I like Benjamin, but DH won't consider it for the bump.

I would have called him Benjy.

I have Ben as my future Dss name if we have one.

My DDs name also is a "meh" name....infact, change one letter and thats her name.

Lucky for me, I dont need validation from.other such as you OP as to whether I should call my dcs these names.

TenaPenny · 12/08/2012 10:47

bemjy oh NO WAY

OP posts:
peanutMD · 12/08/2012 10:53

It's not a name I would choose personally but it's not because it's 'drippy', simply because it is not a name that I like.

There is no reason to be arsey about a name tbh, and what exactly does 'drippy' mean?

The dog name rule is absurd because many people use people names for dogs nowadays.

We have had dogs named Dale, Max, Hollie, Sky, Cassie, Rudy, Beth and Toby in or family.

RubyVaultingGates · 12/08/2012 10:56

I have problems with "Timothy" as a grown-up name. It's cute on a small boy, but it doesn't seem to work as a man's name, But I blame the Beeb and "Sorry" for that.

Ben doesn't have the same resonance. (And I'd forgotten that DS1's middle name is Benjamin.. which means "son of the right hand")

Bizarre

BalloonSlayer · 12/08/2012 10:57

Ben is a lovely, solid, no-nonsense name.

Drippy is Tim. Also little-boy names as the entire name: Danny, Alfie.

Beyond drippy are: Diggory, Rafferty.

TenaPenny · 12/08/2012 10:58

real people dont call kids diggory do they?>

OP posts:
RustyBear · 12/08/2012 10:58

I suspect Ben Ainslie is pretty wet a lot of the time actually....

chihiro · 12/08/2012 10:59

Is this the time to mention that until last week I thought Ben Ainslie and Ben Fogle were the same person?

FWIW I quite like the name.

MrsKeithRichards · 12/08/2012 10:59

Ben Ainslie and wet? Well I could say something crude about the hunk that is Ben Ainslie but I won't

Tim and all variants of is seriously drippy. You're setting him up to be nice, but dim.

peanutMD · 12/08/2012 11:00

Slayer - Diggory, please tell me you made that word up?? :o

I shouldn't really content on names my ds' name is common as muck lol

TenaPenny · 12/08/2012 11:01

rusty - was going to make lewd comment then :)

TheSmallClanger · 12/08/2012 11:01

Noooooo, Ben is usually quite good-looking, and plays the guitar. Not wet at all, except after he's been surfing (he does that too).

Gideon is wet. Gideon's mum is the queen of the helicopters, and regularly appears in the local news media being outraged about something or other.

Nicholas, if he insists on his full name being used, has strong potential to be wet. And very spoilt.

TheSmallClanger · 12/08/2012 11:02

Gideon's dad exists, but he is also subject to fervent helicoptering, and has retreated to a shed, where he builds models and listens to radio 4.

MrsKeithRichards · 12/08/2012 11:04

Tenapenny have you never been on the names board? It goes something like this...

Op - I like Jack for a boy what do you think?

Poster - so common, how about Theodore?

Poster 2 - it's not even a real name

Poster 3 - hmmm not bad but how about

Rupert
Boris
Hugo

Etc...

Poster 4 - he'll never be a high court judge with a name like that.

TenaPenny · 12/08/2012 11:05

OH no KR - i have basically only 10 topics showing - am about to hide primary education to as i am SO OLD

Boljit has to be the worst name ever in my book. Ben is a manly name but also a dog's name.

LurkingAndLearningLovesCats · 12/08/2012 11:07

My evil ex was a Ben, so for vindictiveness Even though MJ's Ben was one of my favourite songs, now ruined I'm going to say yes.

pigletmania · 12/08/2012 11:09

Yabu and a bit thick yourself. My sons called Benjamin and its a good solid biblical name. What's your name op, Mabey we can analyse that Hmm

NCForNow · 12/08/2012 11:10

Martin's not drippy Olympia! I went out with one once, he was the manliest man in the world!

Scottish and kind of rough round the edges.

[sigh]
