so I know whether I value your opinion on any given topic, or whether I will just humour you

I am working class, just so you know. Although 'I pass' for MC, so I may be moving amongst you undetected. be afraid

My tv is teeny tiny. This helps to also prove I am now posh.

LST · 29/05/2012 12:40

*their Blush

Belleflowers · 29/05/2012 12:41

what a bizarre thought. I don't give a monkeys what class anyone is tbh.

storminabuttercup · 29/05/2012 12:42

I'm definitely working class.

I'm also very content being working class.

I also don't see why it matters.

Confused
letseatgrandma · 29/05/2012 12:42

I know we don't like tickers and stuff on here (too reminiscent of that other website) but so that you can tell instantly whether or not to agree with a poster, there is obviously a need for something underneath each and every post to make a few of the following things clear: working v middle class; type of school DCs attend; working or non-working mother; supermarket preference; number of items of Boden in wardrobe; and of course, most vitally, favourite biscuit.

and, of course, telly size (in inches).

Noqontrol · 29/05/2012 12:45

That would make things clearer letseatgrandma Grin

nightswimmer · 29/05/2012 12:53

never mind the class thing, sometimes I'm interested to know whether people are men or women, just recently there was some thread asking people to describe their pubic hair, execept there was some other slang word for it which I can't remember, because I'm too genteel, but I still thought, this could easily be some guy getting off on all this.

bejeezusWC · 29/05/2012 12:56

yes expat that is definitely what we need, and grandma!

I find it bizarre, that people find it bizarre that class does define some people to a greater or lesser extent

It has shaped who I am

IME Class is held dear by WC people. MC people often say they dont know/care

OP posts:
Bunbaker · 29/05/2012 12:57

"Neither, I disagree that people should be sterotyped into brackets of class."

I agree. I live in Yorkshire and have a South London accent, so everyone thinks I am posh. I'm not I just wasn't born here.

bejeezusWC · 29/05/2012 12:57

blather its a thread about multiple threads--its a bit of a theme at the minute isnt it?

(very very low..)

TandB · 29/05/2012 12:57

Good idea.

Kungfupannda - mainly working mum to two little buggers little buggers, fed on Sainsbury/Asda/Tesco frozen food, heading for state primary schools but possibly private secondary. Owner of one Boden item with tags still on and heading for Ebay. Lover of chocolate Bourbons.

bejeezusWC · 29/05/2012 12:58

Eugh nightswimmer i missed that!!

what was the purpose of describing, was it 'lady-garden'?

OP posts:
LST · 29/05/2012 12:59

I don't give too hoots what class people are..

Bunbaker · 29/05/2012 13:01

"MC people often say they dont know/care"

Probably because they are sneered at a lot (unjustifiably IMO). People can't help the background they were born into. My dad was very much working class, my mum wasn't.

I imagine that other people would consider me middle class. There is also a lot of inverse snobbery around where many MC people like to say they are WC - probably due to the nastiness that is sometimes directed at them. Jealousy perhaps?

Alameda · 29/05/2012 13:02

I am underclass, am I actually allowed here?

exexpat · 29/05/2012 13:04

Alameda - that depends: what sort of biscuits do you eat?

Noqontrol · 29/05/2012 13:04

Ooh, I noticed you changed your name bejezus. I've changed my mind, I don't like it. It suddenly flashed into my head the Jewish being forced to wear yellow stars to identify themselves.

can't even remember the last time I had a biscuit, I think I like savoury ones - those nairn oatcakes are quite nice? or a sort of water biscuit, carrs? or those duchy original ones that are sort of oily

gabsid · 29/05/2012 13:07

Now how do you define the classes?

I am a foreigner.
Used to have professional career, but work 1 day per week now.
Parents had a skilled trade.
House always a bit clattered with books and toys all over the floor, not dirty though.
We shop at Tesco, Lidls, Asda and Morrisons.
We all wear odd socks.
DS (7) has Boden PJs (from the sale) and that's when I found out about that shop - otherwise he only wears his 2 favourite Starwars T-shirts.
DD (3) also wears her dresses back to front and sometimes tights on her head.
DC go to the local village school and we value education.

I don't really want to put myself in a box but I am sure others do judge and make assumptions.

Solo · 29/05/2012 13:08

I've been called middle class (was a bit of a surprise to me!), so I'd say I'm the same as you OP.

WitchOfEndor · 29/05/2012 13:08

I'm UC, this is all very infra dig

not

gabsid · 29/05/2012 13:09

I hate it too; it came up on the thread

BenderBendingRodriguez · 29/05/2012 13:13

Honestly, I don't know. I mean, I like value custard creams and M&S Florentines. How can these things co-exist?
