to be saddened when people tick the 'no faith' box.

on forms when there is a Religion or Faith box and people put none.

No faith.

Realy?

No faith in anything?

It makes me feel sad for them. How empty and meaningless and small they must feel. Poor things.

OP posts:
BetweenTwoToddlers · 21/06/2012 09:11

There is nothing empty or meaningless about my life without religion or faith. How patronising and short sighted to suggest it would be.

MarkGruffalo · 21/06/2012 09:15

beardydaddyman (Though I much prefer fucking thordaddyman) You have led me to listen to Huey this fine Thursday morning so I salute you Sir.

As to the OP she was doing a reverse pteradactyl YABU for reasons best known to her (Have now read all the other thread and not sure INSERT DEITY HERE would do more than yawn at any disagreements tbh.) and funsponge (Is this a contraceptive? Smile) seems to have disappeared....

echt · 21/06/2012 09:15

How it pisses me off to see, and I'm doing it myself, so much attention paid to the views of fantasists.

Would this be accorded to wicca believers? Or astrology nutbags?

AgathaFusty · 21/06/2012 09:16

"I find it insulting and patronising that people think church goers are fair game for piss "

I don't think the 'amazed at churchgoing' thread is pisstaking, I think the OP on that thread is asking what many of us athiests would like to ask. However, you are a entitled to your own opinion - but perhaps better to discuss your issues on that thread, rather than start a new thread that aims to deliberately annoy people?

I tick the no faith box because I don't believe in any of the organised religions, but I do have faith in lots of stuff outside of religion.

I do though, feel a bit like this Shock, at intelligent people who believe the god stuff, when there appears to be sufficient evidence these days to discount so much of it.

BetweenTwoToddlers · 21/06/2012 09:18

I missed the 'its a reverse' thing. Gah.

If the other thread is annoying you OP, argue your case on that thread.

Trills · 21/06/2012 09:19

YABU

I am pleased when people have the strength to say "no" rather than tick a box for something that they were vaguely brought up with but don't actively believe in.

But church goers are fair game for piss taking - you're a grown adult who has an imaginary friend. How do you expect the rest of the world to view you?

I would feel the same about anyone over the age of about 12 who genuinely believed in goblins, fairies, dragons or similar.

You've chosen to believe in such twaddle, and I think I am well within my rights to chuckle at your folly.

MarkGruffalo · 21/06/2012 09:23

funsponge You're back!

Why did you not post on the other thread cos it isn't full?
Why did you not report posts which you found offensive including the original post if you deemed it to be a goading thread?

echt · 21/06/2012 09:27

puddlejumper I know what you were responding to, but not what you meant.

Beatlebum · 21/06/2012 09:34

I tick he no religion box regardless. How is it possibly anyone elses business what I choose to believe in?

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 21/06/2012 09:45

But this is a op about ticking a box on a form and how it makes you sad.

Why be sad? It tells you nada?

I don't tick the faith box.
Nor do I tick the the Mr, Ms Miss, Miss Box
Nor do I tick the relationaship status box.

Neither my soul, relationship or gentalia have withered and died as a result of this tragic non ticking.

UABU do put silly waffle halfway through a thread about trying to prove a point that does not exist in the op nor has anything to o with it.

Also if you want a thread to be deleted that badly have an op that states you believe Gina Ford Kidnapped Madeline Mcaan. It would be gone in 60 seconds.

Yeah Cake? Chuckle this one off Grin

echt · 21/06/2012 09:54

puddlejumper had you read the rest of my post, you would have seen that it refers to a sense of "the norm" which, while being numerically accurate, excludes others in a way which is value-laden. So, childless, while being accurate, has the value that to not have a child is a lack, rather than a freedom.
No faith does the same.

What don't YOU understand?

DuelingFanjo · 21/06/2012 09:59

the norm is 'no faith' and then they get you and indoctrinate you.

DamnBamboo · 21/06/2012 10:00
echt · 21/06/2012 10:03

Too bloody right Fanjo

I can remember being told, as a child, that faith was a gift from God. Now I wonder how we could be blamed for not having a gift. FFS.

ohchristFENTON · 21/06/2012 10:04

Definitely goading, not cricket really is it?

And I hate this 'regular/known posters get away with it' bollocks, - its really boring. If MNHQ think any poster is breaking forum rules they will delete, regular or not.

NotGeoffVader · 21/06/2012 10:06

Sometimes forms don't give options for the faith you are 'in'. You don't often see Jainism, Pagan, Zoroastrian, Quaker....

manicbmc · 21/06/2012 10:07

I like that I live in a country where I have the option to tick the 'no faith' box. There are plenty of places where that is not possible.

So it makes me very damn happy that I can tick that box, knowing I have the freedom to have my own mind and my own ideas about faith and religion.

manicbmc · 21/06/2012 10:07

Or Jedi, NotGeoff. Grin

CommanderShepard · 21/06/2012 10:08

No need to pity me, thank you. It was reading Theology at university that turned me atheist.

CommanderShepard · 21/06/2012 10:10

NotGeoff I went through a phase of writing in 'Pastafarian'
