original thread in preteens

her first period was 10 days of heavy bleed, clots, the lot, with the same pain.

the next two were lovely normal periods, 28 day ones. No Ponstan or painkillers(Mefanimec acid) required.

Was taking the Ponstan when these pains began as they were so bad (this is day 41 ish), later told by 2nd gp we saw a week ago, this in itself may have stopped the bleed. Stopped the Ponstan one week ago, but same cramps and still no bleed.

Pain is crippling at night, at bedtime and i have had to lie down with her for ten nights now to soothe her to sleep. Has had every painkiller going to no avail.

How can there not be any blood. Where has it gone??!!

Sorry to post here, but i thought there would be lots of ladies out there who may have had this type of period, or irregular cycles, with no bleed just pain, to help me understand that part. thanksx

Hi pirate,
Nc'd. (was mrstulip upthread) and been on hols - oh my goodness what a lot has happened! I'm so glad ur daughter has gotten the right hospital, with a team that has gotten a diagnosis and a treatment plan.

You've done great, and you must feel proud of yourself for keeping on pushing for her (and the vindication that it was not in her head). Mums are ace! My earlier problems were nowt compared with ur wee girl's but I remember how my mum was there throughout. She couldn't go thru it for me or stop the pain/ physical symptoms but she did all the worrying and stressing for me and like you, she kept pushing for me to get help. I'm sure ur daughter is relieved to have a mum like you to do that for her while she gies thru this, out the other side and gets better!

I hope u get seen and checked out quickly today. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the shortness of breath is something minor (or speeds up her surgery so she can recover instead of wait and see-ing til next uss)

BurningBridges · 02/07/2012 12:02

i can only second what sad said above. You've been fantastic, keep going, the end may not be in sight yet but its definitely getting nearer meaning your DD will be all better. I keep checking this thread to see how you are both getting on, everyone is rooting for you and in awe of your tenacity. Hope you have better news or at least more news today.

TheUnsinkableTitanic · 02/07/2012 12:57

ooohhh, just read your update - good luck pirate and dd

piratecat · 02/07/2012 16:48

helllooo.

thankyou again.x

had a chest xray, all clear, hosp were fab and fast, it wasn't very busy in the kids bit of A+E.

The funny breathing had actually calmed right down and nigh on stopped by the time a doc saw us, as is sometimes the way.

They don't know what it was, but nowt on the lungs, so we are back home again.

she is ok, and on the Wii lol. xxx great!

Good news!

VivaLeBeaver · 03/07/2012 19:09

Piratecat, it's ironic that after your thread my 11yo dd has come down with the same symptoms. Agonising abdominal pain/cramps, worse at night. Sobbing with pain, painkillers not helping. We,re at day three now, drs seem a bit uninterested and say it's probably a virus.

I haven't mentioned cysts to them yet as don't want to come across like a googling hypochondriac, but think I'll have to if it carries on.

Did your dd get any let up from the pain? My dd says it's there all the time, but then gets stronger in waves where it feels like she's getting tied in a knot inside. Movement also seems to make it worse.

piratecat · 04/07/2012 09:58

oh viva. no!!

Has your dd started her periods?

My dd had pain all the time like your dd, but low level, then it would come in big waves of severe pain. It's likened to appendix pain.

Her pain was central, in the uterus. Not on any one side. No swelling in the abdomen, and no pain when prodded in the ovary, only in the womb.

The pain lasted two weeks, on and off. Worse at night, before sleep, but when asleep slept through. I can't say it was any better or worse with movement, but going up the stairs, when it was severe was almost impossible.

If this continues, for a couple more days, i would do as i did, get down to a+e, explain the severity, and tell them its terrible, you will have to emphasize that alot ime.

You could say, that although you know it's prob not, that you have a friend whose dd had something similar very recently and it turned out that an ultrasound found the enlarged ovary.

My dd went back to school yesterday, but bless her woke yesterday and was on her bloody period (day 60). So my fear is that the ovary will flare up again. Tho I 'think' the severe pain it's related to her ovulation on that crap side.

pm me if needed, or update here, as it helps all to get familiar with this.

I am out till later. lots of love.x

Thanks for the info Piratecat. The symptoms sound very similar. DD's severe pain is right sided, but the low level constant pain is there all the time.

Day 4 now so I don't think it can be a virus/tummy bug as there's no vomiting.

She's been at my mum's today and from what my mum said when I picked her up I thought she was a little better. Only had about 5 or 6 bouts of severe pain all day. But then I got home and she was rolling about on the floor again. Is now happily watching TV more or less pain free.

DD hasn't started her periods yet.

Will see how she is overnight/tomorrow and then see about taking her to a&e and see if they will scan her.

Fingers crossed your dd's ovary doesn't flare up again.

I'll let you know what happens.

CaptainVonTrapp · 04/07/2012 17:09

piratecat glad to see you are making some progress.

I wonder if your dd could be suffering from Shortness of breath due to anxiety? It must have been a very stressful time for her too. Its very common.

Its also widely reported as a symptom of PMS. Google 'shortness of breath pms' to see many discussions about this. As the the chest x-ray was clear and she has now started her period this would certainly fit.

RandomMess · 04/07/2012 18:00

Viva have you done the appendicitus test? You press where the appendix is and then when you let go she will scream in pain!!!! You can get referred pain for appendix.

Either way I would trot off to A&E sooner rather than later.

VivaLeBeaver · 04/07/2012 18:06

We've been to the GP twice and they've pressed her tummy all over and asked her when it hurts. So I assume they've done that.

I didn't know about the pain been after you've pressed so thats useful, thanks.

piratecat · 04/07/2012 18:52

dd's tummy only hurt in the uterine area.

i would go to a+E, they said that the only thing that would have helped dd's pain was morphine.xx

piratecat · 04/07/2012 18:54

captain, i will look into the pms shortness of breath, it's incredible what you can find out, thanks for that.

FriedSprout · 05/07/2012 16:49

Viva, absence of pain in the area mentioned does not mean it is not apendix, if you see what I mean. My dd had temp, vomiting and incredible pain, but when they did pressing test it did not indicate appendix probs. when they eventuallly investigated internally her appendix had literally exploded. We nearly lost her, but they were very surprised that it was her appendix. Hope you uncover what it is soon.

piratecat · 05/07/2012 16:57

agreed, they said that they have had many kids in with appendix probs and no pain in that specific area.

She seems a lot better today. I sent her to school. Apparantly though she had a mouthful of sick just before the end of the day and her teacher told her not to come back in tomorrow.

piratecat · 05/07/2012 19:00

hope she stays improved, will you keep her at home tomorrow to recover?

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 05/07/2012 19:08

Think I'm going to have to if her teacher told her not to come in. She seems right as rain to me.

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 05/07/2012 19:25

Piratecat :( I haven't been on MN for ages (trying to sort RL out) - I have been thinking about DD though (especially when I get my period, I really feel for her being so young :( My period pains are getting worse and I can't imagine a 9yo going through that (and worse by the sounds of it!!).

I'm glad you went to A&E and that the new hospital is much better.

How did she get on today?

She's such a lovely wee thing who has been through too much, it's not fecking fair!

RE the GP - I'd change Drs, her attitude is terrible.

piratecat · 06/07/2012 09:44

hello, chipping, i hope real life is working ok for you?

apart from a painful period, she is still in school this week and we are waiting for an ultrasound appt. will check the post soon.x
