If she could see 'no tits' Knightly playing Elizabeth Bennet?! And as for Matthew Mcfaddyan [sp] he just spends the entire film looking like he's had a bucket of water dumped over his head!

Oh I don't know, kate Winslet has done very well and she is not exactly what you would call thin.

ErikNorseman · 03/09/2012 13:30

Keira knightley's figure is fine, she is very slim up top but has a bottom and more shapely legs. I don't dislike her but she's not lizzie Bennett to me. She admits she plumps up her top lip and I think she looked much better when she didn't.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 03/09/2012 13:30

Actually, iirc( and I'm actually a bit Blush at my 'no tits' comment, although I do stand by my comment about extreme thinness being fashionable, and there being far fewer 'fat' actresses,) I saw a programme about the film and KK where they said that they did use enhancements, such as clever makeup shading, to make her chest look bigger.
This thread is actually about the film, the Mis casting, and the general un P&P of it. As a gentlemans daughter, EB would neve have left the house without a bonnet, and would have worn gloves to the balls. Her dresses constantly looked like the dog had slept on them, and there was a pig in the house!

Has anyone seen the Kate Beckinsale version of Emma?

I LOVE North and South. I can watch it over and over again, it's magnificent in every way Smile

Two KK film that I loved were Atonement and Never Let Me Go. I couldn't help feel while watching, though, how much richer they'd be if a different actress was playing the KK role.

squoosh · 03/09/2012 13:36

Kate Winslet used to be bigger than the average actress, never ever fat though, these days she's pretty slim.

CJCregg · 03/09/2012 13:39

Yy, Clueless Grin

squoosh · 03/09/2012 13:39

The Kate Beckinsale version of Emma was on tv yesterday, I watched it for 5 mins, just because the difference in that KB compared to today's KB is noticeable. She used to be an Enlgish rose now she's ultra Hollywood, boob job, veneers, hair extensions etc. and makes vampire slaying fantasy films.

WillNeverGetALicence · 03/09/2012 13:43

That's it exactly Boer.

KK is adequate, or barely adequate, in most things she does imo.

The movies themselves are okay or good, but that's is spite of her, not because of her.

There are so many good British actresses. Why the feck is KK the go to actress for every part going?

She must be very amiable and likeable IRL as someone up thread suggested.

Easy to work with and causes no problems for the director.

It sure isn't because of her great acting ability.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 03/09/2012 13:44

No, Kate Winslet was never fat, but she was more rounded looking. I watched Titanic again recently and I can't imagine a mainstream actress looking so full figured nowadays (mind full figured meaning a good size 10 with boobs so not plump really at all).

Mind you it doesn't really matter what her figure is like, she has such a beautiful face anyway, and can act very well.

I always think KK comes across a lot better in contemporary roles. I just don;t think she can c ope with the weight of a period role tbh.

Saggy I do see your point about the extreme rusticness of the film - even though I like the styling, I am sure that their house wouldn't have been that shabby in the reception areas, and I was a bit Hmm at Lizzie gadding across to Netherfield with her hair down her shoulders.

But I really liked the village hop with the slightly shabby looking dancing and clapping, and I thought the ball at Netherfield was really well done. KK looked utterly wonderful in those scenes imo.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/09/2012 13:44

Kate Beckinsale is a fabulous looking woman though, and I admire her for wearing dresses that show the stretch marks on her boobs and not covering them up.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 03/09/2012 13:46

Oooh, I LURVE Paul Rudd! And have done for years before he was truly famous.

OP posts:
GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 03/09/2012 13:50

I fancied Paul Rudd first (from Clueless fame).

Do you know what, I don't think I have ever recovered from not being cool enough to get away with those tartan skirt suits that Cher wore in that film <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1366&bih=653&tbm=isch&tbnid=lxkkPa-xpo27GM:&imgrefurl=thehindsightletters.com/2011/03/02/new-hindsight-idols-cher-horowitz/&imgurl=thehindsightletters.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/10018_slide2.jpg&w=370&h=455&ei=YqdEUOzUJsqJ0AXsvYHQAQ&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=844&sig=102107407687793110004&page=2&tbnh=160&tbnw=127&start=21&ndsp=25&ved=1t:429,r:21,s:21,i:222&tx=76&ty=62" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">fabulous

I'll win, I'm a roughly Tufty outdoors type! [menacing scowl]

I am 6 foot tall and a black belt in jujitsu (some of this may not be strictly true).

I was thrilled when he turned up in Friends. He is such a good actor.

CJCregg · 03/09/2012 14:57

I am small, gamine and elegant. So I may not win the fight, but I will win the man [smug].

(Some of the above is also not strictly true.)

TheCraicDealer · 03/09/2012 15:38

I got these for work specifically because they make me feel like Cher Horowitz. Unfortunately Marksies doesn't sell Paul Rudd....Sad

squoosh · 03/09/2012 15:41

Those shoes are soooooo Cher!

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 03/09/2012 15:41

They are so Cher, you will look like a total Betty.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 03/09/2012 15:41

I am going to start a thread about Clueless and Cher.

squoosh · 03/09/2012 15:41

I don't fancy Paul Rudd. He has a smug face.

TheCraicDealer · 03/09/2012 16:07

A Betty, or a Monet?

GotOrf, please link to new thread :D

LeeCoakley · 03/09/2012 16:23

Getting back to P&P.... I didn't watch it all on Sunday but do Mr and Mrs Hurst not appear at all in that version? Caroline needs someone to be bitchy with. MM and Donald Sutherland were trying to hard in the sneering department to be realistic. KK is NOT Lizzie. End of.
BBC P&P - the definitive version. Music was superb and Lizzie's eyes matched the book IMO.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 03/09/2012 16:24

Yes Mr & Mrs Hurst were cut out, I don't know why (as you say Miss Bingley needed someone else to bitch with).
