to shave in the shower at the gym

So in the gym showers earlier and when I was scrubbing up I realised that I had a razor in my washbag (it's the same bag I take on holiday) and as I was a little fluffy in the underarm region I thought I might do a bit of sprucing... Then I got all wierded out by the idea and didn't do it. Wibu to shave in a communal shower, albeit in seperated cubicles or is it icky and unsociable to do so?

Mumsnet - the choice is yours!

Btw - stealth boast that I went to the gym!!!

I wouldn't. The thought of other people doing it makes me feel a bit icky, but I may be being a bit uptight. Body hair does give me slightly irrational heebie-jeebies! Grin

TantrumsAndOlympicGoldBalloons · 14/08/2012 14:40

No. Just no.

GoldWithADragonTattoo · 14/08/2012 14:42

I don't see the problem as long as you make sure the shower is rinsed properly afterwards.

Kayano · 14/08/2012 14:43

Hmm so many mingers in the world. First oral on your period (boak) and now shaving in the communal showers.

Thank god you didn't do it!

MaisyMooCow · 14/08/2012 14:43

As long as the shower area is rinsed then why not.

No different to finding stray pubes in there is it.

doublechocchip · 14/08/2012 14:44

If its stubbly I do legs up to knees and under arms, if the hairs are longer I just do it at home. Bikini area is a big no in a communal shower area!

MaisyMooCow · 14/08/2012 14:45

I'd be more concerned about what's floating in the pool or the jacuzzi.

Nevercan · 14/08/2012 14:45

I do but don't tell anyone Grin

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 14/08/2012 14:46

It would be very VERY wrong and I'm glad you didn't.

In fact, I'm sick to death of women who have their annual shower/shave after a gym class in the lunch HOUR. Yesterday I waited a good 15 minutes, wrapped in a sweaty towel, for one of the 6 showers to be free. Some of them go in with huge wash bags, so I know I'm in for a loooooong wait. Grrrr. Angry

porcamiseria · 14/08/2012 14:46

meh, I would . it gets washed away

oral on period however, eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew

Alameda · 14/08/2012 14:48

I do sometimes. What is horrible about it? Everyone's skin cells and sweatiness is sluiced off and down the drain anyway, what difference do a few stubbly leg/underarm hairs make?

Also is not like it is swilling around anyone's feet, it goes down the drain running along the back of our showers. This thread makes me want to do a WEE in the shower now.

MadeleineAlright · 14/08/2012 14:48

ew

NoComet · 14/08/2012 15:50

Shaving is banned in both our local pools, but I suspect our local migrant farm workers may be tempted to use the showered at the pool. I suspect some of their accommodating is a bit basic.

TroublesomeEx · 14/08/2012 16:03

I'm with Kayano!

Kayano · 14/08/2012 16:05

hi fives for spelling my name right

woooo

StealthPolarBear · 14/08/2012 16:08

Separate cubicles, don't see why not tbh.
We used to have mixed sex communal showers at university, if I never shaved my legs in the shower they'd never get shaved.

VanessaChin28 · 14/08/2012 16:09

Ew, the idea of someone shaving in the communal shower gives me the creeps.

The gym my brother co-owns (definately not a stealth boast although I realise it sounds like it) has banned shaving in the showers. The men's changing rooms have designated shaving sinks Hmm

ShatnersBassoon · 14/08/2012 16:14

It wouldn't bother me. Dead skin, hair and soap are washed down the plug every time someone washes in a shower, and shaving just adds a little bit more of each of those. It's not like weeing in the shower.

TastesLikePanda · 14/08/2012 16:15

Yeah... It just felt wrong to do it, even though I washing sweaty skin etc...!

I did once find a used tampon in one of the cubicles which made me boak

I couldn't even bring myself to report it to one of the gymbods because none of the ladies were working that day! Which was really daft I know...

StealthPolarBear · 14/08/2012 16:18

i really don't get why people think this is wrong. Would you not shave in a friend's shower, or demand they didn't shave for a week before you arrived?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 14/08/2012 16:19

Tis banned in my local pool/gym too...

WineGoggles · 14/08/2012 16:27

It wouldn't bother me at all if I used a gym/swimming pool shower after someone had shaved in it provided they rinsed the stubble away and left it clean. Same with if they peed in there. I would draw the line at finding turds or used sanitary products though Confused

ekupeg · 14/08/2012 16:31

No way would I shave at the gym!

GetOrfMoiUsain · 14/08/2012 16:33

I wouldn't shave at the gym - I am with kayano and the mingers comment.

MarysBeard · 14/08/2012 16:35

I think it's ok, but wouldn't be impressed to find a load of little hairs in the cubicle. I do pee in there though, can't help it, even if I've just been to the loo!
