To get rid of my fucking horrible cat? (long - sorry)

She is a house cat that goes in the garden sometimes and we got her from the cats protection league 8 years ago. She has NEVER wanted fuss/strokes etc - she wont come near anyone (well she does a bit with me but i suspect thats only cos i feed her!) At first we thought it was because she is settling in but she has never got any better. Over the last 8 years she has systematically DESTROYED our house.

She pisses EVERYWHERE - she wont go on a litter tray at all (we have tried everything we can think of) - she scratches the walls/lead off the doors - even when the doors are fucking open! and rips the carpet to bits. Ive come in today from work and she has pissed on the settee - ive washed the cushion covers but its sunk into the hard/foam bottom bits - im soooo fucking mad - i cant afford new cushions or settee but dont know what i can do to get it out. If there are DC teddies/soft toys on the floor she pisses on those so they have to be thrown away - if i have folded washing up and put it on the arm of the chair/bottom of the stairs she will piss on that too. She climbed onto our dining table the other day & pissed on that as well. - Where we eat!!!!!

i should point out that we have had her checked by the vets and she hasnt got anything wrong with her (cystitus/water infection etc) and her litter tray is ALWAYS clean. I try & put her out in the garden as much as possible but she was attacked by next doors dog last year so i daren't leaver her out whilst im at work.

i feel like crying - im terrified that our house STINKS and we are used to it.

Im not an animal hater - so please dont flame me - i just get no joy out of her & a shit-load of stress and work!

I dont even know if anyone will take an incontinent, grumpy, horrible cat anyway but if they would would i be being unreasonable?

thanks for listening - feel slightly better after my rant!

am off to pick DC up now & think about how i can get the smell of cat-piss out of my sofa!

I know this is old, but I wanted to let you know I sympathize. I'm looking into options to get rid of my cat. I've had her for ten years, her entire life, we've been to vet after vet, blood panel after blood panel, test after test. No medical reasons for her to pee on everything. No type of litter box routine stops it (more boxes, less boxes, different types of litter - including that Cat Attract, cleaning more). Feliway doesn't help, anti-anxiety meds don't help, Feliway doesn't help, enzyme-removing cleaners don't help. We have three cat trees and we play with her. There's been no reason we can find/resolve.

She pees on furniture, in shoes, on the floor, on beds, on blankets, on clothes, on people while they're asleep, on bags, every imaginable thing, she pees on it. And it's not like she doesn't know how to use a litter-box. She pees in that too, it's just not something she will do exclusively. We tried making a cat run on our balcony and keeping her there except for when we were home to supervise her, but she was too loud at night for the neighbors.

And we've kept her through all of it. And under normal circumstances, we'd probably just put up with it til she died of old age or needed to be euthanized for terminal medical reasons. But, two of us are under-employed and one of us is likely to lose their job because their company has been sold. I've got a plan to avoid homelessness, but it involves moving out of the country for a job. The family is willing to care for one cat, but not the above.

So now I'm trying to find a sanctuary or other option now, but I know given her behavior, it's very unlikely anyone will take her. It's a shame because she is sweet and cuddly and adoring and smart... But we're living in an apartment with no furniture except for in the bedrooms and all the doors closed. If we had an actual house with a backyard I'd try a big cat run, but we live in an apartment. And it'd be really cruel to make her live as an indoor/outdoor cat around here, due to predators. I'm trying to figure out humane alternatives.

Belle2828 · 25/02/2017 16:45

My advise to you is simple...DO NOT GET ANY MORE PETS. You were in no position to rescue a cat and then expect it to behave how you wanted it to.This cat had already obviously been through the mill and you re homed it .Did you find out its history. This cat is obviously highly stressed and your reaction to her display of stress is making it worse. If you need affection and validation don't expect it from a rescue cat or any cat or any pet for that matter get it else where. Cats give affection on their terms and it's the more valuable because of it. Do not blame this cat for your ignorance and please don't get any more pets because the way you speak about her shows you have lost patience with her displays of distress and this only made the situation worse.I know this is an old thread but I hope this cat has now found an understanding feline savvy owner who cares more about her responsibility as a loving owner than a bit of piss on her carpet which would have been solved if the cats issues had been met. Finally for the sake of all pets particularly cats and those that have already had a tough time I hope you don't now have any more pets or ever will and your house can smell as sweet as you wish......

ALemonyPea · 25/02/2017 16:46

Hmm why have you bumped a five year old thread? The cat is probably long gone by now.

BertieBotts · 25/02/2017 16:48

The poor cat has probably died by now! Why don't people look at the dates??

