To think it's disgusting to wash up without rinsing?

Just that really!
I really can't understand how seemingly clean people lather their dirty dishes and just put them to dry without rinsing the foam off. All the germs and soap residue are left on the plates surely?

Yuk. Revolting!

I don't get the relevance of how boring the thread is to whether not rinsing is gross though... Can one's life be too exciting and action packed to rinse confused

WavingLeaves · 02/08/2012 01:09

:$ ?

Sorry no sq brackets on phone

Shullbit · 02/08/2012 01:14

I always rinse. And I hate it when I am at other peoples houses and get given cutlery/plate/glass which has rings on it where there was a bubble and other obvious signs it hasn't been rinsed. I have to make an excuse to go into the kitchen to do it myself if I notice residue on anything given to me. Just, yuk.

And even though I rinse, I always rinse again before using anything. But, I am one of those people who appear to be a bit lot OCD and look for anything that needs cleaning constantly. Even myself. If I get remotely warm I have to scrub myself for fear of dirty sweat. I am weird and my life is wasted

JUbilympiX · 02/08/2012 02:08

My grandmother didn't rinse, nor did she dry.
My mother didn't rinse, nor did she dry.
I don't rinse, nor do I dry.

I am dead of washing up residue, though. Do I win? Grin

Moln · 02/08/2012 02:40

where does it stop though, do yu change the water in the bucket once you have put the mop in etc?

i've nothing else to add as I've a disgusting and vile dishwasher

BlisdergamesbeginPack · 02/08/2012 03:02

YANBU at all.

Shullbit · 02/08/2012 03:55

From my POV, I don't change the water everytime I put the mop in, but I do change it at least once per room. It is mainly twice depending on the size of the room though. Once I am happy with in, like, the bathroom.

Erm, I don't rinse them, as it's a pointless exercise.

They've been washed, therefor washing the soap scum off with just water is rendered just useless, as you can't wash germs off with just water Confused

merrymouse · 02/08/2012 07:37

It's sad that decades of washing up liquid development technology has passed so many people by.

GhouliaYelps · 02/08/2012 07:50

Do you lather yourself up in the shower then step out?
Of course clean hot water rinses the dirt off!

NotaDisneyMum · 02/08/2012 07:52

Chemical residue left on plates from detergent can only be a concern for households who only consume certified organic, unprocessed food, surely?

For the rest of us, the chemical residue on plates is enhanced when the next meal is served on them, isn't it? Wink

2rebecca · 02/08/2012 08:19

Don't rinse, some people have too much time on their hands and not enough to worry about if this is worth a thread.

Tee2072 · 02/08/2012 08:27

Not rinse? Really? I've never heard of such a thing.

[American emoticon]

I only have one sink. I fill a washing bowl with hot soapy water, move it to the side of the sink, wipe each dish with a soapy sponge, stack in sink, run water, rinse, place on drainer.

How do they get clean if they aren't wiped and then rinsed?!?!

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 02/08/2012 08:33

I take it that those of you who rinse wouldn't use the same coffee mug all day yesterday, then rescue it from the festering pile of washing up this morning and give it a quick swill.....Grin

Surely life is too short to worry too much.

merrymouse · 02/08/2012 08:55

Small bowl of hot water, limited amount of washing up liquid. Ensure that food removed from plate before washing. Change water regularly. Any bubbles drip off as as swish clean plate out of water.

I am thinking that the following could be reasons for need to rinse.

  1. Not scraping enough food off pre-wash or not changing water regularly enough so washing in dirty water
  2. Using too much washing up liquid
  3. Not using washing up liquid and using hand soap instead, which I agree would leave a residue.
  4. Using some dodgy pretend washing up liquid product which is actually hand soap.
  5. Obsession with rinsing.

I can see that if you live in a country where it is difficult to keep refilling bowl with hot water, then it would be more efficient to have a pre-wash bowl, a washing bowl and a rinsing bowl.

However, the lack of public health announcements about rinsing when washing up (as opposed to huge amounts of advice about raw chicken and washing your hands) and the general fitness of non-rinsers suggests that it really comes down to personal preference.

Do rinsers shower after a bubble bath?

MeeWhoo · 02/08/2012 09:06

I haven't read the whole thread but YANBU

I think this is particular to the UK, when I was still living there I noticed they even put the foamy unrinsed plates on the rack on the Fairy Liquid advert!! I think here in Spain we may even have had the same advert but with that bit edited out as people would be genuinely baffled otherwise.

GhouliaYelps · 02/08/2012 09:12

Non- rinsers; why do you think there is a long rinse cycle in washing machines and dishwashers?
