/2012 12:14

Completely agree with the idea of self parents spreading their children's germs and illness. I think about the young babies and siblings before thrusting an ill child onto the path of others.

TheDogDidIt · 14/09/2012 12:15

From being anywhere out in public, via surfaces that other people have touched. From people of any ages that they meet who are developing colds but may not be showing symptoms yet.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 14/09/2012 12:15

Do you ever put your child in the seat of a trolley? Riddled with snot germs they are! How about a highchair in a cafe, or library books or toys or I don't know... coming into adults who've got a cold?

This thread is making me lol though

OP - But I'm not!

Saltire · 14/09/2012 12:16

It's the ones whos send their child to nursery/school/childmidner with D&V bugs that annoy me

TheQueenOfDiamonds · 14/09/2012 12:17

Common cold - YABU. As for the question about where they catch them from, most minor illness' are contagious before symptoms appear. We are parents, not psychics.

More serious illness' like measles, impetigo etc then no you would not be unreasonable to expect medical advice to be followed and that is to keep them in as soon as you notice symptoms.

My ex left me 3 weeks ago and I was deeply ashamed that he buggered off to where his niece and pregnant SIL would be, knowing our son had measles and that he could potentially be carrying it.

Even more disgusted that his SIL and Brother clearly didn't give a shit about their unborn child, as I told them before he got there.

WorraLiberty · 14/09/2012 12:18

Lol you should be grateful your child's immunity is being strengthened before school starts!

imnotmymum · 14/09/2012 12:18

I was making point that even if in same room as child with cold not necessarily going to catch it and developing time is often the most contagious anyway. Sorry OP but when at school trust me you will all be sick by week 3. We have already got a cold, one with sore throat... You cannot keep them off school each time have acold etc. so c'est la vie.

Tee2072 · 14/09/2012 12:18

People get colds from germs, which are everywhere.

Do you keep them out of supermarkets, parks, restaurants, the world?

That man standing down the aisle from you at the supermarket may have a cold.

Or the bus driver.

Or your postman.

Kids get colds.

Deal with it.

PosieParker · 14/09/2012 12:18

We can't prevent everything but the things we can prevent we should. simple.

missismac · 14/09/2012 12:19

YABU. Super-PFB. You'll get over it when (if) you have more than one.

TheDogDidIt · 14/09/2012 12:20

Yup - Week 2 of school term here and 3 in the family have had rotten chesty colds. One of my dds had to stay off school yesterday.

scentednappyhag · 14/09/2012 12:20

I'll never understand OPs who post in AIBU when they have no intention of accepting that they are Grin

spiderlight · 14/09/2012 12:20

Kids need exposure to germs to build up their immune systems. They're better off catching loads of colds as toddlers than being closeted away for the first four years and then catching them all as soon as they start school.

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 14/09/2012 12:20

No I'm all for these rules. Imagine how great it would be to ring in sick all winter cos you have a snot in your nose.

Shame I'm self employed and if I kept ds home every time he grew a snot I would be in financial fecking ruin.

TheCunningStunt · 14/09/2012 12:21

The current guidelines are to send them with a cold....YABU. But I reckon MN has already said thatGrin

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 14/09/2012 12:21

You can't prevent the common cold posie.

Good luck trying though.

TheDogDidIt · 14/09/2012 12:22

Talking about preventing all we can - but toddler group really is a drop in the ocean. I'm all for isolating children with nasty infections but we can't run scared of the common cold.
