Mrsjay · 24/08/2012 19:42

I would do sinister things to reece shearsmith Grin

Elsqueak · 24/08/2012 19:43

Have any body gat a battle of orange joooooooce? Oh and Mickey-luv and Pauline...brilliant characters. I guess it's an acquired taste?

FalseStartered · 24/08/2012 19:44

DH is a musician and we often finish one of his stories about it with 'it's a shit business' Grin

slowestwildebeast · 24/08/2012 19:46

Pauline and her pens. The jobcentre sketches in series one are pretty close to the way they run in reality.
When they first came out and were on tv I did not understand them.
Then I started dating a man who lived in the sticks who had the first series on dvd - I'd never laughed so much in my life.
The 'special meat' was exactly like people round there asking for beef that was banned due to the bse scares.

I'll never forget the episode in the jobcentre where pauline is confronted by Ben. :)

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 24/08/2012 19:52

False I'm weeping, 'Creme Brûlée' "it's a shit business". Grin

ObviouslyOblivious · 24/08/2012 19:55

In this house forum we like the League of Gentlemen :o

slowestwildebeast · 24/08/2012 20:01

"oh Mickey! What does egregious mean!?"

Empusa · 24/08/2012 20:04

I adore League of Gentlemen! And Psychoville! Has anyone watched the DVD of the stage show? I nearly died laughing at the Herr Lip sketch!

MrsMcNulty · 24/08/2012 20:04

I hate it as well OP, and find it seriously unfunny, YANBU.

Empusa · 24/08/2012 20:06

"You lied to me! There is a Swansea!"

Mandy2003 · 24/08/2012 20:06

I moved from central London to live in a small village about 10 years ago. I got a job in the "Local Shop for Local People" and kept quoting lines from Tubbs. No-one else knew the show. At all. I particularly liked telling people off for touching the precious things of the shop!

BagofHolly · 24/08/2012 20:08

I've got nipples like bullets.

(Babs)

It's filmed in Padfield which is actually v nice.

SchrodingersMew · 24/08/2012 20:09

Mandy I would love to do that!

League of Gentlemen is utter genius. :) I started watching it when my Uncle babysat when I was far too young to be allowed to watch it and have and will always love it. :o

Empusa · 24/08/2012 20:09

Where I used to work I used to have to phone up for supplies, and the woman who dealt with that was called Barbara and sounded exactly like Babs from LoG!

maillotjaune · 24/08/2012 20:14

Yes sinister and the funniest tv programme ever.

Saw it live too, less sinister though.

TheFogsGettingThicker · 24/08/2012 20:14

I find it creepy too, but still watch it.

There's so many quotes you can use, we like to pop them into conversations where appropriate.

Our favourite, "In the dark....with an owl....in a HOLE!"

slowestwildebeast · 24/08/2012 20:19

Oh god. Remembering a drunk 20yo me repeating "babs cabs" in gravelly voice to my uni friends when I moved away to uni. They didn't know what the hell I was on about.
"nipples like bullets" oh my.

electricalbanana · 24/08/2012 20:30

Hallo dave

echt · 24/08/2012 20:37

DH and I reference this endlessly to each other; bottle of orange juice, Dave, etc. We have to as no-one in our part of Australia seems to have seen it. DD grew up hearing us spout this nonsense and was amazed when she eventually saw the series that was all real.

The phrase "are you local?" comes up a lot here in Melbourne, particularly in chi-chi-farmers' markets selling wierdly-shaped purple carrots and odd hand-knitted garments. You only have to look at some the craft stuff they sell to make you wonder about the long winter evenings in rural Victoria. Gum nut art, that sort of stuff. How we titter.

Cloudbase · 24/08/2012 20:39

"I hope you enjoy your time in the lovely town of Royston Vasaay - Real Good Treat!"

I really want to be able write down the thing that Herr Lip used to do after saying 'real good treat', a sort of pinched shrug thing accompanied by a sort of 'humph' noise...

It used to make me cry laughing. Steve Pemberton is a Genius.

Empusa · 24/08/2012 20:39

DH and I are always asking for I can I can't. That'll confuse DS when he's older. Grin

Notgrownupinmyhead · 24/08/2012 20:41

Its filmed in Hadfield in Glossop. DH does the best Papa Lazarou impression ive ever heard.

I read somewhere that they based him on their old landlord and I absolutely love LoG.

Voodoo Laydeeeeee Wink

freddiefrog · 24/08/2012 20:41

YANBU!

That and The Office - I used to sit there thinking 'is it just me?'

gordyslovesheep · 24/08/2012 20:44

It's genius - I like comedy that make you feel uncomfy and squirm a bit - OP try Jam if you want a true squirm fest

muffinino82 · 24/08/2012 20:45

YANBU to find it sinister - that's precisely the point Grin

YABVU not to find it funny Angry
