Boris wants your children for the gulags.

He wants to punish teach them skills of rock-breaking and oakum picking!

Bring your children to build the great nation!

Even if they have studied hard at school, achieved their expensive degree, and volunteer ten times a day, they must not expect payment until they get experience are working get paid.

At the press conference, Boris, with one arm oddly twisted behind his back, confirmed that it was a tough job market, and employers were crying out for prisoners free labour something for nothing work experience.

So they can show willing by taking part in work experience then sparrowp so you do agree with this after all.

NovackNGood · 29/08/2012 16:31

Parents are meant to have to provide for their children carenotsaint .It's what responsible parenting is all about. Have only enough children they can provide for not expecting the state to pay for them.

Sparrowp · 29/08/2012 16:33

cakeandcustard "If there's an honest days work to be done then the workers should get paid an honest days wage, to do anything else is exploitation."

Completely agree. How are young people supposed to make their way in life with this nonsense?

OP posts:
Sparrowp · 29/08/2012 16:34

"Parents advised to only have children if they can fund them until the children retire."

OP posts:
JumpingThroughMoreHoops · 29/08/2012 16:35

sigh

I'd have Boris' children any day

NurseRatched · 29/08/2012 16:36

If the Opposition had any brains they would be out canvassing the votes of the under 25's NOW. The OP is being unreasonable only by virtue of being polite about the Conservative swearword of choice

NovackNGood · 29/08/2012 16:39

So an honest days wage will be what the market defines that to be per industry and per region then and not the mandated government one sizes for all markets minimum wage policy that takes no consideration of how cheap some area are to live in or the level of skill required.

NarkedRaspberry · 29/08/2012 16:40

Do we have an opposition? They're ineffective and, most of the time, nigh on invisible.

nancy75 · 29/08/2012 16:41

Carernotasaint, yes obviously it's down to their parents, you were the one that brought up the question of why donk kids celebs do it, it was a really well though out point Hmm

NurseRatched · 29/08/2012 16:44

@NarkedRaspberry> the Opposition have about as much dynamism as a soggy flannel. It ought to be obvious to them that the under 25s are a potential goldmine of votes. Unfortunately I can see that generation choosing to get the hell out of the UK altogether.

'Whinging'
'Money for nothing'
'Gravy train'

It's Daily Mail Bingo time!

Sallyingforth · 29/08/2012 16:54

Well I guess it beats National Service!

Be very careful throwing about ideas like that. There are a few MPs who might see it as an answer to both unemployment and youth crime.

Hmm. Come to think of it ....

Sparrowp · 29/08/2012 16:55

Young people these days, they don't even know what computers are!

No, wait..

OP posts:
sunflowersfollowthesun · 29/08/2012 16:56

I think it is very dangerous for young people to get the idea that there is such a thing as free money. They need to know that there's no such thing as a free lunch and someone is paying, with their taxes, for the benefits they receive which they have made no contribution to.
I can see the point that it's possible that minimum wage earners may lose hours because it's likely to be minimum wage jobs that the young people are asked to do, but ultimately we owe it to these young people to teach them a work ethic, how to get up in the morning, that people are depending on you to turn up etc.
Boris can have my kids, willingly.

Sparrowp · 29/08/2012 16:59

Ah yes, it hides the unemployment figures.

Even if we still have to pay them all unemployment support, and companies just stack their extra profits in the bahamas.

We'll become a country of low wages and miserable impoverished people. Welcome to third world Britain?

I really thought Boris was better than this. He's showing his nasty-party side.

OP posts:
carernotasaint · 29/08/2012 17:00

@tiggytape im assuming you were getting a wage not benefits.
@ sunflowers it is probably your children who will be choosing your nursing home.
And i think its dangerous for young people to be getting the idea that work doesnt pay.

Sparrowp · 29/08/2012 17:07

Carer - "I think its dangerous for young people to be getting the idea that work doesnt pay."

Quite! How else are they going to get a pair of trainers, if they can't get them by working hard and saving up?

This is not teaching a work ethic, it is not teaching them that work is worthwhile and rewarding.

I would prefer to reward those that work hard with a proper salary, and maintain good work incentives and motivation.

OP posts:
Sparrowp · 29/08/2012 17:09

It is also building up social problems because it teaches them that adults, employers and those in authority just want to exploit them and they will get nothing for their efforts.

OP posts:
NovackNGood · 29/08/2012 17:10

Sweden is third world so if the UK was more like them then many would be happy.

carernotasaint · 29/08/2012 17:11

It is also building up social problems because it teaches them that adults, employers and those in authority just want to exploit them and they will get nothing for their efforts.

THIS!

But they are being paid carer they may be receiving benefits for an indefinite period yet only being asked to do work experience for a very short period of time. Somebody is working their arse off to provide this, they need to know that, and ultimately return the favour.
Not sure I understand your point about my children choosing my nursing home, are you suggesting they will want to punish me for wanting teaching them ethics?

carernotasaint · 29/08/2012 17:22

Its ethics to work without recieving a wage? Blimey now ive heard everything.

carernotasaint · 29/08/2012 17:24

Of course they are are receiving benefits for an indefinate period. Who is going to take them on and pay them when they can get free labour from these schemes.
