is yellow just a losing colour? (Sports Day related)

Bear with me, when I was in school I was in Yellow house - we never, EVER won anything! I have 4 children who have gone through several different schools and they have all been in Yellow house and again, they have never, EVER won Sports Day or anything else that I know of. Nearly every year it is Red (with the occassional blue year thrown in) that comes away with the trophy. Does anyone else find the same thing? and if so why do you think it is?

And while I'm on Sports Day, why do some parents take it SO seriously. We even have some parents who TRAIN for the parents race - is it just me, or is this really quite sad? (and is there anyone prepared to admit to doing this??)

In order of sporty-ness:

Red
Blue
Green
Yellow

Just the way it is, the way it has always been Grin

tyler80 · 26/06/2012 16:33

Yellow was always the 'sporty' house in my school so yabu to think yellow is a losing colour

maxmillie · 26/06/2012 16:34

in my dc school - yes. Yellow has lost at every one since my dc been there (eldest in Y2)

TheSurgeonsMate · 26/06/2012 16:34

As far as I'm aware this extends to professional sport too, red is just more winny.

Ithinkitsjustme · 26/06/2012 16:35

Woohoo, so it's NOT just me, might have to change my name Grin

In the primary school Yellow won every year. Not only that they won everything every year. Headmaster was a prick though.

FoxyToughOtter · 26/06/2012 16:37

We don't have red at our school.

The Greens always won everything sporty. But recently the yellows have started winning and today's swimming gala was won by the yellows, followed by blue followed by green.

Sad DD is green.

PandaWatch · 26/06/2012 16:40

I was in a yellow house and it always switched between blue and yellow to be on top, red and green alternated third and fourth. In the year I was house captain yellow won out! Grin

EcoLady · 26/06/2012 16:41

My DD is in Yellow. DS is in Green.

Sports Day postponed owing to waterlogged school field, so parents are the losers of a 1/2 day of leave.

YellowDinosaur · 26/06/2012 16:41

Yellow is not a losing colour!

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 26/06/2012 16:42

I was green, I found out recently that my old school got rid of green! I felt irrationally pissed off that our house will be forgotten about. Angry

Red generally won sports day.

snaplockslags · 26/06/2012 16:42

I was in the yellow house and we never won either!

5madthings · 26/06/2012 16:45

my ds2 and ds3 are in yellow, which is 'newton' at their primary and they won sports day and also the housepoint chart thing recently. dont remember what it was like when i was at school but i seem to remember the red team winning lots!

Ithinkitsjustme · 26/06/2012 16:47

Ecolady - after sitting for 2 hours in pouring rain to watch my son "run" in 2 races I would have been more than happy to "lose" a 1/2 days leave!! Envy

Yellow is the colour of intellectual stimulation.

I read this once, somewhere. So it must be true. And was my reason for always having a yellow fountain pen in exams.

We were assigned letters in my school rather tha colours, which almost, but didn't quite spell out the name of the school.

I was an 'M'. Ms are very unsporty. 'A's were sporty as hell but a bit thick.

ObiWan · 26/06/2012 16:51

Wow, it's all coming back to me. I was in the yellow house. There was a green house, a red one ad a blue one. Garnet, Southwell, Campion.. I cannot remember the name of the 4th.

But yes, yellow were rubbish and green were good at sports.

GreatGooglyMoogly · 26/06/2012 16:55

This year's sports day at the DC school was won by yellow house, followed by red, blue and then green. Yellow also won in 2010 (Blue won last year).

HSMM · 26/06/2012 16:59

DD was in yellow at primary - never won anything.

She's in purple at secondary and doing much better.

I was in green at primary and we won everything.

EdithWeston · 26/06/2012 16:59

Strikes a chord: green and red are the two houses that win things the most. Blue is usually third and yellow trailing.

And when I was at school, green won the house cup 3 years out of four (can't remember where the others came - I was in green).

soozeedol · 26/06/2012 17:03

I detest school sports day!...and don't care

thanksamillion · 26/06/2012 17:15

You're totally right OP, in fact DH and I were talking about this earlier. We're running a holiday club at the moment and the yellow team are last at everything. It's the same every year.

Kniternator · 26/06/2012 17:52

I was in the yellow house and we were crap at everything.

Red were the sporty house and Green were the academic house.

My DH was in the yellow house too at a totalling different school and they were shite too.

cocolepew · 26/06/2012 17:55

DD had to wear yellow this year and won 2 golds

nizlopi · 26/06/2012 17:57

Yellow always won Sports day at my school, it was Red (me :( ) who always lost!

McHappyPants2012 · 26/06/2012 18:01
