AIBU to want to hang out on Mumsnet?

YouBloodyWolf · 04/08/2012 08:36

I'm a man.

This place reminds me of a great forum I hung out on for years before Facebook took everything over - it's witty, intelligent, kinda brutal but friendly and decent. Certainly nothing like the forums over at Men's Health or anywhere like that.

I'm not on the pull, always enjoyed the company of women, got 2 kids. Should I bog off and find a place with more Y chromosomes? Am I going to be like one of those creepy blokes at playgroups? I've already posted to ask for advice under a pseudonym and was touched by the support.

I have yet to try Parentdish or Bounty.

WigGold · 04/08/2012 09:21

Biscuit awards, arguments, troll hunting, deletions and a visit by HQ all on one thread in under an hour? Stick around YouBloodyWolf you seem like fun Grin

SparklingGoldMedals · 04/08/2012 09:21

Hello. Welcome. Grin

YouBloodyWolf · 04/08/2012 09:23

Thanks, Wig Grin I do have a talent for these things.

What does a biscuit denote? I thought it meant that the poster was getting a biscuit to eat while watching the fireworks.

what Wiggy said

Welcome to MN

SparklingGoldMedals · 04/08/2012 09:28

It means 'no comment/don't believe you.

OlympiaMumsnet · 04/08/2012 09:29

@FasterHigherBeardierDaddyman

madge you know the drill. No hunting. Report and then ftfo if you're concerned.
Hmm Daddyman, you know the drill too.
YouBloodyWolf · 04/08/2012 09:37

SGM - ah, gotcha. Thanks.

Ahhh, a true Mumsnet welcome Grin

If you survive this thread then stick around. It is everything you are getting on here. Warm welcoming posters and, some that might be a bit over tired Wink

ABF you made me snort!

SparklingGoldMedals · 04/08/2012 09:40

So what is your specialist subject YBW?

Mine on here is rubbish telly, cats, and general nonsense.

But I am permanently needing help and guidance with being the owner of a 13 year old. Grin

MrGeresHamster · 04/08/2012 09:40

What Wig said... you're gonna be fun!

JodieHarsh · 04/08/2012 09:44

Bha - ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaa! Classic MN 'welcome': part pitchforks, part gin.

Welcome Wolf. All human life lies here, as you have already seen Grin

YouBloodyWolf · 04/08/2012 09:48

SGM - um...dunno really. I work in an interesting geeky field but I can seldom be arsed with geek conversation these days. Love films and books, wannabe writer interested in Zen. Not a bad cook. I've got a 9 year old and a 6 year old who run us ragged, and I'm planning on a long session reading the parenting forums on here to try to figure out where we're going wrong.

Why do I feel like the honoured guest at a South Sea Islands barbeque?

OP posts:
YouOldSlag · 04/08/2012 09:50

Well I think it's great there are a few men on here as I often find it interesting to get a bloke's perspective on things in AIBU.

Obviously my DH is banned as this is very much my turf, but I don't think he knows how interesting this site can be, and I don't intend to tell him!

If you're a parent, male or female, you will find so much on here. (non parents welcome too, of course) Smile

SparklingGoldMedals · 04/08/2012 09:52

Because you announced your arrival YBW. You are now like the interestiing new boy at school. Grin

YouBloodyWolf · 04/08/2012 09:54

Thanks, YOS - I've spent hours lurking in the last few weeks. Haven't seen somewhere as fun and interesting in a long time

TheVermiciousKnid · 04/08/2012 09:56

kinda brutal but friendly and decent

That seems to sum up mumsnet very well. Grin

Welcome, and watch out for the wolefs. (Are they still around?)

YouBloodyWolf · 04/08/2012 09:57

SGM - the new boy who turns out to be less interesting than the originals :-)

How many regular posters would you say there are here? Do you get to know most of em or does it break up into circles?

OP posts:
YouBloodyWolf · 04/08/2012 10:01

Knid - wolefs? What were they from? "I know you - you're a wolef!"

OP posts:
MrGeresHamster · 04/08/2012 10:03

There are quite a few regulars here...

I haven't noticed groups per se (but some get accused), different topics attract different posters. There are posters on here who are fabulous at advice on different issues. You recognise names quite quickly dependent on how much time you spend waste on here.

TheVermiciousKnid · 04/08/2012 10:04

Um, I think it's best if one of the wolefs explains. I think wolef=wolf. They are a quiche. (Not a circle.)

YouBloodyWolf · 04/08/2012 10:07

Makes sense. I've noticed some posters giving out wonderful advice to people in need. It's good to see. I'm looking forward to wasting time here Smile Just wish the site was a bit more mobile-friendly.

OP posts:
ScrambledSmegs · 04/08/2012 10:22

There is a mobile version of the site, my phone defaults to it. Does yours? I also like the MN app, but it could do with a 'refresh page' button, and you can't have several threads open at once on it. I like the easy emoticons on the app as I'm lazy and have fat fingers.

HauntedLittleLunatic · 04/08/2012 10:23

There is a mobile site, should be a link at the top under the mumsnet logo, in a purple banner next to inbox and logout buttons (or at least that's where it is on the mobile version - which you presumably aren't on!)
