To get rid of my fucking horrible cat? (long - sorry)

She is a house cat that goes in the garden sometimes and we got her from the cats protection league 8 years ago. She has NEVER wanted fuss/strokes etc - she wont come near anyone (well she does a bit with me but i suspect thats only cos i feed her!) At first we thought it was because she is settling in but she has never got any better. Over the last 8 years she has systematically DESTROYED our house.

She pisses EVERYWHERE - she wont go on a litter tray at all (we have tried everything we can think of) - she scratches the walls/lead off the doors - even when the doors are fucking open! and rips the carpet to bits. Ive come in today from work and she has pissed on the settee - ive washed the cushion covers but its sunk into the hard/foam bottom bits - im soooo fucking mad - i cant afford new cushions or settee but dont know what i can do to get it out. If there are DC teddies/soft toys on the floor she pisses on those so they have to be thrown away - if i have folded washing up and put it on the arm of the chair/bottom of the stairs she will piss on that too. She climbed onto our dining table the other day & pissed on that as well. - Where we eat!!!!!

i should point out that we have had her checked by the vets and she hasnt got anything wrong with her (cystitus/water infection etc) and her litter tray is ALWAYS clean. I try & put her out in the garden as much as possible but she was attacked by next doors dog last year so i daren't leaver her out whilst im at work.

i feel like crying - im terrified that our house STINKS and we are used to it.

Im not an animal hater - so please dont flame me - i just get no joy out of her & a shit-load of stress and work!

I dont even know if anyone will take an incontinent, grumpy, horrible cat anyway but if they would would i be being unreasonable?

thanks for listening - feel slightly better after my rant!

am off to pick DC up now & think about how i can get the smell of cat-piss out of my sofa!

Sometimes cats are not happy. It sounds as if she is really unhappy living with you. Cats are very sensitive so it could be anything and not your fault but I think you should consider rehoming her or putting her down, you cannot live like this and she sounds very unhappy. In the short term a run in the garden is an excellent idea.

GlitterGlassEye · 09/08/2017 23:27

Fucking hell. It's really annoying when ppl don't RTFT before putting their oar in. So many Zombie notifications.

The cat is probably gone people!!!

shannonxox · 21/05/2018 12:32

I need some advice, i bought a 8 week old kitten and now shes 10 weeks and gotten to the stage of biting i also have a 14 month old daughter and she doesnt understand yet but she hits the cat but obvs doesnt mean to cause she doesnt understand and tries to squeeze her, im not always in the house im always running around places so i havent got time to interact with the cat and have playing routines, im afraid she will scram my 14 month old, shes scratching at my doors, and on my walls in the kitchen, she was really good using her litter tray when she first got here and now if i let her around the living room even though her litter tray will be whereever she is she seems to take a poo behind my sofa and then sometimes on the kitchen floor what should i do? i want to rehome her to someone who will have a lot more time with her as im going back to college and wont be in the house etc

Clandestino · 21/05/2018 12:46

@shannonxox - please rehome. I would also suggest you post the thread into the LitterBox forum and don't try resurrecting zombie threads.
But please rehome, the kitten is clearly stressed out. Don't dump her, don't sell her on DoneDeal or give for free. Go to the RSPCa or a local charity and give her to them. She's got a better chance for a nice life. Cats can get really stressed out and lash out out of stress and fear.

GallicosCats · 21/05/2018 12:47

Shannon, start your own thread and stop resurrecting 6-year-old zombie ones, there's a dear.

starryflamingo · 21/05/2018 12:55

Op at the end of the day you aren't happy and she isn't happy. I'm normally the first to go off on one about lazy cunts who can't be bothered to look after animals and make the effort but you HAVE made the effort. 8 years of it. It isn't working and it's not for want of trying. CPL Will take her back any time, just be honest with them.

CheshireChat · 21/05/2018 13:38

What is it with this thread that makes it so tempting to resurrect?!

In fact, I'm gripping at the previous uhmm... Necromancer about 1year ago.

bsbabas · 21/05/2018 15:45

Cats are soo gross I'm never getting one

I bet the cats think the same about you. In fact, knowing cats, I am sure.

Lou0712 · 21/05/2018 15:56

It seems to me like she is bored. Do you leave toys for her? Treat balls?
I definitely think a constant access to the garden would help. If she got attacked before I doubt she would be foolish enough to go into that garden again. Could you get a cat flap?
Also have you tried Feliway?
My cat sprays a lot for no reason and it is HORRIBLE! Since I started using the Feliway plug ins, he is so much better!
It would be so sad to rehome her after her being a part of your family for so long but it does sound like she is just as unhappy as you so perhaps taking her to BDCH or RSPCA where they can find her a suitable home would be best for both of you.

It's a shame, but when you think about the fact that there are people-friendly, adorable, sweet and gentle cats being lethally injected every day due to the lack of a home then it puts a different perspective on things.

Drop Madam off at a farmhouse and give a home to one of those kitties instead.

Used to have a cat who, when we first got him and weren't able to let him put for a few weeks, used to wee in the house because he was so unhappy as he really wanted to go out. Cat flap installed and he was happy as Larry, no more weeing.

It sounds like the cat is desperately unhappy and dog or no dog, she should be allowed out. You might just need to trust that she is clever enough to steer clear of the dog. She might also simply not like your household, some cats aren't good with children and get stressed. I understand that the situation must be horrible for you but it must be equally horrible for the cat. If going outside doesn't work it might be beat to try to get her adopted, in a family who doesn't have DC and lets her out?

Dontforgetyourtowel · 21/05/2018 17:51

Sh*t zombie, I've never fallen for that before :(
