It is rough losing a best friend. My best mate and I had a MASSIVE MASSIVE falling our five years ago, and I still miss her sometimes. She's polite, but distant. tis tragic. Now I have DH as my bezzie mate, and he's alright at it, just not so good at the girl talk.

There were two girls in my hall of residence called Cathy and Claire. They were best friends.

my DH can't get far into some conversations without me going on MN...

unfortunately he relies on me for emotional support. Poor DH.

although sometimes its just kind of not the setting for that kind of conversation between us (ie when sober)

Toxic friendships are just pants aren't they? You think you know someone and then they turn really creepy, or aggressive.

Pickle may well be the answer for many situations.
