to shave in the shower at the gym

So in the gym showers earlier and when I was scrubbing up I realised that I had a razor in my washbag (it's the same bag I take on holiday) and as I was a little fluffy in the underarm region I thought I might do a bit of sprucing... Then I got all wierded out by the idea and didn't do it. Wibu to shave in a communal shower, albeit in seperated cubicles or is it icky and unsociable to do so?

Mumsnet - the choice is yours!

Btw - stealth boast that I went to the gym!!!

yuck really marysbeard?

I tried for ages to do a wee in the sea recently but it wouldn't come out, am too inhibited. Did sit on the beach plucking my bikini line (and was not the only one) though Grin

Spuddybean · 14/08/2012 16:39

I'm really glad this thread has started. I was wondering this exact same thing.

I haven't yet, but i thought the other day 'oh why don't i take my razor etc' then thought - is that odd.

So is it wrong even if you are in a female changing room with individual showers with proper locks on and a plug in each cubicle etc? If so why?

Spuddybean · 14/08/2012 16:42

oh yes marys i always wee in there too and in my bath :)

It's actually very good for my eczema.

Alameda · 14/08/2012 16:42

of course it isn't wrong

so much more hair comes off my head in the shower anyway and it looks worse because it actually clogs the drain, but how can you shower without washing your hair?

VanessaChin28 · 14/08/2012 16:42

I just think shaving is a hugely private thing to do. Of course so is showering but, for me, shaving is like another level of private.

So I think of shaving as a bit like having a wee. Everyone does it, it doesn't cause any harm but I wouldn't do it in a communal shower just to keep my whole sense of public/private thing.

RunnerHasbeen · 14/08/2012 16:44

I think when there is a row of showers there is usually only one or two drains per side so the hair would be running into the next cubicle to be washed away. I think it is inappropriate to make personal mess like that if someone else is cleaning up after you and it isn't the right time or place for shaving. I would stick it in a category with popping spots or tweaking face hair at the hair-drying mirrors, some people will but it is not very nice for everyone else.

geegee888 · 14/08/2012 16:44

Ugh - please don't. There is a minger who does this in the gym I use, and who leaves her discarded razor, or parts of it behind, along with little hairs as memento of her act. Those who think it is all flushed away down the drains - it isn't. Apart from the fact its likely to block the drains, seems that people who don't care enough to shave in their own homes are not the type to care enough to make sure it all disappears after them.

lisaro · 14/08/2012 16:44

Also with Kayano - minging!

Alameda · 14/08/2012 16:47

but vigorously drying your minge in the changing rooms, with one foot up on the bench and the other on the ground must be worse than someone privately running a razor up their legs in the shower

and people even POO in the loos, grunting and plopping noises and intimate smells etc

it's just not a place for the squeamish or overly private person?

StealthPolarBear · 14/08/2012 16:49

But these were ndividual cubicles

MarysBeard · 14/08/2012 16:52

I don't see how my wee is more dirty than the sweaty soap running off me. It's probably cleaner being mostly water - I do drink a lot of water, esp in the gym!

Someone I know at work recently cancelled her gym membership and moved to another gym. The old gym phoned her to entice her back and she loudly announced "Not until you ban people who shave their legs and underarms in the hot tub."

There were several other cancelled memberships following that conversation.

spoonsspoonsspoons · 14/08/2012 16:53

There are specific notices to say it's not allowed at most of the pools/gyms I've ever been to. I presume they have a reason for this.

MarysBeard · 14/08/2012 16:55

I was also referring to cubicles.

I also often have poo in public toilets, though no grunting is involved... :)

Alameda · 14/08/2012 16:55

I abuse berocca too much to risk weeing in the showers, a stream of fluorescence running along the back of the other cubicles might look a bit too radioactive for a leisure centre?

StealthPolarBear · 14/08/2012 17:07

urgh at shaving in the hot tub

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 14/08/2012 17:13

You are supposed to shave in the showers at my gym, but I do anyway if I want to. It's not like I ever have more than a days worth of regrowth to get rid of anyway, and it gets rinsed away.

I will also use body scrub in the shower at the gym if I want to as well. My shower at one never lasts long enough to do full hair wash, (i have long thick curly hair can only brush it properly when its wet and conditioned) and shave and scrub. I'm not paying £60 a month for a gym if I can't have a proper shower in the shower.

MarysBeard · 14/08/2012 18:52

I am going to the gym shortly this evening and shaved this morning, you'll be pleased to hear :)

I have had a lot of water today though... Blush

TeaBrick · 14/08/2012 18:55

My gym has a notice up which bans shaving in the sauna and steam room, but nothing is said about the shower. I would do it.

walnutwhip · 14/08/2012 19:01

I have witness blowdrying of fanjo in the changing room and a woman hoicking up her large boobs to blow dry the skin underneath in my gym. So I will happily shave my pits in the privacy of the shower cubicle!

NumericalMum · 14/08/2012 19:02

Why wouldn't you? What do you do if you go to the gym every morning? I can't go to work with bushes under my arms? Confused
How is WEEING AND POOING in the showers ok but shaving isn't?

donnie · 14/08/2012 19:07

it isn't as bad - and can never be as bad - as the occasion I witnessed a huge and rather unattractive woman (sorry but it just makes it worse somehow) at my local swinmming pool, who, having had her swim, then proceeded to attack her crusty feet with a huge foot grater thingie and it spewed out fountains of dried skin and foot rind. This was in the COMMUNAL CHANGING AREA!!!! the foot scabs went all over the fucking place,I kid you not.

donnie · 14/08/2012 19:08

eh? pooing in the showers?

StealthPolarBear · 14/08/2012 19:08

Yes and in my communal student showers - hoe would I ever have shaved my legs?
