to think our neighbour is spying on me through a wall?

We live in a semi but a semi that backs onto another house, so our entire back wall is another house's entire back wall IYSWIM. So upstairs we share a wall on our bedroom, the landing and our bathroom.

The only noise I ever hear from their house is that noise of a pull switch light cord. And the only time I ever hear it is just after I go to the bathroom at night before I go to bed. Whatever the time. I never hear it before or after. Without fail it is just after I leave the bathroom. I go to bed at very random times (DH works away...). it could be 8pm, it could be 1am. Whatever time it is, I always hear that cord go within 20 seconds of me leaving the bathroom...

Uuummmmmm AIBU to think I might be being spied on..??!!! How do I find out for sure?!!

I'm with teh dead fan argument as well. And it doesn't happen again afterwards as they have a timed cut-off point and it's not reached that stage when you test it again. But I love other people being scared.

Nerd we don't know if there is anything - even a nosy neighbour.

IF there is, there may well be a camera too!

garlicbutt · 02/07/2012 00:03

Or if a babysitter was brutally slain there whilst watching teen movies with her boyfriend? Lol. I was just thinking how this is about to escalate into the next release of Scary Movie!

fedup2012 · 02/07/2012 00:04

It could be a motion sensor on an automatic camera Oh jeepers creepers!

Did you hear about the man that hid in someone's loft for months? Lived there? It might have been Japan, but still...

Empusa · 02/07/2012 00:05

"IF there is, there may well be a camera too!"

What on earth is going on today? People are seeing sinister motives in pretty much everything

TheSpokenNerd · 02/07/2012 00:05

It'll turn into an urban myth...."there was this woman right, who used to spend hours on Mumsnet...then one night she told the forum about how she used to hear a light being clicked next door whenever she used the bathroom...that night all the other Mumsnetters began to hear it too...."

TheSpokenNerd · 02/07/2012 00:06

Not that I am suggesting you spend hours on MN gnocci! I mean...I do...but thats just me! Grin

takingiteasy · 02/07/2012 00:08

Nerd that's the sort of thing that was in my mind when I read your post. Maybe I've spent to long on snopes!

garlicbutt · 02/07/2012 00:09

Here's a BRILLIANT idea (not)!

Drill a teeny hole through the bathroom wall, then spy on THEM after you've switched your light off! Ace idea, huh?!

Even better if the neighbour's also on mumsnet Wink

HeadfirstForHalos · 02/07/2012 00:10

Northern, I do agree it's unlikely to have cameras hidden, but it's not impossible like ghosts etc are

wannabedomesticgoddess · 02/07/2012 03:12

Truely freaked out...

Probably a simple explanation, but there are some freaky people out there.

lazyhazydaisy · 02/07/2012 06:59

I don't think it would be too difficult to get it checked out, would it?
There is probably an innocent explanation but I knew some girls at college for the first time and there landlord had hooked up a secret camera in their bathroom. The police were called and found the camera. I can't remember what aroused their suspicions. The landlord was prosecuted and the girls were, understandably, very, very upset. They were first years.

But probably an innocent explanation.

(The neighbours, if innocent, wouldn't know that you had called the police so I don't know what there would be to lose).

RedHelenB · 02/07/2012 07:09

Is there a hole in your bathroom wall? If not then how can they be spying? If there is - cover it up!!

MrsHoarder · 02/07/2012 07:17

Its definitely not your boiler? Mine clicks off 30 secs or so after the hot rater is turned off

cinnamonnut · 02/07/2012 07:26

oh GOD Shock shouldn't have read this thread, spooky

Magneto · 02/07/2012 07:45

In our old house the light pull cord was stiff, so it was possible to turn the light off without hearing the "click" and if you were busy etc you wouldn't notice until the light either "clicked" on it's own or turned itself back on. Could it be something like that?

Also agree about the boiler turning itself off, although ours sounds like a "clunk".

Other than that I think there is someone living in your wall sorry OP Grin
