is yellow just a losing colour? (Sports Day related)

Bear with me, when I was in school I was in Yellow house - we never, EVER won anything! I have 4 children who have gone through several different schools and they have all been in Yellow house and again, they have never, EVER won Sports Day or anything else that I know of. Nearly every year it is Red (with the occassional blue year thrown in) that comes away with the trophy. Does anyone else find the same thing? and if so why do you think it is?

And while I'm on Sports Day, why do some parents take it SO seriously. We even have some parents who TRAIN for the parents race - is it just me, or is this really quite sad? (and is there anyone prepared to admit to doing this??)

I was in red (St Georges), and we always came out on top. Then it was always between blue (St Andrews) and green (St Patricks) with Yellow (St Davids) always coming last.

DS is in the green group and won once, and came second the other two times with red and blue taking the lead. Yellow however has been last every year so far.

Sabriel · 26/06/2012 18:50

I was Yellow. At our school the winning team alternated between Blue and Yellow.

As an aside, did anyone else find they were able to accurately guess which team any pupil was in just by looking at them?

MarshaBrady · 26/06/2012 18:52

Yellow were the best at singing / music.

Blue and Green the best at sport. One or the other winning each year.

Red was quite good at sport and quite good at singing / music.

CoffeeDog · 26/06/2012 19:30

we had

Saxons Yellow
Romans Blue
Tudors Green
stewerts RED gave up trying to spell stewarts...

i was green - we won everything ;)

JumpingThroughHoops · 26/06/2012 19:33

Yes: yellow are losers, it is the colour of cowardice (cowardly custard) in business it is the colour of deceit.

Red is aggression and the colour of winners through most sports teams

stewerts RED gave up trying to spell stewarts... try Stuart

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 26/06/2012 19:34

Yellow should be the best at running. It is the colour of wee, after all.

EugenesAxe · 26/06/2012 19:40

I would never train for the parents race, no way. Let them get on with it if it means that much to them I say!!

At primary school Scott were yellow and they won sports day for AGES. Then Livingstone (green) had a resurrgence (HTF do you spell that...?). Wellington were red and they were crap.

At secondary school red were the best and yellow were a bit pants. I was red all the way so had highs and lows.

quoteunquote · 26/06/2012 19:43

Yellow represents action,so perfect for winning at sport.

we always won, I was in yellow.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 26/06/2012 19:44

I was in the yellow house, Merevale. I was captain of the sports team and we won by some bizarre miracle

I'm sure we won the house points cup at least one year as well.

BikeRunSki · 26/06/2012 19:48

In cycling (road racing) the winner traditionally wears a yellow jersey.

lazyfish · 26/06/2012 20:22

It's true!! My DDs are in yellow house which came last in Sports Day again - and last by a huge margin not just a dribble. Reds won for the third year in a row. Perhaps it's because all the members of one family are put in the same house to avoid divided loyalties - so if, as a family, like us, you're a bit lacking in the co-ordination department, you're damning the house to years of sporting underachievement! :)

Booette · 26/06/2012 20:24

DS2 was in blue team this year and they lost. Green won. I can't remember which order red and yellow were in.

Blues won the tug of war though, so I was pleased with that!

DartsAgain · 26/06/2012 20:38

No houses at DD's secondary or DS's primary. At primary, the school has a half day sports day for each key stage, and the teams are groups of 8-10, mixed across the years in that key stage. So each team has the potential to win something.

BatmanLovesCheese · 26/06/2012 20:44

Ooh, there was a thread on this a couple of years ago and someone on it said that for precisely this reason Away team changing rooms in football are painted yellow. No idea if that's true, but I like the idea.

I was Green (Nightingale) - we always won Swimming Gala and House Points, but Blue (Cavell) always won Sports Days. Yellow (Churchill) and Red (Nelson) never came anywhere...

Trills · 26/06/2012 20:46

YABU to not have asked if you are being unreasonable.

Red cars go faster.

Trills · 26/06/2012 20:46

Yellow is closest to gold so should win lots.

Flobbadobs · 26/06/2012 21:23

Our house colour was yellow. We were last in everything. Every year. Red always won..

WowOoo · 26/06/2012 21:29

I was in yellow - a deep yellow that was more like GOLD. Gold wins!
We won every sporting event anyway.

The luck of the draw isn't it in a given of 100 children. If by chance you have at least 10 or 15 ish out of 25 that happen to be the best at something you'll win.

I cannot sympathise enough for the greens. They were shite and came last.

Yellow V Blue were always in the finals.

Trills if you had ever witnessed me in a clapped out red polo car you might change your mind about red cars going fast!

montmartre · 26/06/2012 21:31

I was in yellow- we lost sports day every year!

(I We did get most merits though)
