to think that Bourneville tastes horrible?

Never had it before, and thought I'd try it out as I rather like dark chocolate.

But it is the most horrible tasting chocolate I've ever tasted. So sugary, it is even more sugary than Cadbury's milk chocolate (which I love), tastes nothing like chocolate, never mind dark chocolate. And I paid 80p for the bar at the corner shop. I'm craving chocolate as it is that time of the month, so I was desperate for a choc hit, but eewwww.

My chocoholic DS, didn't ask for a second piece either, and he would eat a whole bar of chocolate if i let him.

So AIBU??

and I've tasted Hersheys and Galaxy too, which aren't that palatable, but at least edible compared to Bourneville. How can they call this chocolate?

It's nauseating. I prefer the dark chocolate from Lidl :)

prettysunset · 06/07/2012 21:16

Hate drk choc, love Bourneville !

Squeegle · 06/07/2012 21:21

YABVU, it is my favourite. I savour it square by square.

PrincessOfChina · 06/07/2012 21:25

It's Bournville.

#JustSaying :)

WorraLiberty · 06/07/2012 21:26

YABU

Then again I hate all dark chocolate

RuleBritannia · 06/07/2012 21:29

It used to be delightful chocolate ............. then Cadbury's was taken over by an American firm a fgew years ago and I bet they changed the recipe to a rubbish American make-you-fat one.

NiniLegsInTheAir · 06/07/2012 21:43

Agree with RuleBritannia, Bournville used to be lovely until Kraft took over Cadbury.

YABU about Hershey's though, that stuff tastes like hell in cheap powdery not-even-chocolate form.

choceyes · 06/07/2012 21:52

I do admit I've never had the pure Hersheys cos, in a far form. I've had the peanut butter cups and they are delish!

Worra so do you think I am AIBU to think Bournville (thanks for the spelling correction!) is horrible and you don't even like all dark chocolate? Makes no sense.

I didn't know that Bournville were taken over, makes sense now.

YADNBU - it's vile. Then again I hate/ won't eat any dark chocolate (unless it's the only chocolate in the house, lol )

Beamur · 06/07/2012 21:55

I think it's awful too. Not even nice enough to cook with.

thenightsky · 06/07/2012 22:01

clicked on thread to recommend Lidls... but someone already did Grin

choceyes · 06/07/2012 22:10

worra sorry just realised what you meant. Bournville is NOT dark chocolate, even though it says it is!

Will try the Lidl one, thanks for the rec.

Aldi have lovely dark chocolate too. Agree Bournville isn't what it used to be :(

deste · 06/07/2012 22:20

Aldi and Lidl both do lovely dark chocolate, even nicer than Green and Blacks.

thenightsky · 06/07/2012 22:23

the Aldi one is only 30p now

exoticfruits · 06/07/2012 22:27

The Bourneville one isn't as I remembered it and I agree it is foul. Lidl is lovely and cheap.

Laracroft2707 · 06/07/2012 23:02

You need 70% min dark chocolate. Bourneville is well below that and full of sugar. Tesco 72% Ivory coast is THE best by far.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 06/07/2012 23:08

It is revolting.

I also think Thornton's chocolate tastes vile. When you lift the lid of the box - what is that horrible smell?

SoleSource · 06/07/2012 23:25

I live in Bournville :)

SoleSource · 06/07/2012 23:26

*Bourneville Blush

Tigerbomb · 06/07/2012 23:28

Another vote for Lidl dark chocolate.

Bournville tastes so wrong now, in fact I have gone right off all Cadbury chocolate

Thornton's chocolate is also pish. Diplomats and Alpini's used to be my favourite and now they just taste like lard

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 06/07/2012 23:29

YANBU tis vile.

trixymalixy · 06/07/2012 23:30

YANBU, I love dark chocolate, and bournville is vile.

Thorntons chocolate, I dont get. It is absolutely gipping, I can't eat it, with the exception of their mints. Ditto Hershey's with the exception of the peanut cups. A friend brought us some Hershey's kisses as a present. I assumed they had gone off as they stank and tasted vile, but that was how they taste!

Tigerbomb · 07/07/2012 00:13

Hershey's kisses smell like baby sick
