To be getting increasingly irritated by tattoos?

I apologise in advance if I offend anyone with tattoos....Don't get me wrong, I am not anti-tattoo and I believe anyone who wants one should go right ahead but on the other hand there seems to have recently been a HUGE increase in the (imo) rather tackier end of the tattoo styles: kids' names and/or dates, side-of-the-wrist patterns (a la Cheryl Cole), three 3 black stars on the back of the neck,etc,etc...

I saw a woman the other day in fairly good area of a city with - I kid you not - one child's name and what I presume to be their respective dates of birth on her boobs - one name/date per boob right above the bra cup level!
On holiday recently the pool/beach/sunlounger areas were awash with names/dates of birth, etc on display everywhere and literally every 2nd or 3rd parent in the playground is sporting one and/or one of the aforementioned examples above and I cant help but feel they are becoming common and/or tacky ...(trying to avoid using the chav word)

Eveyone knows that house prices fall by 1% for every tatooed person within a 5 mile radius! Wink

pinkyredrose · 25/08/2017 15:43

neutrogena what a load of crap!

SchoolShoes · 25/08/2017 15:45

Teeth: tattoo ratio,

Neutrogena you are a card!

Neutrogena · 25/08/2017 16:50

@Pinkyredrose

You think high tine areas have a higher proportion of a tattoos than a low tone area?
Really?

That's not my experience of Cowes, Henley, Badminton and other high tone places, but IS my experience in the Wembley Asda, Wigan, and any bingo hall you care to mention.

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/08/2017 19:03

What a fucking snob!

Neutrogena · 25/08/2017 19:12

I didn't say that tattooed people were scuzzy. That was someone else. I was saying that higher class areas have fewer tatoos than lower class areas, which is true. They also have other characteristics.

So you would rather people had meaningless tattoos all on their body but if it's the date of something that means the world it's tacky and annoys you?? I've got the date of my engagement, my DD birthday and my dogs name so guess I'd irritate you then

Girty999 · 25/08/2017 19:27

Some are vile some are beautiful all will look fab in the nursing home when these people are old, all saggy writing behind old man hairy ears x

Gorgosparta · 25/08/2017 19:31

You're highly unlikely to see young doctors, lawyers etc with full sleeve tattoos.

This is bollocks. Loads of professionals have tattoos

And?

Really if you are old and in nursing home, i can imagine you dont give 2 shits that your tattoo isnt looking its best. Most peoplr would just be happy they did what they wanted to their own body, rather than worrying about what others think.

I was a licensed conveyancer. I had many visible tattoos

I'm director of my own company now. I have even more tattoos

Gorgosparta · 25/08/2017 19:36

there are FEWER tattoos on display in rich suburbs than in council estates, FEWER tattoos on display at the Henley Regatta than at Millwall Foootball Club, FEWER at Waitrose than Asda, etc etc

This isnt true either. I live in a 'well to do area'.

At a recent street party my dh was the only one without tattoos. All the adults are professionals.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 25/08/2017 19:37

I have my kids names tattooed on my back it wasn't just a mid life crisis but also represents that some days I can't remember my kids names as being as I can't see my tattoo to remind myself I am forgiven

Anatidae · 25/08/2017 19:48

he veered off and went into iceland

That has really made me chuckle.

Some look amazing. Most are average, a significant proportion look awful. Every now and again you see something really beautiful.

I think tattooing is so mainstream these days that there's no longer any real stigma though - it's not exactly boundary pushing to have multiple tattoos is it? Everyone's got them. Ditto piercings.

There's a bloke in Edinburgh with a full fried breakfast tattooed on his head. That probably isn't the best thing to have.

Each to their own. I don't have any, I don't care what anyone else does. I judge sometimes (I was in a queue behind someone last month who had a nazi symbol on their neck, so judgey pants were hoiked.) but mainly, your skin, your business.

I'd say that's very much the exception.
Tattoos are the preserve of the lower working classes. particularly for women.
Put it this way, I doubt Kate Middleton will be getting tattooed anytime soon.

Its funny because i work in a corportae environment. I cant think of one director or senior level that doesnt have tattoos. One of the directors I report to has tons. I would say the view that lower classes are the ones with tattoos is outdated.

Gorgosparta · 25/08/2017 19:58

And kate middleton isnt really the the average middle class person.

TwatteryFlowers · 25/08/2017 20:08

I bet Kate has a big butterfly at the base of her back with the words "Kate 💘 Wills" and then the date of her wedding and the d.o.b of both her kids in a list below it. She's probably got a couple of hidden piercings too. WinkGrin

I've nine tattoos, all of which were carefully thought about, are meaningful and done by a good artist; some of mine have been in tattoo magazines. I love my "tramp stamp" which is watercolour-style Scottish wild flowers across my lower back.

As for class, I know that a well-known Edinburgh advocate has a tattoo based on one of mine in a magazine and done by the same artist, who has inked several of his colleagues. In addition, one artist told me while doing my arm about ten or more years ago that a mate of his nearer St Andrews had inked a rather well-known and important young person - who was following in his great-great-grandfather's footsteps in this. How true that is I haven't a clue but certainly royals and presidents in history have been tattooed.

Anatidae · 25/08/2017 20:38

Queen mum had them didn't she? And lots of the Edwardian era royals?

TooManyPaws · 25/08/2017 20:40

Dunno about the Queen Mum but her father-in-law did.

krummymummy · 25/08/2017 20:42

I don't have any but they don't bother me. Each to their own

MelsMam · 25/08/2017 20:47

YANBU. A beautiful design that has done by a proper tattoo artist and is not slap bam on someone's tit or neck, looks ok. Tats all over and with dates of birth - yuk.

I'll never get a tattoo but I'm fine with people doing what they like with their bodies, just don't flash yer tats on tits.
