Why is mumsnet so anti men?

I joined mumsnet because I am currently seven months pregnant, but I didn't expect it to be so negative towards men. Husbands always seem to be in the wrong and for most posts there seems to be a reply of "leave the bastard" or "he seems abusive to me" even when it is not warranted.

I am not saying that the relationships being posted about are all sweetness and light, but surely females are in the wrong sometimes. In some cases it is okay for a woman to something i.e. tell a lie or buy something secretly, however a shooting offence for the man in the relationship to do the same thing.

Maybe I am naive but I thought this was a parenting website and I and really questioning whether it is worth sticking around. So am I being unreasonable and unrealistic?

Everlong - as I said in my earlier post, often the hard hitting 'leave him' posters see something in an opening post. Something that suggests a lot more is going on. And very often someone complaining about a husband down the boozer on AIBU will turn up on Relationships presenting an awful lot of other problems. Often the original presentation is the tip of iceberg.

Mumsnet isn't anti men. Society is, however, in some ways, patriarchal and misogynist. Most of the time this is so subtle it isn't always obvious and without MN I would never have noticed.

The leave the bastard posts are a bit too much but then a lot of the Doghouse posters end in aggression and bitching (no pun intended). This is not a women only forum, neither is it a babytalk only forum. It is the meeting of many minds and experiences. I listen to the good ones, ignore the kneejerk sarcastic ones and challenge the real nasty fuckers who are few and far between. If there are 5 tossers for every one worra, it is still worth it for me.

Yes I've also seen the 'everything is hunk dory now' threads, everlong - do you really just take everything on face value? It's very common for these OPs to come back weeks or months later, knowing they will be understood and supported, presenting more problems.

I do agree that some advice/reaction is knee jerk or a bit silly, but as I said everyone has different boundaries, experiences, viewpoints.

And Mumsnet is one of the very few places where some men's shitty behaviour isn't normalised or minimised and where very intelligent and feisty women aren't afraid to challenge this.

My daughter has made and bought me lots of stuff for fathers day.
My son...nothing.

I'm going to chuck him out, typical male.

Proudnscary · 17/06/2012 09:14

What does 'trained in domestic violence' mean? Many or all of women you are talking about have been on the receiving end of it. Also are you saying it's best they don't speak up?

You really can't say whether that particular poster was 'back to normal' or not! People with terrible depression can act perfectly chipper and upbeat to the outside world. Maybe, probably, hopefully she was.

Personally I could post on here about my dh being a dick every now and then, knowing my marriage is generally strong. But I think that's the difference - I don't post on here about him iyswim.

It's not just DV that's picked up, it's EA - which is admittedly more of a grey area but one that very few people seem to talk about or understand in RL. Some women being emotionally abused will genuinely have no idea they are - they just think they are going mad/not being a good enough wife.

"often the hard hitting 'leave him' posters see something in an opening post. Something that suggests a lot more is going on"

maybe they do see something that strikes a cord but its when others join in with no reference points.

I have also found that its some of these hard hitters that post the different views such as sallykitten pointed out.

Now..if you had said anti 4x4....
