Bloody hate football!
Bring on Wimbledon!

Thanks outraged,I'm just keeping it real.
To be fair I hope they do win,it's been quite nice how everyone, well nearly everyone, has been proud to be a Brit, what with the jubilee, football and the Olympics coming up.
Plus the England goalkeeper is quite fit,it would be nice to see him on the tv a bit longer.

noddyholder · 24/06/2012 20:38

Yabu and I love wimbledon!

fedupofnamechanging · 24/06/2012 20:39

Scotland isn't marginalised though. The last two Prime Ministers were Scottish.

DoingTheBestICan · 24/06/2012 20:40

And also we will have to listen to the woman tennis player who grunts like a wart hog.
I'd rather watch England play football.

yellowraincoat · 24/06/2012 20:40

karmabeliever, I'm not getting into the ways in which Scotland is marginalised, apart from to say it probably doesn't matter, it's just that Scottish people FEEL like they are.

cheekybarsteward · 24/06/2012 20:42

outraged why? Have I missed something?

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 24/06/2012 20:43

I agree - both about the British thing and the goalie. And at least when you have a team To support the whole thing is more fun.

It's a shame the countries of GB can't all support each other more. My Scottish roots would be out in full force if Scotland were in and England weren't, and the Scots don't have much to worry about anyway what with it being highly unlikely that we are actually going to win the trophy.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 24/06/2012 20:43

Why what? X posted.

yellowraincoat · 24/06/2012 20:47

I suppose supporting not-England gives us someone to support. That's probably why some in Scotland do it.

I might be talking mince, but I find it's part of the Scottish sense of humour to wind someone up and the more wound up the person gets, the more we find it funny. I don't think we share this trait with the English.

So you shouldn't get too upset when we don't support you. For me, at least, it's just a bit of a laugh.

cheekybarsteward · 24/06/2012 20:49

Sorry outraged was hoping I had missed something witty, could do with a laugh :(

redlac · 24/06/2012 20:51

mrsjay of course Murray is held up as a local hero - apart from Willie Carson and Duncan Ferguson and Andy there's not that many sporting heroes from Stirling/Dunblane!

AnyoneForTennis · 24/06/2012 20:51

That 'winding up' thing..... Is that why it maybe ends in violence?Sounds nasty to me, certainly not 'humour'

landofsoapandglory · 24/06/2012 20:53

I sort of hope England go through, because the matches are still going to be on the tell so we may as well have a home side to support!

I like Wimbledon, but am not bothered about the first few days TBH, but Andy Murray hype puts me off the whole flipping thing if I am honest!

redlac · 24/06/2012 20:53

I don't buy the 'I would support Scotland' from the English - I bet if you were a Man Utd fan you wouldn't support Man City cos they were in a tournament would you? It's all a bit patronising IMO

OlympicRingSting · 24/06/2012 20:53

With you all the way. I can't see the point of watching 22 men getting paid millions to run around on a piece of grass . Watching toddlers run around my garden is far more entertaining!

Softlysoftly · 24/06/2012 20:56

Can't stand football but want them to win for DH so he will be a happy monkey (he is welsh we live in Wales also can't stand the anti English thing!!)

Can't stand Wimbledon but SIL loves it and it makes her happy so I'll allow it.

I'm just all give give give....

yellowraincoat · 24/06/2012 20:58

Yes AnyoneForTennis, Scottish people ARE all violent Hmm

Softlysoftly · 24/06/2012 20:59

redlac I would and have supported Ireland in the past, all in it together and all that.

yellowraincoat · 24/06/2012 20:59

I just...is that why WHAT ends in violence, AnyoneForTennis? Rivalry between Scotland and England? The teams barely ever play each other.

I've found VERY few Scottish people who actually give a fuck about someone being English.

aimingforthesky · 24/06/2012 20:59

YANBU

landofsoapandglory · 24/06/2012 21:00

I'm not being anti-Scottish by not supporting Andy Murray, I didn't like the Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski hype either.

redlac, I am more of a Rugby fan and always support the home nations when they are playing an overseas team if England aren't playing that particular game.

fedupofnamechanging · 24/06/2012 21:06

I don't think the English would actively support Scotland, but we wouldn't actively not support them, redlac.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 24/06/2012 21:07

redlac - I'm not enough of a football supporter to care about changing my allegiance to Scotland if England weren't there to support anyway. I am what you woudo probably describe as fickle.

In my youth I supported whichever football team my boyfriend at the time happened to support. Except when I went out with a Man Utd supporter.

DuffyMoon · 24/06/2012 21:07

oh god! come on Italy...come on - otherwise it will be extra time...and penalties and a 90 minute game will last 5 fucking hours with every millisecond dissected...and if England get through, they will play Germany next...and the coverage will be ramped up even more FFS
