Bloody hate football!
Bring on Wimbledon!

OP posts:
redlac · 24/06/2012 21:37

But he is Scottish! Just because he says he's Scottish that doesn't mean that he "actively doesn't want to be part of britain"

DuffyMoon · 24/06/2012 21:38

well surprise fucking surprise...extra fucking time...wanders off to watch paint dry

redlac · 24/06/2012 21:38

mrsjay can't really blame your dad - got to be wary of these Hillfooters :)

yellowraincoat · 24/06/2012 21:39

It's weird because you're not part of the culture, Outraged. And I can see why it hurts when it's your own family, but the best thing is just to shrug it off if you can. For me, it is genuinely just funny. My partner is English and I might whisper a quick "viva italia" when he heads off to the pub, but when he comes home when England have lost as usual, I'll be sympathetic. Anything else would be horrible.

Doesn't the "anyone but Murray" thing come from him saying he supported "anyone but England"?

rubberglove · 24/06/2012 21:40

Early on in his career Murray was 18 years old.

Did none of his critics ever say something stupid or head strong at that age?

I haven't seen that sentiment since and I do think he has matured.

Mrsjay · 24/06/2012 21:40

Grin @hillfooters

rubberglove · 24/06/2012 21:42

And was it not in a press conference with Henman and actually the banter you refer to.

But as usual the press wind it up

Bigwheel · 24/06/2012 21:43

Yabu if your English. You shoud be supporting your country if nothing else.

yellowraincoat · 24/06/2012 21:43

I believe it was indeed banter.

yellowraincoat · 24/06/2012 21:45

Anyway, the match is dragging on and on and on. And I need to go to bed. Can't SOMEONE just score. Anyone. Even England.

DuffyMoon · 24/06/2012 21:46

I live in Great Britain...are the British team playing in Euro 2012...

fedupofnamechanging · 24/06/2012 21:48

redlac, I'm just repeating what I think he said. Of course you can be both Scottish and British, but some people do identify as Scottish/English/Welsh as opposed to British. I make no judgement on that - I think you are what you feel yourself to be.

rubberglove, I don't know how he feels now. He may have changed his views (if those were his views), he might not. I don't care, either way (I think of tennis as each player representing themselves, rather than their country, because it is not a team sport) - just offering a theory as to why he might not be well liked by everyone in England.

rubberglove · 24/06/2012 21:48

I am ill and need to go to bed, come on

TapirBackRider · 24/06/2012 21:49

But yellow wanks can be useful...I prefer using the term arsebiscuits myself Wink

MildredIsMyAlterEgo · 24/06/2012 21:50

YABU

I don't care much for the Olympics but I still hope Team GB do well.

I wouldn't worry too much OP, even if they get through tonight they're likely to crash out to Germany in the semis.

fedupofnamechanging · 24/06/2012 21:50

X posted. Perhaps it was just banter then and it has been taken with more seriousness than intended.

rugbychick · 24/06/2012 21:52

Can't wait for the football to finish. Hurrah for being on maternity leave tho. I can watch all the tennis I want (until dp complains!), then the Olympics. Shame it doesn't extend to the 6 nations next year Sad

fedupofnamechanging · 24/06/2012 21:52

This is going to end up with penalties. I wish England well, but god, I'm bored and wish they'd crack on and score.

PrincessTamTam · 24/06/2012 21:52

The message here is a classic - don't like the nasty oiks who play footie and can't speak properly, but those nice middle class chaps that play tennis are just lovely in their little white shorts.

I like footie (have to really in all male house) but I also like tennis and love Wimbledon... except for watching Nadal pick his shorts out of his arse the whole time... anyone else noticed the way he does that? Urgh.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 24/06/2012 21:53

I don't think I will ever understand what's funny about it yellow, I suppose because I'd feel quite ashamed of myself if I behaved that way. I don't believe culture is a good reason for stupidity. That makes me think of the Japanese thinking it's ok to kill whales in the name of 'culture', or women not being allowed out of the house without a male family member because of the 'culture'. Calling it culture doesn't make it ok.

It is dragging on far too long now though! It's not even golden goal Apparantly, they have to play the full 30 minutes even if someone scores. I want ds to go to bed!!

PrincessTamTam · 24/06/2012 21:56

It will be interesting to see what happens when they are all playing together for the GB footie team at the Olympics.

Mrsjay · 24/06/2012 21:56

Just because your country is playing something doesnt mean you have to support them though doesn't make you any less patriotic ,

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 24/06/2012 21:57

Yanbu, I hate it when England win at football.
Because everyone gets completely over excited and it just prolongs the agony because they will eventually get knocked out in some tragic penalty situation and then everyone's miserable. Would be kinder all round if they just ballsed it up from the start.

Can't wait for Wimbers though.

DuffyMoon · 24/06/2012 21:58

oh mrsjay with football it does - not supporting en-ger-land ...you may as well show your arse to the queen !

Saltire · 24/06/2012 21:58

If I am correct, there will be a GB footie team at Olympics, but it will only be comprised of English players, as the Scots, Welsh and N Irish football associations didn't want to lose the right to play as individual nations at future matches - world cup, euros etc.