Belle2828 · 25/02/2017 16:57

I've just seen this ,signed up today and had to comment . I mentioned I knew it was old .

ALemonyPea · 25/02/2017 17:08

That's fair and well, but really, there is nothing gained from commenting on such an old thread. It just annoys people when they spend time reading, commenting then realise it's years old.

Paddington68 · 25/02/2017 17:09

Get rid of it.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 25/02/2017 17:12

But what on earth is the point in going off on a rant to an owner who posted 5 years ago? Said owner may not even still BE on this site!

TinfoilHattie · 25/02/2017 17:24

Mad cat ladies who resurrect 5 year old threads to have a rant at an owner who isn't reading any more... that's sane behaviour.

ImSoPretty · 25/02/2017 17:25

What is the point of Belle's over the top rant? Apart from the fact the situtions long resolved by now, , the ranting in itself doesn't make any sense. Completely ignored most of the points OP made, and other points OP made were misunderstood or over exaggerated.

GallicosCats · 25/02/2017 17:30

ZOMBIE THREAD

RedDogsBeg · 25/02/2017 17:32

There is no point to Belle's rant, it is just someone who has such an over-inflated opinion of their own superiority that they just had to comment on a five year old thread despite the fact that most of their ill-timed and ill-judged rant was covered in the previous 150 odd comments.

aspen34 · 25/02/2017 17:34

So you've ruled out anything pysical with the vet. Can you afford the services of an animal behaviourist? Breeder friend has retrained a cat to the litter tray using a large dog crate, but I don't know the details, obviously it's very temporary and I think the limited space is supposed to encourage them. nd to try a felway diffuser in addition.

What breed of cat is it?
Alternatively you could purchase an attached run, or cat proof the garden (there are companies who can do this, install special fences) and provide cat flap.

Just throwing up a few ideas. I do sympathise It is recommended cleaning areas with biological washing powder and surgical spirit (I think I recall) so that they don't return to the same spot. Bleach isn't recommended.

aspen34 · 25/02/2017 17:34

physical!

aspen34 · 25/02/2017 17:36

Christ! I wish I'd known it was a zombie thread before I typed.

Belle2828 · 25/02/2017 17:36

But if she is still on site hopefully she might think twice before getting another animal and that's the point of my post. Think what you like mad cat lady etc..my concern was her aquiring another animal and that's the bottom line.really ...mad cat lady, that must have took a lot of thought ...you are probably the type who leaves your dogs locked up in garden all day...

ghostyslovesheets · 25/02/2017 17:36

Mad Cat Lady Z~O~M~B~I~E alert

Questioningeverything · 25/02/2017 17:41

Lol at the zombie resurrection and subsequent bitching by the zombie cat thread lover. Belle... get a grip. Don't bring up five year old threads... things you ought to know with you being a newbie and all

theDudesmummy · 25/02/2017 17:41

My old cat was always a bit of a pisser, all her life, and when he got old it became intolerable. We tried everything and she would not stop, it was all over. What we then did was not allow her anywhere in the house except the kitchen and dining room (hard floors). But then she would manage somehow to direct the pee under the door onto the hall carpet beyond, which was constantly soaked in pee. And if you weren't watching her she would just piss anywhere. And she was an indoor-outdoor cat who always had a cat flap into the garden.

So, for the last couple of years of her life what we did was: at night and when we were out she had a fiberglass box, as big as a very large cat bed, attached to the inside of the cat flap, and she would have to be either in the garden or in there. It was lined with lambs wool and heated in the winter, so she was not uncomfortable. Basically it was that or euthanasia, and I was very attached to her.

theDudesmummy · 25/02/2017 17:42

Oh sorry did not realise this was a zombie thread!

aspen34 · 25/02/2017 17:44

you are probably the type who leaves your dogs locked up in garden all day...

Hmm

Do grow up. What was the point in posting to somebody from five years ago. What a stupid thing to do.

ZOMBIE THREAD

TheoriginalLEM · 25/02/2017 17:45

Cats probably dead by now Grin I am a "cat friendly" vet nurse and I would have been considering rehoming this cat!

randomer · 25/02/2017 17:47

get rid

randomer · 25/02/2017 17:47

oh you got rid

Rachyabbadabbadoo · 25/02/2017 17:48

I also had a naughty cat who pee'd everywhere. One thing that does get ride of the smell is biological washing powder or liquid, mixed with water. Apparently the enzymes break down the stuff in cat pee that causes the stink. However, that isn't solving the root cause of the problem but lots of advice already on here about that.
