Do you have, or know anyone that does, principles that would absolutely not be ditched in the event of greater wealth?

I don't get this 'I'd only ever use the NHS' business.

My son has a chronic nasal condition which has caused him daily worries. It is affecting his sleep and his ability to talk clearly. It's not bad enough to get onto the NHS list at our local hospital, according to my GP, who suggests we just go private.

Are people on this thread saying I should NOT have my son treated because it can't be done on the NHS? Or that my very ill 81-year-old father should not have been treated promptly for a heart condition, rather than waiting three months, by which time he could well have died?

How can it be unethical not to have your nearest and dearest treated promptly and just wait until the NHS gets round to looking after them?

Abra1d · 15/06/2012 13:19

How can it be nethical to have your nearest and dearest treated promptly, I should have written.

noddyholder · 15/06/2012 13:24

There is a wimpy near my mum and it is old school sit down and we can never resist it when we go there.

noddyholder · 15/06/2012 13:25

look so old fashioned with tiny cups of frothy coffee in clear glass cups!

ExitPursuedByABear · 15/06/2012 13:25

Yes Ariel - they even a Best Wimpy Award apparently.

The Wimpy in Oldham shut ages ago - there is a message there somewhere.

I used to get Judy when I was a girl.

Hully I did once having a bizarre falling out with my 'best' friend and we didn't speak for 18 months. I missed her so much and we did eventually make up. BUT - during our estrangement she had finally left the bastard she was living with, bought another house and started a relationship with a lovely bloke to whom she is now engaged. I firmly believe that if it were not for our fallling out she would not have left the bastard. All the angst she suffered was expunged during our weekly drunken session. She used me as the sounding board for all her problems and then went back home feeling calm. When she no longer had me as an escape valve the pressure built up until it went pop.

Maybe a period of absence may help your friend to sort out her princicples/attitude/whatever.

Just a thought.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 15/06/2012 13:25

I am concened now about my lack of Wimpy knowledge. Why did I think they had all closed down and that ours was the last? It made me look like a twat.

ExitPursuedByABear · 15/06/2012 13:31

Nah - no one noticed Ariel. Honest.

gramercy · 15/06/2012 13:39

Gosh - I love that Peacehaven Wimpy. I think I shall go to Peacehaven for my hols.

Anyone remember The Golden Egg? Never went in one - I presume they're defunct now.

EdgarAllenPimms · 15/06/2012 13:40

you don't have to formally 'sack' a friend...has she sacked you though?

did she do a Sir Alan?

SpringHeeledJack · 15/06/2012 13:40

comptoir I don't know t'others on this thread from a can of paint

I can, however, be in a wimpy inside of ten minutes

[smug]

SpringHeeledJack · 15/06/2012 13:45

oh you doooo so have to sack a friend, Edgar

to just melt away is rude

EdgarAllenPimms · 15/06/2012 13:48

but a little time away and she might just feel different...or a less close friendship might be easier... just letting things slide to a natural level could be less painful than pointing the finger....

EdgarAllenPimms · 15/06/2012 13:49

abraid i would agree with you.

however i suppose if you had always maintained you wouldn't, then did, would it be ok for someone to feel differently towards you?

Hullygully · 15/06/2012 13:53

I am seeing her (and others) tonight. That'll be fun.

And not one bit awkward.

Gird your loins Hull. Go out with the best of intentions

then get ratfaced and bring out the pickle sandwich.

Tell her it is from all of us.

TuftyFinch · 15/06/2012 14:03

Noddy I'm not too far from that Wimpy. Maybe I'll really push the boundaries of luxury and take DC for a treat over the weekend.

TuftyFinch · 15/06/2012 14:04

Take a loaf and a jar of Branston. One might not be enough.

yellowraincoat · 15/06/2012 14:09

Abra1d No-one is saying you should do anything.

In principle, I am against private healthcare. I think that the NHS should be good enough that everyone gets excellent treatment. In practise, the NHS isn't good enough so some people, if they have the money, choose to go private. I have no issue with that, and do it myself.

Ruh-eally, there's no need to get snippy, this is a thread of light and love. Have a pickle sandwich in your face.

Hullygully · 15/06/2012 14:13

I will I'll sandwich her for all of us

Can you imagine?

It would be a bit marvellous

It is tempting

OMG, I can't believe that other people remember Twinkle and Pink. I thought it was just me. I loved Twinkle - why don't they do comics like that for little girls any more?

As for Jackie, I still haven't got over the shock of discovering as an adult that Cathy and Claire didn't exist - they were just pseudonyms for whoever in the office was doing the advice column at the time.

hackmum · 15/06/2012 14:32

Also, have to laugh at Hully's DH. My DP has very low tolerance indeed for listening to any of my personal problems related to friendships, work or indeed anything else. Even if I try and summarise it in two sentences, he sits there with a pained expression on his face. And then changes the subject.

SpringHeeledJack · 15/06/2012 14:36

stuff all this iddle class shilly shallying

I think you should take the South London Approach

ie get pissed, then shout OI! WOSS YOUR PROBLEM THEN?
