In Brighton yesterday, lots of flesh and tattoos on display. Aibu to think they can be artful but never make person look more classy sadly?

Never ceases to amaze me how people can have such strong opinions about a picture on someone's skin.

I have tattoos. Never occurred to me when I got them that some random person might form an idea about my character based on them.

People base too much emphasis on how a person looks. Class (among other things) comes from within.

ListenCuntoMe · 20/08/2012 00:31

They're never classy, I have two two robot toes & a huge squid on my thigh.

I like 'em

ListenCuntoMe · 20/08/2012 00:34

& what Moongirl said

threesocksmorgan · 20/08/2012 00:35

FanjoPingpong it is cos we have some brilliant Tattoo places like Tattoo by gunpoint

ListenCuntoMe · 20/08/2012 00:38

& I'm about to go for a total robot foot.

TapirBackRider · 20/08/2012 01:06

If some random loon person wants to judge me on the tattoo/s I may have, then it says more about them than me.

However it gives me a handy guide as to the people to avoid!

badgeroncaffeine · 20/08/2012 02:31

I judge people on tattoos...they tell me more than anything else about them visually. In a negative sense of course.

Empusa · 20/08/2012 10:13

ListenCuntoMe Have you got photos? Those sound amazing!

mercury7 · 20/08/2012 11:14

the presence of tattoo's tells you nothing, except that the person has tattoo's,

You can of course make a whole host of assumptions based on your beliefs and preconceptions about people who have tattoo's

KenLeeeeeee · 20/08/2012 11:31

Wearing jeans, have both tattoos and body piercings. Am clearly buggered in terms of bring feminine or classy.

MrsChemist · 20/08/2012 11:59

If you use tattoos as a pointer for judging if people are worth getting to know, do you feel tricked into a friendship if you find that one's friends have hidden tattoos?

TapirBackRider · 20/08/2012 12:23

Exactly Mercury - Judging somebody by the tattoos on their skin is completely useless, it only says that they like tattoos.

Why judge somebody by the colours on their skin? Isn't it far better to judge on the merits of their character - or is there an automatic assumption that tattoos = unsavory or untrustworthy person?

mercury7 · 20/08/2012 12:37

to be fair we all have a tendency to stereotype...form an opinion based on the most immediately apparent characteristics.
Also to filter our perceptions in ways which confirm existing beliefs..aka 'confirmation bias'

It takes alot more mental effort to keep an open mind and not jump to conclusions about people

FanjoPingpong · 20/08/2012 17:36

threesocksmorgan Ooo, thanks for the recommendation. I know that Jack at Nine Tattoo is good, but he has a long waiting list. I'm looking for somewhere to get my next one. :)

Napdamnyou · 20/08/2012 20:09

I am very classy, so had a tattoo to declassify myself.
Now I look much more common. It is my gift to you all.

SoleSource · 20/08/2012 20:15

Lots of flesh. It is perfectly acceptable in the UK and ALWAYS will be.

mercury7 · 20/08/2012 20:17

lol @ 'declassify' :o

JoyceDivision · 20/08/2012 20:24

I have shorts tattooed on my legs and a t shirt tattooed on my arms / body so I don't have to bother chosong clothe and getting dressed every day, but I don't have socks tattooed because i live in birkenstocks and flip flips, and socks and sandals is just wfrong, innit?

JoyceDivision · 20/08/2012 20:27

But I do have a tramp stamop from my late teens Grin

Would love some more but dh absolutely hates them, and while he isn't dictating that I 'ca't' or 'shouldn't' have them, I'm aware of how upset he would be and that I would willingly be doing something taht he really doesn't find atttractive.

But I do love the idea of very realistic magpies with joy and sorrow, just ever so slightly gothed up either at the back of my thighs or my shoulder blades at the back Grin

Maat · 20/08/2012 20:28

JoyceDivision - I was just thinking of getting a pair of shoes tattooed on. I can't get any comfy shoes anywhere and that might be the answer.

Chattymummyhere · 20/08/2012 20:33

I never got my tattoos to be "classy" I got them because I wanted too... I have one running the length of my back, one of each foot and one on my pubic bone.. I dont have them to impress people.. If you was to judge me for having tattoo's I would be glad your not my friend

JoyceDivision · 20/08/2012 20:33

But would you have sandals or wellies?

Maat · 20/08/2012 20:37

Wellies I think. They will hide my varicose veins.

SchrodingersMew · 20/08/2012 20:43

I am pretty much covered in tattoos, I have a couple of piercings as well.

I didn't get any of these to look more (or less) "classy" and to be quite honest I have had more than a couple of extremely rude comments about them and I always politely tell them that it's my body to do as I wish and should they not like it then they could always stop staring.

Pointing out what you would consider to be an inperfection in a person is not classy in the slightest. I hold my head up through all the grief I get for it and I would rather not look "classy" and be the person who does that than be on the other side and judge everyone else for how I think they should look.

I also wear (long) dresses btw, I spend hours on my hair and how I look and I treat other people with respect. Not exactly a scruffy chav as many people make out everyone with tattoos to be.

JoyceDivision · 20/08/2012 20:53

You could get 70 denier tights tattooed on to cover them if that helps? Grin
