AIBU to think that women should not have to be discreet when breastfeeding?

I'm not saying that anyone should purposely flop both boobs out into someones dinner. But it makes me really mad that some people think women should have to be discreet when feeding their baby, sit in a corner or breastfeeding 'booth'.

I also think a breast is just not comparable to a penis to a vagina and if people are offended because they see breasts as purely sexual then that is their own problem.

Noone would object to me sitting in public drinking my coffee or feeding my baby a bottle of cows milk yet people find breastmilk offensive.

I'm not bitty mad I lasted 2 weeks breastfeeding but it still makes my blood boil that it is seen as controversial by many.

AIBU?

So are you using hyperbole and exaggeration or have you really seen boobs being waved around - because you see, how could one wave a boob, I can't quite picture it I'm afraid, being as they are attached to one's front [ponders]

StealthPolarBear · 22/06/2012 10:20

here come the pointless insults as we've all run out of things to argue about.

TandB · 22/06/2012 10:21

Oh bloody hell, meta, thanks for that image!

I now have a picture in my head of a little man wearing lacy panties and sitting at his keyboard trying to provoke discussion on breasts for his own dubious purposes.

[goes to scrub self down]

TandB · 22/06/2012 10:22

I reckon if I took hold of the very base of my breast I could probably waft it a bit. Not sure about waving though.

Or I could lean forwards so they both dangle free and then wiggle violently from side to side. But I think that would be more like jiggling than waving.

Metalelephant · 22/06/2012 10:23

Grin kungfupanda, I wholeheartedly apologise!

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 22/06/2012 10:23

I'm going to spend the day learning to wave my breasts. Just in case I bump into panty lace in the future.

StealthPolarBear · 22/06/2012 10:24

When I try it's my stomach that waves. Hmmm..

TandB · 22/06/2012 10:25

If we all learned the proper technique we could find him and perform a mexican breast wave in front of him.

YouBrokeMySmoulder · 22/06/2012 10:25

Not waving but drowning

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 22/06/2012 10:26

If you get both out and rabbit hop from side to side that is almost wave like.

And of course a very common breastfeeding technique in some parts.

Metalelephant · 22/06/2012 10:28

Oooh a breast rabbit hop, how cute!

Socknickingpixie · 22/06/2012 10:34

My old headmistress used to say that glaring at people who are not behaving badly was a sign of the comunity breaking down and contributing towards antisocial behaviour.

My mother used to say if the wind changes you will stay like that.

Glare as much as you like it won't bother me I'm not an inexperanced vunrable new mother or a tiny helpless innocent little baby but if you inadvertantly chose to do so towards one then shame on you after all people who do things like that are also the sort of people who glare at elderly people who may not quite get all there food in there mouths or disabled people who may struggle to do things the way none disabled people do SHAME ON YOU or ofcourse you could choose to not be such a pisspoor excuse for a human being and display compasion towards those who are more vunrable than you

Socknickingpixie · 22/06/2012 10:37

Bloody auto correct not inadvertantly that shouldn't be there

PantyLace · 22/06/2012 10:40

Gosh you have a wild imagination Sock. You don't know me. In fact, I prefer older people and disabled people to the self important entitled mothers on this thread. I don't glare at the elderly or the disabled, and just because you say so does not make it so.

Get real you bloody fantasist!

StealthPolarBear · 22/06/2012 10:43

No, you're right, that's not what this is about

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 22/06/2012 10:45

Wow! So a woman is self important and entitled for just wanting to feed her baby out of the confines of her home.

Great! Keep it up.

Socknickingpixie · 22/06/2012 10:57

Oh bravo to you well done for not choosing to be offensive towards all Vunrable people and clarifying that you only choose to do so to babies and mothers who have the nerve to eat infront of your eyes bravo you must be so proud

I'm impressed you can sepparate babies from those who are vunrable in different ways

EasilyBored · 22/06/2012 11:05

I'm entitled and self-important because I want to leave the house sometimes?!

My baby is sick. All the time. After every feed, when he wriggles and rolls over, when he coughs and laughs etc. He posits milk ALL THE TIME. If I didn't leave the house when he was sick, I would have been house bound since Christmas. There's nothing wrong with him, except that he is a baby and his stomach muscles are still developing. He will grow out of it. You will never grow out of being rude and twatish. I think you are the one who needs to stay indoors, since I find it so offensive to be around idiots, and I can't help but ogle and stare and tut at your lack of campassion and rudeness.

Well congratulations panty, you've made me feel like shit for daring to try and live my life. Hope you're happy.

EasilyBored · 22/06/2012 11:09

Oh, and on the boob-flopping front. I assure you, I could do some serious flopping. I might do some seroius damage to the fixtures and fittings around me though.

Metalelephant · 22/06/2012 11:36

Easilybored, it's not your fault, it's those wayward breasts that keep waving at Panty...down, breasts, down!

mangomadness · 22/06/2012 14:25

I committed the ultimate sin... I feed my baby in an outside restaurant seating area at a national trust property.
It wasn't busy, a couple chose to sit at the table next to me as I was bfing, the man glared and the woman made comments. I just thought that they could fuck right off. Why sit next to me if they had a problem when there were 13 other tables? Stupid twats.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 22/06/2012 15:59

Are you sure you were breastfeeding nicely with decorum and your baby did not spit milk? Were your breasts waving at people?

I know it's difficult but you should consider staying at home for about the next 12 months.

yellowraincoat · 22/06/2012 16:09

Pantylace I've said it before, but no, we are NOT the ones telling other people to put their boobs away. Some of us might be, I, for one, go out wearing all manner of small and revealing clothes.

When you attach opinions to people who don't have them, you really don't help your argument.

Which is to stop wiggling boobs in people's faces. Which I've never seen, even though I used to live in the most nappy valley area of London.

I might go and wiggle my boobs in various faces today though, JUST to annoy people like you.

Socknickingpixie · 22/06/2012 16:45

sorry i had to go out and be militant otherwise known as meeting a friend having a coffee in marks and sparks and risking the possibility that if my child needs feeding someone may see me or even worse aforementioned child may start posseting

easily please please dont feel like shit, the problem is not with you at all the problem is with fuckwits who dont understand the difference between reasonable and unreasonable. its not in anyway selfish at all to want to leave the house even if shock horror you have a child with you its also in now way shape or form a entitled attitude do do so. i know this because a. i am reasonable b. i asked my sister who is the most unreasonable disagreable person i know and even she said it wasnt

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/06/2012 16:54

I am very sad to hear that yellowraincoat goes out in revealing clothes. In my head, all you ever wear is the yellow rain coat. As for waving breasts, I have been imagining the 1970's type nipple tassels and swinging them round and round.

I don't understand the ire. No one is saying all women have to BF, of those that do, we are not saying all of them have to show some flesh. So, of the small proportion of those BFing, and the small proportion of those who either have to or want to show a bit of nork... is it really worth all this anger?
