There are loads of similar names to Ben that are very popular eg. Finn, so it would appear you are alone on this.

pigletmania · 12/08/2012 11:15

Well some people might not like your name unusual though it is. There are worse names like Mackenzie, bailey, Parker, nope actually Ben is a fairly solid and normal name

derekthehamster · 12/08/2012 11:15

Oh dear, I have a Toby and if I was to have another boy, he would be called Ben. Nevermind Grin

Pandygirl · 12/08/2012 11:16

I really like Benjamin, and all the Bens I know are lovely.

What I do hate is people using a nickname on a birth certificate (it's Benjamin, Timothy, Daniel, etc not Ben, Tim and Dan).

LurkingAndLearningLovesCats · 12/08/2012 11:17

Piglet, now I'm depressed...I know people by all those names! Grin (and variations of spelling too)

TenaPenny · 12/08/2012 11:18

ah now TOby is very similar isnt it

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/08/2012 11:19

Yes, Ben Hur, what a drip

WorraLiberty · 12/08/2012 11:19

Haha just thought...

Nigel Benn = Double drippy Grin

peanutMD · 12/08/2012 11:22

:o algernina

How pretty!

the name boards can be a bit of a state sometimes but that is because I don't like classic old fashioned names.

I do remember someone mentioning Hessian and Lucien with nn of Luci because its quirky Hmm

NutmegKate · 12/08/2012 11:22

I like the name Ben but when DS1 was born every other little boy around was called Ben (and those that weren't Ben were called Daniel ) so I avoided it.

Really wet names in my opinion are things like Cecil, Cedric and the like. Funnily enough, I don't meet little boys with those names very often these days.

Boris is a lovely name. For a horse. I watched "White Horses" too often as a kid to think of Boris as a person's name.

noddyholder · 12/08/2012 11:23

Tobes is worse than Ben.

SoleSource · 12/08/2012 11:24

Algernina is made up.

Birdsgottafly · 12/08/2012 11:24

It's all about association, i know one sexy Irishman called Nigel, until then i would have agreed.

I know Ben's who are 'mad bastards' so i don't think of it a wet name.

Toby Stephens (Maggie Smiths son) is sexy.

Strong people end up owning their name.

Birdsgottafly · 12/08/2012 11:26

Algernina is made up.

All names were made up at one time, language is made up, at least the standard English language.

TenaPenny · 12/08/2012 11:28

yes but my mother named me after HER father obvs
Hence ALgernina

YABU

YY to Martin though!

Babyroobs · 12/08/2012 11:32

My son is Benjamim, we call him Ben. He's not drippy and hopefully won't grow up to be a drippy man ! This post doesn't offend me as choice of names is of course very personal and I say each to their own . However some could think it rather rude.

noddyholder · 12/08/2012 11:33

ben whishaw is v cool though

Xales · 12/08/2012 11:34

You have to see the irony of someone calling a name drippy when they have Tena as the first half of theirs...

cocolepew · 12/08/2012 11:34

Adrian is a drippy name, its like you cant be bothered to speak properly.
