so I know whether I value your opinion on any given topic, or whether I will just humour you

I am working class, just so you know. Although 'I pass' for MC, so I may be moving amongst you undetected. be afraid

But how do you decide?Confused I grew up on a London council estate but have a sister who is, apparently, Upper Middle Class.

My ILs are most definitely MC, woe betide anyone who dares to imply otherwise, but OH wants a huge TV, which I'm resisting. My books take up valuable TV wall space you see, no space for tacky TV

StepOutOfSpring · 29/05/2012 18:16

I'm both :o

monkeymamma · 29/05/2012 18:19

Hm, I have a massive telly so maybe WC. But my house is not clean enough so must be MC :-D
Great thread from Bejeezus who must be congratulated on coining two new acronyms for MN use.

dashoflime · 29/05/2012 18:29

WC here :)

Hmm to the people who think class doesn't matter. We are in a period of historically low social mobility and increasing inequality. How could it not matter?

Also fish tanks are chavvy?! What have the MC got against fish tanks? Fish are brilliant!

I'm going to go watch my lovely calming fish right now...
yeah, look at them all swimming around, what do you reckon they're thinking eh? pretty fish..... :) :) :)

Birdsgottafly · 29/05/2012 18:37

WC and wouldn't want to be anyother.

It depends on how politically/socially aware you are, whether you think, or rather know that it's relevent.

Mrsjay · 29/05/2012 18:37

nah i like the mystique of it all you are going to have to guess if im good enough to respond too Grin

Mrsjay · 29/05/2012 18:39

are fish tanks not good then cory I love mine

summerintherosegarden · 29/05/2012 18:40

Good point bejeezus. Does this then mean that (a) the WC will over time effectively cease to exist, as ever increasing numbers of jobs become automated/moved abroad; or (b) we need to redefine WC to fit in with the current landscape. MC seems to me to now encompass an extraordinarily broad range of salaries, lifestyles, viewpoints, etc...
(or of course c - none of the above! Just musing here...)

Mrsjay · 29/05/2012 18:43

I was called a snobby cow at school why because my mum ironed my shirts and i said please and thank you and didnt try and terrorise teachers i was classed as a posh girl at my state school , yet my mum worked in pub and dad down pit

dashoflime · 29/05/2012 18:46

WIBU to try and provoke a board war with Fishnet? Those declasse wankers.

vixsatis · 29/05/2012 18:50

Mumsnet= MC
Netmums=WC

Mrsjay · 29/05/2012 18:52

i have used both netmums and mumsnet Hmm

Starfishkiss · 29/05/2012 18:52

Aaaaarrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhh

AdoraBell · 29/05/2012 18:53

Ooh, MrsJay

I was also posh, because I said "th" in words like "think" instead of fink. Father worked in the post office, mother was a cleaner. Old car, but we used buses, holidays- 1 per year-were always camping in Britain.

Latara · 29/05/2012 18:58

I am WC but i can be whatever you want me to be!! :)

Actually a WC is a toilet so maybe there's a better abbreviation?
& MCs accompany DJs.

FrothyOM · 29/05/2012 19:01

I'm mixed class. Wink

Mrsjay · 29/05/2012 19:03

Adorabell our school was so rough they confused manners for poshness ?

scottishmummy · 29/05/2012 19:03

I'm too posh to push
all caesarian deliveries
no common grunt or push for me. I'm more slash and dash

LynetteScavo · 29/05/2012 19:09

MC.

Because I was brought up MC.

I married someone who was brought up WC.

TBH I have no idea what we are now. I can't even judge from our neighbors.Confused

Mrsjay · 29/05/2012 19:12

Grin no common grunting !

LynetteScavo · 29/05/2012 19:13

Now...fish tanks......like so many things....they are either WC, or very chic and posh. MC only have a couple of goldfish for the DC.

I was thinking about the Queen and her corgis today. If she weren't upper class, having corgis and a scarf over your head would be working class. Confused

Mrsjay · 29/05/2012 19:14

I have tropical fish they are pretty i guess that makes us common Grin
