In Brighton yesterday, lots of flesh and tattoos on display. Aibu to think they can be artful but never make person look more classy sadly?

I intend to have seams coming out of the top of my wellies.

McKayz · 20/08/2012 21:06

I really want seams!!! How cool!!

I am busy thinking about my new tattoo. I don't give a rats behind if I look classy or not. I love tattoos and if people don't like them then that is up to them.

Back of the knees must be really sensitive though for getting a tattoo.

Perhaps they could leave a gap and I could just draw that bit in.

On a serious note, I am too chicken to get a tattoo as I don't like pain and I do worry about the permanence. However, I have seen some beautiful artwork on some tattoos that I admire as much as I would any other art.

I get very judgey about non-tattooed people. They look far too classy. Why would you do that to yourself? Grin

CleoSmackYa · 20/08/2012 21:20

This is something I stole from Wikipedia (so it's 100% true)

'Indeed, the island of Great Britain takes its name from tattooing, with Britons translating as 'people of the designs' and the Picts, who originally inhabited the northern part of Britain, which literally means 'the painted people'.[1] British people remain the most tattooed in Europe.'

back of knee's is almost worse than inner elbow!

LucieMay · 21/08/2012 00:16

I have seams and bows on the back of my legs. Sometimes I like standing out by having tattoos, I'm at the alternative/mosher/metalhead end of the spectrum rather than the chav end. It brings out the inner teenage rebel in me when in fact I am a very normal 32 year old mother who works for the state! Very conformist! I also enjoy changing my hair colour to very bright colours. I mainly get positive reactions but it does amuse me people who don't know me could view me as some wild immoral deviant when I live a very sedate and respectable life!

mercury7 · 21/08/2012 00:28

would anyone actually describe themselves as a chav? Wink

LucieMay · 21/08/2012 01:03

Nope but then no one would call themselves a freak/weirdo/grebo and other delightful terms I got called as a gothic youngster by those we called townies then or chavs now. You're talking about two completely opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of dress/music taste and sub culture but both are often tattooed and pierced, as are many middle of the road folk. It's much jess relevant to me now that I'd older and not immersedin the whole culture as much and dress much more sedately.

I've got the lyrics "We leave tonight or live and die this way" tattooed on my wrist.

They're in memory of my best friend, who I'd known since we were babies, who killed herself when we were 17. She wrote those lyrics in her suicide note and they sum her up. She was too big for our tiny village and everything that went with it.

Having them on me always makes me feel like I've always got her with me.

The level of class I now have really didn't come into the decision process.

SchrodingersMew · 22/08/2012 11:35

Chaos That is a sad but lovely story of your tattoo. :( It didn't feel right you haven't had a reply to it.
