To get rid of my fucking horrible cat? (long - sorry)

ilovedarthmaul · 08/06/2012 15:23

She is a house cat that goes in the garden sometimes and we got her from the cats protection league 8 years ago. She has NEVER wanted fuss/strokes etc - she wont come near anyone (well she does a bit with me but i suspect thats only cos i feed her!) At first we thought it was because she is settling in but she has never got any better. Over the last 8 years she has systematically DESTROYED our house.

She pisses EVERYWHERE - she wont go on a litter tray at all (we have tried everything we can think of) - she scratches the walls/lead off the doors - even when the doors are fucking open! and rips the carpet to bits. Ive come in today from work and she has pissed on the settee - ive washed the cushion covers but its sunk into the hard/foam bottom bits - im soooo fucking mad - i cant afford new cushions or settee but dont know what i can do to get it out. If there are DC teddies/soft toys on the floor she pisses on those so they have to be thrown away - if i have folded washing up and put it on the arm of the chair/bottom of the stairs she will piss on that too. She climbed onto our dining table the other day & pissed on that as well. - Where we eat!!!!!

i should point out that we have had her checked by the vets and she hasnt got anything wrong with her (cystitus/water infection etc) and her litter tray is ALWAYS clean. I try & put her out in the garden as much as possible but she was attacked by next doors dog last year so i daren't leaver her out whilst im at work.

i feel like crying - im terrified that our house STINKS and we are used to it.

Im not an animal hater - so please dont flame me - i just get no joy out of her & a shit-load of stress and work!

I dont even know if anyone will take an incontinent, grumpy, horrible cat anyway but if they would would i be being unreasonable?

thanks for listening - feel slightly better after my rant!

am off to pick DC up now & think about how i can get the smell of cat-piss out of my sofa!

Darth x

I've just seen this ,signed up today and had to comment . I mentioned I knew it was old.

So what exactly did you think you would acheive by reviving a 5 year old thread??

You don't know if the OP even posts on the site any more.

🐱 is probably long dead.

Even if she does read it, do you think OP is going to jump in her tardis and magic herself back to 2012?

Hmm
DavetheCat2001 · 25/02/2017 19:20

wow that's impressive thumbwitch Grin

paddypants13 · 25/02/2017 19:22

My neighbour had the same situation with her cat (she even pissed in the toaster.) and took the decision to have the cat pts.

I don't think I could do it but I can see why you are at the end of your tether.

Have you tried a behaviourist, your vet should be able to recommend one? If possible, I would also build a run so she can safely go outdoors.

BertieBotts · 25/02/2017 19:26

You know, Belle, there's a whole section for posts about cats. If you go on there you can dispense advice to your heart's content and nobody will mock you since the people posting now are looking for advice now and hence it might be better received?

I know you're probably new to web forums so here's a link: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/the_litter_tray

ImSoPretty · 25/02/2017 19:28

THIS WNS CRAZIEST THREAD OF THE DAY!!!!!

Belle2828 · 25/02/2017 19:41

Thanks Bertie,I did know it was an old post but I thought months rather than years.I am new to posting and actually went on looking for support regarding my son.

BertieBotts · 25/02/2017 19:55

For future reference if you click on "Active" you'll (normally) get threads which are recent :) And if you click on "Topics" at the top you can find all the different sections with the most recent posts or to start your own thread.

Don't take the lighthearted teasing to heart :)

Pinbasket · 25/02/2017 20:01

I'm a cat lover, but really you've gone above and beyond here! I don't think it's fair to rehome it to another family where it would live indoors and the problems would persist. Maybe try rehoming to a farm if possible, where it would live outside, or consider having it put down

Belle2828 · 25/02/2017 20:01

Thank you,I really appreciate that...
I will try not to.

aspen34 · 25/02/2017 20:08

And we'll try not to take being called animal haters and fat and greedy to heart. Wink

That results in what is known as a deleted post (as above). Mumsnet usually put a nice little link to the talk guidelines in it, too.

ImSoPretty · 25/02/2017 20:13

Bertie Sincere condolences about your DS. There's lot of help and support on the bereavement section.

Hopefully we can all make up now Smile

ghostyslovesheets · 25/02/2017 20:39

ahhh it happens - don't feel bad - just join in - this can be a very supportive place x

I like the litter tray - I have five of the buggers!

I'm sorry for your loss Flowers

ALemonyPea · 25/02/2017 20:53

Sorry for your loss Belle 💐💐

Lots of support on other threads, just don't be resurrecting the zombie ones 😉

Belle2828 · 25/02/2017 21:33

Thanks appreciate it ghost and lemony.
I won't don't worry!

user1494698159 · 09/08/2017 16:25

My cat seems to have taken a dislike to the children I care for and if approached by them he will Nip or scratch. Being a child minder I can't have this situation due to potential clients dropping me for the safety of their children. How can I re home him ??

Timefortea99 · 09/08/2017 16:27

I am very gooey about dogs and cats. But seriously, I would have rehomed a long time ago. Sounds like 8 years of misery. Your family must be saintly.

Timefortea99 · 09/08/2017 16:28

Zombie thread! Gah.

NoKidsTwoCats · 09/08/2017 18:35

Vet is always the first thing to try - when you went to the vet did you explain exactly what was happening? Have you been back for bloods and urine samples directly from the bladder? Have you noticed any other issues such as her being a bit slow moving around? Make sure to tell the vet about any unusual or new behaviours, however small they seem. You don't say how old she is but it could even be something as seemingly unrelated as arthritis meaning getting in and out of the tray is uncomfortable so she's going elsewhere. Worth persevering.

Once health reasons have been fully ruled out it's time to try the behaviour route. Your vet should be able to refer you to a behaviourist or try www.apbc.org.uk. She's not being horrible and please don't tell her off - if she's peeing everywhere it means something's wrong.

Cats Protection has some really good general advice at: meowblog.cats.org.uk/2015/09/behaviour-focus-litter-trays.html

Clean up any smells with a 10% solution of biological washing powder and then rinse with fresh water. This will get rid of the underlying smell - if there's any scent remaining your cat will keep going to the toilet in that spot.

For the scratching issue, it goes without saying to make sure she's got plenty of suitable (non-furniture) places to scratch. Try horizontal posts (some cats are horizontal scratchers) and any vertical posts should be tall enough for her to stretch up fully, and solid enough that they won't fall over. Loads more advice here:

Please persevere with her - it might feel like she's being horrible or naughty but she's really not :)

Marymoosmum14 · 09/08/2017 18:59

It sounds to me like she is stressed and doesn't actually feel safe.

CheshireChat · 09/08/2017 20:05

user1494698159 Start your own thread, don't resurrect this one again!.

Lock the cat outside/ in another room, I expect a lot of cats would be irritated by lots of children.

HotelEuphoria · 09/08/2017 20:13

YANBU, I am a massive cat lover, have three and gave had 8 over 30 years, all but one who have lived until late teens or early 20s, but one of mine us like this. Has always been nasty, doesn't like any affection, bites, just wants to be left alone. This is fine most of the time but now at 15 she has taken to shitting all over the house. Not just floors but on the beds, the sofa, rugs etc and I'm done. She was a stray and I gave given her 11 years of good food, shelter, love and £100s on veterinary care and got absolutely nothing back.

I couldn't rehome he, no one will gave her, so I am guiltily willing her last days away.

HotelEuphoria · 09/08/2017 20:14

*have not gave. My iPad changes the word all the time!

CheshireChat · 09/08/2017 20:32

It's a ZOMBIE THREAD everyone.

Resurrected twice in fact.
