If she could see 'no tits' Knightly playing Elizabeth Bennet?! And as for Matthew Mcfaddyan [sp] he just spends the entire film looking like he's had a bucket of water dumped over his head!

Lord, not another version of P&P!

BurlingtonBertieFromBow · 02/09/2012 00:28

Oh I like that version Blush Everything in it is so pretty

Everyone in the BBC miniseries just looks a bit lumpen

WorraLiberty · 02/09/2012 00:30

'no tits' Knightly

Really?

That's so nasty

Should she go and get foreign objects implanted in her body then?

Would that make any difference to her job? Confused

bea · 02/09/2012 00:31

I'm afraid i'm a fan of the BBC version... and know it sooo well... it's just wrong all those words coming out of keira knightleys mouth instead of the lovely Miss Ehle....

everything looks too dirty and rough in the knightley version!

MrsTerrysChocolateOrange · 02/09/2012 00:31

Oi! Kera Flip-Head Knightley with her enormous channeling-Julie-Roberts teeth might be annoying but Matthew is gorgeous and much better than that other one.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 02/09/2012 00:31

Pretty? It's dismal! And incredibly rustic looking! It makes me depressed!

I really don't remember Mr Darcy mentioning Elizabeth Bennett's impressive rack as the reason he fell in love with her.

However, I agree with you re that version of the film as 'Elizabeth Bennett' spent most of the film staring into a mirror at herself. Anything less Austen I have never seen.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 02/09/2012 00:34

No Worra, but a decent meal might not do her any harm!

Hmm, I prefer the BBC version, but tbh, I enjoyed the KK version too. I think I just like any version of P&P really.

But nothing will ever compare to Colin Firth as Mr Darcy.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 02/09/2012 00:36

Agree, a rack reference would have ruined the whole book! Grin
Anyway, the tits aren't the issue. It's just a dreadful interpretation full stop.

WorraLiberty · 02/09/2012 00:38

No Worra, but a decent meal might not do her any harm!

Oh dear fucking god...do you have access to what she eats on a daily basis then? Hmm

By all means criticise her acting ability because that's what she's paid for, but to slag off her body is just crass.

Do you look at Adele and assume she spends all day eating pies?

CJCregg · 02/09/2012 00:40

It is a totally bollocks version and have you seen the 'revised ending' they made for the US version? JA would spin right out of her grave and float above it for all to see ...

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 02/09/2012 00:40

No. That's my job!

I am just watching this and getting incredibly annoyed by Keira Knightley's wooden acting.

She is just abysmal. Her face is held in the same fixed expression for every emotion [lips parted, jaw jutting, eyes widened] depicting sadness, wistfulness, anger, disgust, disbelief...

I HATE her version of Elizabeth Bennett. I really cannot stand her in this [or any roles come to think of it]

Elizabeth Bennett as played by KK just comes across as self righteous, stroppy, arrogant, pretentious. She strips the character of any believability or empathy.

Quite like the rest of the film though Smile

BurlingtonBertieFromBow · 02/09/2012 00:40

Come on Keira Knightley is, to say the least, very pretty indeed.

joanofarchitrave · 02/09/2012 00:41

Revised ending??

what was that then?

[imagines Lady Catherine de Bourgh morphing into one of the Golden Girls with homespun wisdom and new beau taking her to the movies]

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 02/09/2012 00:41

There's a revised ending? Does mr Darcy go apeshit on crack and pull an uzi out at the Meriton ball, gunning everybody down and leaving Elizabeth for dead??? Hmm

OP posts:
joanofarchitrave · 02/09/2012 00:43

Oooh saggy, I'd watch that.

Could Mr Bingley rip off his top, tear a strip off it, bind it round his head like Rambo, swing Jane over his shoulders and run off into the distance with her?

CJCregg · 02/09/2012 00:43

Much worse. They snog. And it's romantic.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 02/09/2012 00:44

MM makes a fabulous Darcy, shall not hear a word against. Grin

Not keen on KK's Eliza though.

CJCregg · 02/09/2012 00:45

Here

LiquidCosh · 02/09/2012 00:45

I think the bbc version has spoiled it for any following versions i mean can it really be done any better than it was by the bbc? FWIW DP bought me the kiera Knightly version a few years ago on DVD and i boycotted it for a while but eventually watched it one night when i was bored and thought its not THAT bad!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 02/09/2012 00:47

Joan, it would be like the episode of Dynasty, when Fallon marries Prince Mochael of Moldavia. We'll have to wait for the sequel to find out who survived!! Grin
MM looks like Harry Enfields 'Tim nice but dim'!

OP posts:
GsyPotatoPieEyed · 02/09/2012 00:47

It's a while since I watched the KK version, but don't the men all have really bad hair in it.

BBC version for me everytime.

CJCregg · 02/09/2012 00:47

Keira Knightley is very pretty and should stick to modelling, imho. I liked her in Bend it like Beckham but not in anything else she's done since. As someone's already said, she's wooden and has a limited range of expressions.

She almost ruined P&P for me forever. Thankfully I had drawn a veil over that version until this thread resurrected it, cheers Grin
