In Brighton yesterday, lots of flesh and tattoos on display. Aibu to think they can be artful but never make person look more classy sadly?

billy - I don't know her, I only know she got it done as she's a friend of a friend on facebook! I would love to think so, though!.

But my point was, who's to say what's 'classy' and what's not?!

WaitingForMe · 19/08/2012 15:14

I regularly illustrate my classiness via my tattoo. It's near my crotch and I don't show it to people. That's classy right? Grin

Empusa · 19/08/2012 15:21

I'm half tempted by tattooed seams, think they can look fabulous, but I'm not 100% sure they are me.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 19/08/2012 15:24

Dead classy, waiting, except for the part where you announced it to an entire internet forum of strangers. Grin

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 19/08/2012 15:26

I think tattoed seams are a fabulous idea... >>> wanders off to ponder some more...>>>

Lol at the idea I got my tattoos to look more classy! Admittedly I didn't get them to look less classy either.

I love them, well mine, I can be a bit judgey about other peoples but that's my prerogative.

I love tattooed men. Dh is covered, although you wouldn't know it when he goes off to his very 'classy' job in the city.

BulldogDrummond · 19/08/2012 15:47

I put tattoos in the same bracket as body piercings. Absolutely plebeian! At least those involved can get rid of their body piercings. Tattoos are like dogs - for life.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 19/08/2012 15:51

Memo to bulldog: the Roman Empire fell nearly two millenia ago, I think we can give 'plebian' a break.

rainbowinthesky · 19/08/2012 15:56

Dh and I both intend to get tattoos at some point in our lives. Certainly not to be classy!! [lol] Who on earth wants to be classy anyway?

Schrodingershamster · 19/08/2012 16:03

I would love tattooed seems !

Schrodingershamster · 19/08/2012 16:03

Seams even !

KurriKurri · 19/08/2012 16:07

I think classy is a state of mind, some people have it other's don't - I would define a classy person as one who doesn't hold any ridiculous prejudices.

My DIL has a lot of tattoos - she is beautiful and classy - her tats neither add nor take away from that.

gazzalw · 19/08/2012 16:10

Totally agree with the anti-tat brigade myself. They are never classy even if you are Sam Cam. Just about maybe if they are small and hidden from public view....

I think they have been normalised by the 20/30 somethings but for the 40 somethings and above they will generally be derided.

It just looks so wrong particularly on women of a certain age. One of the 'young' grandmothers at school has large tats on her breasts which are clearly visible when she wears low cut tops in the summer - answer me how that can ever be considered classy/feminine or right?

GobblersKnob · 19/08/2012 16:19

Actual lol at 'right', too funny.

I have two large tattoos, I am currently planning to have one/both made larger, I am pushing 40. I couldn't care less what anyone thinks of how I choose to adorn my body, nor do I care what anyone else does with theirs. It is the only thing you ever truly own and yours to do with as you wish.

SPsFanjoSponsorsTheOlympics · 19/08/2012 16:26

YABU

OP, try not to feel too sad about the tattoo'ed folk, I expect that most of them couldnt give a rats arse what you, or anyone else, thinks about them Wink

Krumbum · 19/08/2012 16:30

Why does it matter if someone look 'classy'?
Although people who discuss looking classy often wear too much gold.
And Females generally see feminine because they got women's bodies an all that, duh

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 19/08/2012 16:35

"how that can ever be considered classy/feminine or right?"
by whom? what on earth are you on about? LEt's face it, disliking/forming assumptions about the "class," femininity, mental ability, income bracket, or indeed anything else at all about someone with a tattoo is prejudice based on the colour(s) of their skin. Nothing more and nothing less.

mercury7 · 19/08/2012 16:36

classy, feminine, even 'too much gold' are not objectively determined categories, they are cultural constructs, and matters of personal taste and opinion.

catgirl2012 · 19/08/2012 16:37

I have tattoos

I have never needed to "look more classy"

You either are or you are not.

Regardless.

rainbowinthesky · 19/08/2012 16:38

"feminine" gawd I hate that word. Makes me want to vomit in a very unfeminine manner.
