I'm glad it's a help Iawn (geography degree at Aberystwyth not entirely spent drinking cheap beer forgotten). I felt a bit guilty too about being excited immediately after you posting about being worried.

If it's of any help too, I worked recently inside some National Grid electricity substations, where they are understandably twitchy about the lightening risk. They got their info from the Met Office, as the TV weather forcasts do, and it was always considered very reliable, so I'd happily trust them if they say it'll pass by this evening (if that's your local forecast).

Hope you manage to conquer your phobia, too me a while to get over my 'I'm going to fall through the planks on the pier' fear but got there and am totally fine now.

mango, it was so when I posted. It lasted about another 5 minutes after my last post. The sun looked in for all of 3 minutes before buggering off again. It's now just grey but bright.

We do get some interesting microclimatology around here though. Church Stretton often has totally different weather from places just a couple of miles away as it's tucked into the side of the Long Mynd.

Here we're at the southern bottom bit of Wenlock Edge and that can affect what we get as well.

Just had to pick DS2 up from his flooded school.

I'm about 40 minutes north of Aberystwyth. It still looks dark but the bbc have removed the bolt of lightning from the cloud in the forecast, and I am calmer thanks to chocolate

Crazy, crazy thunder in Leicester that has rumbled on, without stopping, for about 15 mintues. It is the loudest thunder I've ever heard. Followed by the sky going dark and the most rain and hail I've ever seen in one go. My house is starting to flood through the back door.

Apparently there was a flash of lightning then water started pouring in.

Those poor teachers, trying to sort it all out and get everyone ticked off, and who was going home with who. I did pick up a friend of DS's whose Mum works, save her having to get time off.

The storm is stil in Leicester, a couple of miles south of the city centre and its like nothing I have ever seen before.
