telling me to have a good evening in the middle of our chat and then staring into my eyes almost defiant?

I know they're a bit unfriendly around here but I felt insulted. This has never happened to me before!

She said hello to me and I said hello back then chated about how the garden has overgrown and how long it was. I seak to her about twice per year and she lives bang next door to me.

Next time I shan't bother.

It has bothered me greatly for some reason.

So she said "have a good evening" - Shock how dare she be so rude Hmm

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 18/07/2012 19:36

Maybe she was in a major hurry to go somewhere and you were holding her up? The wee could have been running down her leg, or a pan on the stove or anything, and she just needed to get away from you in a hurry and couldn't think how.

KissMyEmbroideryHoop · 18/07/2012 19:39

Was it her garden you critiscised?

WasThisRude · 18/07/2012 19:40

No my garden, her lawn is short. I felt it odd and rude, abrupt.

SarahBumBarer · 18/07/2012 19:41

Eh?

FeakAndTheWeebleWorm · 18/07/2012 19:46

OP, I do not know of what the fuck you speak. Please be more explicit.

QOD · 18/07/2012 19:47

How was she standing? like a t-Rex? was she kind of trying to get away?
Does sound a bit rude to be fair. Did she then walk off?

OAM2009 · 18/07/2012 19:48

There's nowt as queer as folk?

Don't worry about it, people are unbeliveable sometimes.

My friend told me about how a mutual friend described the incident when she was incredibly rude to me. I then asked how she was about it - apologetic, embarrassed, etc? Nah, my friend said, she seemed unbothered.

Some people are just rude and ignorant.

(and I should know cos I can be Wink)

'defiant', what did you think she was being defiant about? It comes across as quite normal.

You do come across as a loon though.

No she didn't walk off, but she was rude. Odd person. i think I shall ignore her totally now. I only ever see her a few times per year anyway. I made an effort and that is what I got for my friendlyness. My fault.

Like a t rex! :-D

WasThisRude · 18/07/2012 19:56

Weird. Any chance she could be slightly deaf maybe, and didn't realise you were still talking?

ThePigOnTheWall · 18/07/2012 19:57

I am stumped by this. She's rude because she wished you a pleasant evening?!!!

Floggingmolly · 18/07/2012 20:04

She said Good Evening, and stared defiantly in the middle of the conversation when op was still talking. Keep up, folks!

That is a polite way of saying "shut the fuck up, I'm bored now". Of course she was rude. Impossible to say why, though.

HecateHarshPants · 18/07/2012 20:05

Have a good evening = bog off now please, I'm done talking to you Grin

It's code for "I want to end this conversation"

WasThisRude · 18/07/2012 20:08

Thank you for replying. I know I won't bother to chat again. I want to move out. They're all really unfriendly towards each other, there is a bad atmosphere. I've had it. Just a smile and a wave is all I ask for. I do not get involved with my neighbours even to chat, but now I have been reminded why. Cheeky cow she is!

OP posts:
ElephantsCanRemember · 18/07/2012 20:08

Bloody hell, is it really Hecate? My neighbours must think I'm a right old rude bitch then. I'm always saying have a nice evening/good weekend etc to them.

jazzchickens · 18/07/2012 20:08

"shut the fuck up" would definitely have been rude - stare or no stare
