AIBU to want to hang out on Mumsnet?

I'm a man.

This place reminds me of a great forum I hung out on for years before Facebook took everything over - it's witty, intelligent, kinda brutal but friendly and decent. Certainly nothing like the forums over at Men's Health or anywhere like that.

I'm not on the pull, always enjoyed the company of women, got 2 kids. Should I bog off and find a place with more Y chromosomes? Am I going to be like one of those creepy blokes at playgroups? I've already posted to ask for advice under a pseudonym and was touched by the support.

Biscuit
ElephantsCanRemember · 04/08/2012 08:40

Why the Biscuit Madge?

No YANBU. The only way you will be like a creepy bloke is if you are a creepy bloke. If you are then you will be sussed pretty quickly on MN.

Otherwise, yes it is witty, highly amusing and thought provoking. There are a fair few men on here, though sometimes you don't always realise.

YouBloodyWolf · 04/08/2012 08:41

Does that mean I'm about to get my head kicked in?

There are lots of us blokes on here

And we manage to fit in alright! You might want to steer clear of the FWR boards (scary) and grow a thick skin if you venture into aibu.

Just jump in and enjoy!

Not sure how you deduce that Madge?

FasterHigherBeardierDaddyman · 04/08/2012 08:46

madge you know the drill. No hunting. Report and then ftfo if you're concerned.

ElephantsCanRemember · 04/08/2012 08:47

grumpla Why is it the Ops fault that your DH gets irriatated at playgroup? My Dh took our DC to playgroup (still does), never had a problem because, I assume, you know, he is just a normal dad doing normal things.

Am I being really dense this morning? Am I missing something?

MrGeresHamster · 04/08/2012 08:48

YANBU... Come in, take a seat, pass round the gin.

stookiesackhouse · 04/08/2012 08:48

A harsh Grumpla?

Don't think the OP was being literal.

OP, bit of a mixed reception :)

Don't let it put you off just yet.

Tee2072 · 04/08/2012 08:49

There are quite a few men on MN.

The creepy men at playgroups thing is a bit suspect, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, as I think all playgroups are creepy in general. All that forced fun and interaction with other people. ::shudder::

stookiesackhouse · 04/08/2012 08:49

A bit harsh I meant :-\

Grumpla · 04/08/2012 08:50

OP wrote "Am I going to be like one of those creepy blokes at playgroups?"

E.g. Only bloke in MN / playgroup = creepy.

I am merely taking issue with that assumption. I think any good dad would.

ElephantsCanRemember · 04/08/2012 08:51

I read it that the OP has read MN, enjoyed it and now introduced himself albeit in a bit of a cackhanded way by saying "I'm not a perv".

Welcome Op Smile

ImperialBlether · 04/08/2012 08:51

Welcome, OP, but if you want to fit in, don't send private messages to women complaining about your sex life.

This isn't a reference to something you've done, of course, just something I have experience of.

But welcome anyway! Does your partner come on here?

MadgeHarvey · 04/08/2012 08:51

FTFO? Nice. Last time I checked differing opinions were allowed on MN?

Yama · 04/08/2012 08:51

I don't think you need to ask YouBloodyWolf. The other men don't.

Can't figure out if that makes you unreasonable or not. It's too early.

FasterHigherBeardierDaddyman · 04/08/2012 08:51

Right on tee

I can't stand playgroups, they're so cliquey! And people never look after their kids properly, they just let them run riot and call them "spirited". Wankers.

ElephantsCanRemember · 04/08/2012 08:52

tee I agree with you re playgroups, hence why DH takes them Grin

serotoninbutterfly · 04/08/2012 08:52

No not at all, there is no strip search to ascertain gender before you can join! In fact lots of men are on here and noone realises unless they mention it or have daddyman in their nickname have fun! Grin

MammaTJ · 04/08/2012 08:53

I agree with Tee, all that forced interaction is creepy in itself!!

Having said that, at the pre-school drop off, on some days I was the only Mummy. Those were the better days, less bitchy. So Welcome OP!!

FasterHigherBeardierDaddyman · 04/08/2012 08:53

Yes madge but troll hunting isn't. Go check the talk guidelines.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 04/08/2012 08:54

Think there may be a fair few hangovers this morning... Hmm

Welcome YouBloodyWolf, i'm not going to jump on you just because you have a penis.

FasterHigherBeardierDaddyman · 04/08/2012 08:54

Was I not being subtle enough butterfly? Wink
