to think that staying in the UK is NOT a holiday

I'm sick of people patronising me. Next week I'm going to Peppa Pig World (and a car museum and assorted rubbishy British crappy places) for my daughters 2nd birthday and my 30th. Friends who have returned from hot countries have said things like, "Oh you must be really looking forward to it" and "Your jollies are soon!" (jollies = holidays).

FFS! Peppa Pig World is NOT a holiday!! What's worse is that my husband really believes that this is a fucking holiday. My idea of a holiday is:

Different culture.
Different country.
Nice weather is a bonus.

Whereas we'll be pushing a pram around in the rain for a week. I see it more as a 'trip' and no it's not semantics. And yes I'm PMSing.

It's time off work and doing something different, something that many don't get.

It's your expectations that are the problem.

peeriebear · 06/07/2012 20:46

In that case, I've only had two holidays in my life. YABU

pointythings · 06/07/2012 20:46

This is where we really need a Chocolate emoticon. There isn't one, so have this Wine instead.

YABU though. Peppa Pig World sounds like my idea of hell, but I love going to Devon and Yorkshire and other great parts of the UK. We are not going away at all this year as we are having our kitchen and bathroom replaced, but we're looking forward to seeing a lot of the things on our doorstep that we have just not bothered with.

WorraLiberty · 06/07/2012 20:46

YABU

There are some beautiful places to holiday in the UK

However, Peppa Pig World is not one of them so YANBU on that part.

floweryblue · 06/07/2012 20:46

I've just had a holiday, two weeks at home with my nose in a book and my body in PJs. It's been lovely (although I was rather hoping that some of my time could be on a lounger in the garden).

BigBoPeep · 06/07/2012 20:47

YABU - 'staycations' = valid holiday...it's all I get! (partly through choice)

pinkyp · 06/07/2012 20:47

Yabu have some galaxy Wink

AnnoyingOrange · 06/07/2012 20:47

I love uk holidays

Thankfully never been to peppa pig world though

ladywithnomanors · 06/07/2012 20:48

yabu. Anything different from the norm is a holiday imo.

JosephineCD · 06/07/2012 20:48

A holiday is a holiday. YABU.

You sound a misery guts and you ARE having a holiday. Many people, including myself can't afford a holiday of any type ths year.
You feel entitled to a holiday abroad but can't have one. Poor you.

EndangeredOtter · 06/07/2012 20:49

YABU.

Hassled · 06/07/2012 20:49

I'm with you, OP. My idea of a holiday is to leave the UK and go somewhere different and preferably hot and just, well, not the UK. I live in the UK - why would I want to holiday there?
And yes, I know I'm bloody lucky that I have the option to holiday somewhere else.

Meglet · 06/07/2012 20:49

yabu.

Fair point that trudging around Hampshire isn't very 'holiday-ish' though. But I've lived in the county all my life so it doesn't seem that exciting.

We always go to Cornwall and I think that counts as a holiday.

usualsuspect · 06/07/2012 20:49

Just be thankful you never went to ourgate.

HarrietSchulenberg · 06/07/2012 20:49

Surely a "holiday" means a break from the norm (work or whatever). So location doesn't really come into it.
OK so Peppa Pig World would be my idea of hell, but it's not something that you do everyday, so technically it's a holiday.
Depressing thought.

WorraLiberty · 06/07/2012 20:49

And what's the point in going to Peppa Pig World for a child's 2nd birthday?

Seriously, she won't remember it.

I'd wait until her 3rd at least.

PorkyandBess · 06/07/2012 20:50

I agree. Peppa Pig World is not a holiday, it is a punishment.

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 06/07/2012 20:50

You should work for the UK tourist board, you'd be dead good Grin

You could stand at well known landmarks, yelling

"FUCK OFF, nothing to see here if you English"

And slap people who look like they might be enjoying themselves.

TheProvincialLady · 06/07/2012 20:50

There are other places in this country to visit than fecking Peppa Pig world though, 2 year old or no 2 year old. You can't really blame other people for thinking you are doing the sort of sane, rational things that people do on their holidays rather than going on some sort of preschool cash cow hell tour.

Sinkingfeeling · 06/07/2012 20:50

I love holidays in the UK, much less stressful than travelling for hours with young dc. Peppa Pig World, on the other hand, is my idea of hell. Grin

stainesmassif · 06/07/2012 20:50

We love pp world. Just be prepared for your dd to ask to go back EVERY day for the next two years.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 06/07/2012 20:50

I love holidaying in the UK. We havent been able to afford to go to Cornwall this year as we usually do and I feel bereft. I've done other countries/other cultures and right now, the UK is exactly the sort of holiday I want.

Vagaceratops · 06/07/2012 20:50

I love UK holidays.

Why pay £3000 to sit by a pool for a week, in the HEAT!!
