to use bondage tape on dd and dsd?

Rachog · 05/06/2012 22:21

Dd and dsd both 4 are into the little mermaid at the moment. Dd found a Christmas stocking in the toy box and was wearing it like a fin.

This of course caused arguments because dsd wanted a fin too. I remembered that I had a roll of pink bondage tape in the grown up toy box so I used it to bind their legs from knee to ankle leaving their feet Aw flippers.

The girls were made up with their mermaid tails and had lots of fun but when dp came in he was less than impressed.

The tape is like punk plastic on a roll that sticks to itself but not clothes or skin. It's quite flexible and easily torn to remove it.

So was I being unreasonAble?

Well, being a bit vanilla, apparently, in the bedroom, I wasn't aware what bondage tape actually was.

I was thinking it was like duct tape and, therefore, excellent for taping a child into their seat at dinner. My very very nearly 3 year old (2 years, 11 months, 3 weeks and 2 days) is having trouble sitting still at home. So I am thinking about taping him down.**

I thought perhaps the OP was joking about doing the same.

** I am not really thinking about taping him down.

youarekidding · 07/06/2012 14:38

and referring to the handcuffs incident. Surely if a child is innocently handcuffing an adult to something (my DS loves playing at being sheriff, policeman, jailer etc!) it is surely no different to an adult innocently playing the same role.

It's a sad world when even joking about " I'm going to stick you to that chair if you don't sit still" gets construed as child abuse.

IME children love games where they are tied to things and have to escape - it's all part of childhood and learning to problem solve so is actually good for them Grin

TantrumsAndBalloons · 07/06/2012 15:23

That's ok tea, as long as its not bondage tape :)

I'm joking ;)

Hi there,

We are all about free speech and discussion.

We see this thread as a lighthearted, interesting chat. We very much hope it remains that way.

Grin Thanks
Tee2072 · 07/06/2012 15:50

Ooh, soft shot across the bow from Sandy. Hmm

::hopes HQ appreciates my humour::

I think it's quite fitting that SandyMumsnet has S and M in her name.

That is all Grin

hi Sandy, it's certainly very interesting what people will attempt to explain away as "light hearted"

perceptionreality · 07/06/2012 16:13

Some people are being so silly about this. The use of the tape wasn't sexual - OP just made them a mermaids costume. Why are people talking about butt plugs fgs?

OP YANBU and if nosy teachers ask questions (which they won't) you would say you bought it in a craft shop. Dear me.....Agree entirely with those who say there are a million things that could be used in sex and also innocently. If something is a household object in many respects then it's fine to use as a costume.

VashtiBunyan · 07/06/2012 16:29

Perceptionreality, apparently they are talking about things like that because it is 'dark humour.'

garlicfanjo · 07/06/2012 16:39

VashtiBunyan, are you Dittany? Am getting Confused

AliceHurled · 07/06/2012 16:40

Yay bondage and kids! Sooo funny. Hmm This is grim.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 07/06/2012 16:41

Indeed, AF.

I'm not accusing anyone on this thread of being a hairy handed trucker, but I really feel quite uncomfortable about this thread. Not everyone reading this is going to be having "light hearted fun" with the subject matter. It's grim - and I'm no pearl-clutcher.

I have rarely seen eye to eye with dittany (sorry, dittany, although I'm sure you're not desperately upset to hear that!) but she's not being a loon here.

No GF, I'm not.

I don't know why you find this confusing.

I am not talking about the OP's posts at all.

Do you really think that it is that bizarre that some people don't think talking about inserting butt plugs into children is not light hearted or interesting? Or that using heavy duty tape to tie children to chairs isn't abuse? I know somebody whose sister was removed by social services because of the chair example.

How is this dark humour entertaining you? Do you want to explain?

Tee2072 · 07/06/2012 16:48

Hey, I have an idea. If the thread makes you uncomfortable and you don't find it funny? Hide it!

Tee2072 · 07/06/2012 16:49

So highchairs and car seats are now abusive?

Here's £5, go buy a grip.

Okay, go to your social worker or health visitor, and ask them if rather than buy high chair straps, or a car seat, or pushchair straps, it is okay if you tape them to bits of furniture with heavy duty tape, and see what kind of response you get.

Tee2072 · 07/06/2012 16:51

What's a no from me? Do I want to explain my sense of humour?

Sure.

Some people find dark humour funny. Some don't.

Here endeth the lesson.

VashtiBunyan · 07/06/2012 16:52

But if, on the other hand, you think it is perfectly normal, do you want to explain how it is then also 'dark humour' and entertaining?

Tee2072 · 07/06/2012 16:52

FFS You know what? I think I'll hide the thread instead.

And think a very bad name at you very loudly that I won't say, because I don't want to be deleted for a personal attack.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 07/06/2012 16:53

Who has claimed highchairs and carseats are abusive?

And no I won't hide this thread.

VashtiBunyan · 07/06/2012 16:55

Well I think that is the rule of MN, you can say anything like about anything, as long as you write afterwards that you wouldn't do that personally.

So feel free to call me anything you like, as long as your remember afterwards that they will not delete it as long as you make out it is just a joke.

Banter, I think they call this kind of thread. Humour without intelligence or ethics. Or basic humanity.
