on forms when there is a Religion or Faith box and people put none.

No faith.

Realy?

No faith in anything?

It makes me feel sad for them. How empty and meaningless and small they must feel. Poor things.

Interesting. I imagine they find you weak for needing something that isn't actually there to make you able to cope with life.

But I could be wrong.

FunnyBird · 21/06/2012 07:42

How patronising.

I'm fine without faith, thank you. Keep your sadness for those who need it.

Pooka · 21/06/2012 07:44

Bonkers op.

Doesn't mean you dont necessarily have faith in yourself, or your husband or in the fundamental goodness of people.

But you know (surely) that it refers to organised faith/religion? Not your faith in the weather reports of say the BBC as opposed to the itv weather reports.

cornysilk · 21/06/2012 07:44

how do you know what people tick? It's confidential.

AgentProvocateur · 21/06/2012 07:44

Please don't feel sorry for me. I have a very full, happy and meaningful life which I will make the most of, in the knowledge that it will end one day and that will be that. My considerable love and compassion will be shared among my friends and family and not wasted on some imaginary deity. Smile

TheCunningStunt · 21/06/2012 07:44

YABU. I have no religious "faith" which is what it is referring too. Hardley makes me vacuous. But poor me Hmm

Funsponge · 21/06/2012 07:45

Fred about a fred sorry.
I find it insulting and patronising that people think church goers are fair game for piss tsking.

OP posts:
defineme · 21/06/2012 07:46

I have faith in humanity, but there's no box for that.
I have faith that that was a joke op Grin

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 21/06/2012 07:47

Whether you feel it is up to you, Funsponge, but it's a very patronising attitude.
The family I work for are humanists. Their lack of belief in eternal life means they're all the more motivated to make this life the best it can be. When the father died 10 years ago, his funeral - with the talk of his body being absorbed back into the earth - was the most beautiful one I've ever been to.

I would save your pity for people who are fooled or trapped by cults or are terrified by a belief in a harsh, cruel God.

CoteDAzur · 21/06/2012 07:49

Well, i just read your OP and I feel sad for you.
HTH.

CoteDAzur · 21/06/2012 07:50

Oh and YABU. In case you were wondering.

defineme · 21/06/2012 07:50

Wouldn't Jesus just have let the insults/patonising attitudes/piss taking go?
I've had peopel tell me my life has no meaning, but I'm quite happy to ignore them. There's impolite people with faith and without.

DilysPrice · 21/06/2012 07:50

If there was a box for faith in people's essential goodness, in science and the wonder of the universe, then I'd tick that, but it's normally missing for some reason. No need to be sad for me.

cornysilk · 21/06/2012 07:52

Jesus probably wouldn't have ticked a box anyway - wouldn't he have ripped up the form and kicked over a few tables?

runningforthebusinheels · 21/06/2012 07:58

YABU and a leetle bit silly if you think that you cannot lead a very happy and fulfilled life without believing in a deity.

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 21/06/2012 07:58

Hmm whatever happened to Christian attitude and turning the other cheek?

My lack of religious faith doesn't sadden me. I have faith in other things, family, friends, science, truth; all tangible things, but strangely never given a box for me to tick...

Tee2072 · 21/06/2012 07:59

What fred is it about?

AWimbaWay · 21/06/2012 08:00

I agree with DilysPrice.

runningforthebusinheels · 21/06/2012 08:02

OP finds it insulting and patronising that people think churchgoers are fair game for piss-taking?

So starts a thread insulting them? How very Christian.

OP ask yourself WWJD? Grin

ripsishere · 21/06/2012 08:02

I don't feel less of a person than DH or DD who would tick the practicing christian box.

cory · 21/06/2012 08:03

I thought as Christians we were supposed to rejoice in a bit of piss-taking, not be all touchy and sensitive. Where in the Sermon on the Mount does it say Blessed are those who feel sorry for themselves?

CornishKK · 21/06/2012 08:06

I'm with DilysPrice too.

MarkGruffalo · 21/06/2012 08:06

Okay I have just glanced at the 'amazed at churchgoing' thread to which you refer and so far every churchgoer on itis holding their own.

Have you voiced your opinion on said thread?

if not YABVU
thread about thread means deletion in any case. Countdown...
this thread is inflammatory, the other one the OP does say she has started out of curiosity as opposed to goading.

Meh. Wish i could care but i have little faith in anything right now other than my ability to eat chocolate and take the piss out of Pete Andre.

cory · 21/06/2012 08:07

Funsponge, you might want to reflect on the parable of the Pharisee praying in the temple (Luke 18: 9-14). Being sorry for other people because they are not as religious as yourself is not exactly something encouraged by the Founder of our religion.
