original thread in preteens

her first period was 10 days of heavy bleed, clots, the lot, with the same pain.

the next two were lovely normal periods, 28 day ones. No Ponstan or painkillers(Mefanimec acid) required.

Was taking the Ponstan when these pains began as they were so bad (this is day 41 ish), later told by 2nd gp we saw a week ago, this in itself may have stopped the bleed. Stopped the Ponstan one week ago, but same cramps and still no bleed.

Pain is crippling at night, at bedtime and i have had to lie down with her for ten nights now to soothe her to sleep. Has had every painkiller going to no avail.

How can there not be any blood. Where has it gone??!!

Sorry to post here, but i thought there would be lots of ladies out there who may have had this type of period, or irregular cycles, with no bleed just pain, to help me understand that part. thanksx

Just read full thread - how scary. Thinking of you and dd

piratecat · 28/06/2012 21:28

hi,

we are HOME!!

She the other mri today, with the dye. The great news we got late this afternoon was that the cysts inside are benign. The relief was enormous.
Then they told her that she will most prob have to have the ovary removed, which she has taken very well. She is very brave.
This will prob be done at Bristol within next few weeks. The staff were really having to catch their breath with this too, as when i took her in noone expected this, and at the time her pain was intermittent, and during the dull pain she was animated and good as gold, herself, shall we say.
Luckily the pain has all but gone, for now, yet the ovary is not functioning at all, so will never be of any use to her, which is very sad.
The pain she endured was intense because they believe it was twisting her fallopian tube. It is now settled, but we don't know how long for. xx

:) :) Great news! But please be kind to yourself - you've been through a lot in the last few days. I hope both you and your DD get a good night's sleep tonight; you probably need one.

Thanks for updating.

BabyGiraffes · 28/06/2012 21:35

Glad you are home and have time to take it all in. Been following your thread (personal interest like many of us on this thread - took me many years to get a diagnosis and then still had to give a small lecture to registrars who didn't understand my history when I was pregnant). She'll be absolutely fine with a mother like you!! Smile So very glad you put your foot down. And please tell your GP where she can shove her health shop and acupuncture idea!!!!!!!!!!! Angry What is it with doctors that they think children's pain is not real?

ImperialBlether · 28/06/2012 21:46

What a relief. Another one here who's been following this wishing everything good for your daughter.

oiwheresthecoffee · 28/06/2012 21:50

So glad you ve had some good news. Hopefully the pain will stay away and after the op be gone forever. X

hellymelly · 28/06/2012 21:50

PHEW! That is good news.SO glad the cysts are benign. My friend who lost her ovary was in so much pain when admitted to hospital through A+E (having been told by her GP that it was "stress") that she had to crawl to her Dad's car on her hands and knees. So your DD has been extremely brave ,as you say. I hope your DD is soon pain-free.

RandomMess · 28/06/2012 21:51

I'm glad that the cysts are benign so sad that she has a non-functioning ovary but hopefully this will be end of the pain and from now on they will take any potential gynae problems with her very seriously.

At least she will have the summer hols to recover from her op friends dd couldn't carry her school bag for ages or do PE etc for a while.

so glad we nagged you to go to A&E!

Hulababy · 28/06/2012 21:52

Glad you are home but what a shock for you and DD. I hope her pain is improved now and they can make it so in the future. Poor girl :(

poorbuthappy · 28/06/2012 21:55

As an aside...tell her this:

I lost my ovary and fallopian tube due to a benign cyst after my first pregnancy. TTC for 6 months a few years later and ended up with ID twins.

So glad this horrible time is being sorted out.
All the best. x

AlmostAHipster · 28/06/2012 23:04

Excellent news! X

devonshiredumpling · 28/06/2012 23:10

i am going to suggest acupuncture i had the same thing and a course of acupuncture sorted me

OneHandWavingFree · 28/06/2012 23:51

Wonderful news. :)

Of course there will be sadness in the loss of the ovary (though thankfully plenty of stories here to be reassured by!), but hopefully tonight you can just bask in the relief brought on by the word 'benign', the fact that your dd is not in pain now, and comfort of being home together where you belong.

You are very good to update us here :)

shewhowines · 29/06/2012 13:16

Another lurker saying well done for following your maternal instincts. Hope it all goes well.

ShellyBoobs · 29/06/2012 14:29

devonshiredumpling - surely are you referring to the pain rather than the underlying medical issue?

hackmum · 29/06/2012 14:38

Yes, that is good news - it sounds like your DD is being well looked after. Obviously not great losing the ovary but from what you say it could have been so much worse. Your DD sounds like a wonderful, brave little girl. You must be very proud of her.

SauvignonBlanche · 29/06/2012 17:50

Delighted to hear that you're home. I hope that DD remains pain free until the surgery. Smile
devonshiredumpling, I'm sure you don't mean that the acupuncture will take away the need for an oopherectomy? Hmm

piratecat · 29/06/2012 21:22

hello all, thankyou once again for all your encouraging messages.

Doc rang today, Bristol are hoping it's a Hemorrhagic cyst description here , and to do this as it's not 100% clear they wish to do another ultrasound on dd in two weeks. If it's shrunk at all this is good, as it could be monitored and it could well all go down. If it's the same size or has got bigger, it has to come out.

VivaLeBeaver · 29/06/2012 21:32

Fingers crossed it's shrunk then!

RandomMess · 29/06/2012 21:38

Wow lets hope she avoids surgery sounds like the Bristol team are fantastic.

TheUnsinkableTitanic · 29/06/2012 21:44

great news :)

SauvignonBlanche · 29/06/2012 22:02

That's good news - fingers crossed!

lilbreeze · 29/06/2012 22:24

Thank goodness you didn't rely on the gp's advice. Instead it was correctly "diagnosed" in the second reply on tho thread - amazing! So glad your dd is getting good treatment now x

piratecat · 02/07/2012 08:53

hi all. dd has had shortness of breath all weekend, and no amount of resting has made any diff, so packing a bag and going back to the hosp.

as a last resort i googled ovarian cysts and shortness of breath, and it is a symptom Confused, and to do with what i can gather fluid in the abdomen or lungs.

or could be anything. see you later, with positive news i hope x

Bonsoir · 02/07/2012 08:55

Good luck, piratecat, and I hope that your DD has the treatment she needs now.
