Apparently Edinburgh is only council where kids have to go to school tomorrow..bonus, I say! No childcare hassles and DD gets to go to a party at school

CommunistMoon · 03/06/2012 10:09

Fanjo, I'm well placed to know how delusional your comments sound because I am actually Scottish (and a republican). I have lived in England very happily almost all my adult life and I would never move back. Horses for courses, though - if you enjoy endless rounds of wha's-like-us national smuggery, bad food, bad weather, miserable people, "I hate the fuckin English, oh no whit's wrang with ye, can't ye take a fuckin joke?" and watching Alex Salmond kissing up to HRH and various ex-pat celebrities who are also never coming back, it's just the place for you. Goodbye and enjoy your weekend complete with pointless local authority gesture 'cause being in Scottish makes us different, you know

pictish · 03/06/2012 10:23

What the hell is your problem communistmoon?

prettybird · 03/06/2012 10:39

Confused @ communistmoon Don't really understand what bee you have in your bonnet. Certainly doesn't seem to reflect the conversation here, including fanjo's contributions Hmm

Fanjo -FWIW, I agree with you!

Shenanagins · 03/06/2012 10:49

Wow CommunistMoon I don't know anyone like that up here, maybe it is representative of the company YOU keep.

prettybird · 03/06/2012 10:53

And for the record, although I'm not "born and bred" Scottish, I've been here since I was 3 so consider myself truly Scottish.

I lived in England for 10 years as an adult and only returned because I met dh who happened to also be from Glasgow.

I have never come across a "we hate the English" attitude in individuals (although I have come across English "we hate the scrounging Scots") - but I have come across a dislike ( which I feel myself) of English broadcasters (in particular the BBC) assuming that English=British. In particular, the xenophobia of English sports reporting and the constant desire to relate back to the English team, even when commentating a different game, is positively embarrassing and goes some way to explaining the ABE attitude of the Celtic nations.

Ds gets particularly pissed off at CBBC which changes programming for the English holidays but never even acknowledges that Scottish school are off. The fact their main presenter Iain is Scottish somehow makes this even more culpable. It has contributed to him becoming an 11 year old Scottish Nationalist! Wink

FanjoForHerMajesty · 03/06/2012 11:14

Communistmoon, don't pick me as a scapegoat for your twisted bitterness thanks!

Got to laugh at you posting about people being miserable here, you sound like a right barrel of laughs eh!

FanjoForHerMajesty · 03/06/2012 11:16

And..do you want salt and sauce for that enormous CHIP ON YOUR SHOULDER?Wink

prettybird · 03/06/2012 11:18

Hope you're having a cheerful weekend Fanjo SmileSmile

FanjoForHerMajesty · 03/06/2012 11:21

Hope you are too :)

Winterdyke · 03/06/2012 11:23

FayeGovan · 03/06/2012 17:10

redlac · 03/06/2012 17:28

Stirling schools are in tomorrow but off on Tuesday

SleepyFergus · 03/06/2012 17:32

CommunistMoon - if that's your attitude, then I'm glad you don't want to come back to Scotland! Think we're much better off without you you miserable cow

FanjoForHerMajesty · 03/06/2012 17:55

Redlac , ah, it said in Edinburgh Evening News it was only Edinburgh schools, should have known it wasn't true!

Winterdyke · 03/06/2012 22:15

No I don't know her Faye, she knows me though cos I'm such a hater Grin

AmIthatbad · 04/06/2012 00:26

Fanjo - Perth schools are in too

And FWIW I have never even felt a dislike for the English. We have so many here that I no longer really notice whether friends/neighbours/workmates are English or Scottish. Or Irish, Polish or anything else, for that matter

truthisoutthere · 04/06/2012 07:06

I had no idea that a lot of Scots had problems with the English until i went there. My PiL went to England once, but drove home on the same day as he 'couldn't abide it'. However, at the last Jubilee he had a photo taken with his wife holding a picture of the Queen so obviously a fan of the Royals.

(One of my sister in laws is 'radicalised' and vehemently hates the English. Very vocally, and is always questioning how we can live here etc. It's verrily mad.)

StuntGirl · 04/06/2012 10:16

Came on to post in indignation at the Scot/English hate but then saw the bit about Irn Bru cake icing...how have I come this far in my life without knowing about this?! Puremince can you give me the recipe? Please??!!

lattelov3r · 04/06/2012 12:07

i find CM post rather offensive tbh and the fact you are Scottish is neither hear nor there and certainly dosnt give you a right to speak so negatively about Scotland

TheSurgeonsMate · 05/06/2012 14:56

My full size jar of moffee toffee has arrived! Says Jan '13 on the side, so that gives plenty of time to get through them. I think I need a portion control plan, though. It's a lot of sweetie.

FayeGovan · 05/06/2012 22:38

just seen this post in active threads

"I'm not really a fan of the Royal family, but I do feel they define England and give it a USP it would otherwise not have to the rest of the world"

wonder why most of us can't be arsed with the jubilee...Hmm

AmIthatbad · 06/06/2012 00:02

Faye I saw and commented. Sad thing is, some people cannot see anything wrong in what they say.

Puremince · 06/06/2012 12:36

I was in Next and Paperchase yesterday and saw that they both had stuff with "London" all over it. I could imagine buying the DCs a Tee shirt with a red bus and "London" on it if I was visiting London, but why would anyone buy that in Dundee? I wouldn't buy a T-shirt of "Edinburgh" in Dundee, so why do Next think I'd buy a "London" one? Do they think that London / red buses / underground maps / Big Ben somehow exemplify "Britishness" ?

tittytittyhanghang · 06/06/2012 12:54

Puremince, i was in H&M the other day and saw little boys tops with English flags and England blazoned all over it (wasn't official football logo). Thought it was a bit odd!
