Do you have, or know anyone that does, principles that would absolutely not be ditched in the event of greater wealth?

I don't like Cathy and Claire. I wrote to them once and they never printed my letter. They are blacklisted.

I liked Melanie in Just Seventeen. She shot from the hip.

TuftyFinch · 15/06/2012 11:54

Then maybe you should let the friendship go? I know it's hard but being friends with someone because you've got a shared history is different to being friends with someone because they make you laugh. Sometimes the ties that bind strangle us.

Hullygully · 15/06/2012 11:55

I know exit, I am always having to explain to dh that there are thousands of slightly different angles to cover. He gets that desperate glazed look and says, whatever I say you're going to get cross, aren't you?

Well only if you don't agree with me. Dur.

I can't tell you how long it took him to get the pickle sandwich analogy.

I ask you.

Why dont we start a Jackiesque magazine for grown ups? Photo stories, problem pages, make ip tips . ...
It would retro, cheesy but relevant. We could have Wimpy as a sponsor.

Hullygully · 15/06/2012 11:57

yes tifty, but it's all a bit complicated. We know each other's friends and families and...I'm now thinking of moving

OP posts:
redrubyshoes · 15/06/2012 12:03

There is a Jackiesque comic for grown ups - it is called the Daily Mail.

TuftyFinch · 15/06/2012 12:07

Moving? Moving because seeing her will be awkward? Moving because you think it'll solve the issue by putting distance between you? But if you're both linked by other friends you'll still be revolving in the same circles so whichever way you slice it it'll still berth same pie. I think you either try and have it out (again) but from a 'I'm hurt about this situation, what shall we do' perspective rather than a defensive one.
Or, go down the pickle sndwichvroute and just smile tightly when she's around. I think moving's a bit drastic ... But, maybe not.

Hullygully · 15/06/2012 12:08

I like the moving idea. Tis dramatic.

OP posts:
TuftyFinch · 15/06/2012 12:08

Ha ha redruby but it's hardly retro is it? Or cool?

TuftyFinch · 15/06/2012 12:11

Move to the top of a cliff. Do wailing.
Burling Gap would be good. Can't get much more dramatic than your house falling in the sea. That'll learn her.

SpringHeeledJack · 15/06/2012 12:11

awww

I just peeped on Threads I'm On, and read Hully's post as "I can't tell you how long it took him to get the pickle sandwich ready"

SpringHeeledJack · 15/06/2012 12:12

and Melanie in Just Seventeen ruled

gramercy · 15/06/2012 12:21

Instead of hoovering I've just read 26 pages of thread...

Thoughts:

I'm now ravenous for a Bender in a Bun (but I've not seen a Wimpy Bar for about 30 years)

I have 5 years' worth of Jackies in the garage. Anyone remember "The Pathetic Attempts of Leonard J Watkins to find love in a world where it doesn't exist?" (Pre-dated all the photo stories.)

And I agree with the jealousy thing and principles. I have/had a friend who droned on for years about how I was overpopulating the planet (I have two dcs, not 10!), how I was letting down womankind by giving up my career to be a SAHM etc etc. At 43 she had a child and of course no child has ever existed before this one.

redrubyshoes · 15/06/2012 12:22

Remember Patches and Blue Jeans and Misty?

Hullygully · 15/06/2012 12:25

and PINK

I loved PINK

What about Twinkle the Comic for Little Girls with Nurse Nancy and the Doll's Hospital?

comptoir · 15/06/2012 12:34

Growing up, we didn't have much at all but I have been a conservative all my life.
Now we do have a comfortable lifestyle, unsurprisingly I still am :)

comptoir · 15/06/2012 12:36

Ah sorry, didn't realised this had long evolved into a regulars' chat thread... that will teach me not to read the whole thing.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 15/06/2012 12:54

Elementary my dear comptoir Grin. You either have to catch a thread early, or not at all!

AbsofAwesomeness · 15/06/2012 13:07

Join in! What are you views on Wimpy? And pickles

I can't talk about magazines, as I was never allowed to buy them as a child

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 15/06/2012 13:09

The last Wimpy EVER recently shut in our town :( No longer can you eat burgers and chips off china plates with cutlery . It is now a Domino Pizza. Clarsy.

I have no views on pickles.

yellowraincoat · 15/06/2012 13:10

There are still wimpies (correct plural?) Ariel. Clapham junction wimpy eg.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 15/06/2012 13:13

Reeeeeeeally? I did not know that.

Then I have been misled.
