is yellow just a losing colour? (Sports Day related)

Bear with me, when I was in school I was in Yellow house - we never, EVER won anything! I have 4 children who have gone through several different schools and they have all been in Yellow house and again, they have never, EVER won Sports Day or anything else that I know of. Nearly every year it is Red (with the occassional blue year thrown in) that comes away with the trophy. Does anyone else find the same thing? and if so why do you think it is?

And while I'm on Sports Day, why do some parents take it SO seriously. We even have some parents who TRAIN for the parents race - is it just me, or is this really quite sad? (and is there anyone prepared to admit to doing this??)

Oh and by the way yes those parents are sad. Really sad.
And I will admit: I train a little teeny bit.
I plan to win.
Still a yellow at heart you see Grin

Blue was the "poor team" both at primary and secondary for my schools.

Yellow was my team at primary and the house (team point) cup was contested between yellow and green. The sports were between red and yellow.

At secondary the yellow team master in charge was super competitive, so the rest of us would be having fun, and they'd be taking it seriously Grin. But it was usually green won the most overall, red won the most sports (they were the boarders so they got extra practice) and yellow usually won a fair selection of both, more sports things than green, but not quite as much overall. Blue house used to not win anything, or perhaps 1-2 events a year (out of 20+)

Yellow was the rubbish team at my school.

I was in the Mums race back in the day and was tripped up by an over-eager Mother. But I got up, smiled and ran to the end .

"Belgium is yellow in It's a knockout"

Said on TV about 30 years ago when a reporter was asking 5 year olds what they knew about European countries.

So can we blame Belgium?

Beanbagz · 27/06/2012 06:01

Yellow always wins as my DC's school. It's blue which is always the losing team.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 27/06/2012 06:13

I as in yellow house in school. We also never one. It was usually blue if I remember correctly.

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 27/06/2012 06:22

Yeah it's totally true. The Australians never win any medals at the Olympics.

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 27/06/2012 06:24

And those Jamaicans are so slow! They wear yellow too Wink

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 27/06/2012 06:27

Parents TRAIN for the parents' race?????? Bloody hell!

TheSpokenNerd · 27/06/2012 08:33

I was yellow and we were all crap at sports. DD is in green and I am hoping it's a winner.

I hate sports day though.

Yellow a losing colour?

That must explain why the Brazil football team have never won anything.
