To not have sex with my partner

WhiteWidow · 27/05/2012 17:19

Because yet again I have the most horrific shaving rash! He says he doesn't mind but I do... Now I feel silly Blush

While we're here does anyone else suffer from the BURN and HORRID ingrown hairs? How do you prevent them.. I'm sick to death.

I wish I could just go all european and not do hair removal but it makes me itchy thinking about it.

Hmmm, are boys taught to keep themselves clean? I honestly have no idea. I know I was never specifically taught - my parents were very hands-off about sex and my school was useless.

It's sort of a no-brainer though, isn't it?

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 22:30

There are hundreds of pointless products out there, for both sexes.

The feminine wipe products of people don't know they are rubbish might appeal. For example to clean up your foo when your having a period.

Men don't have the discharge or periods that women do. So there are bound to be less products.

I don't think there are millions of women going around thinking shit my foo is horrible and smells. Some do. Many don't.

yellowraincoat · 29/05/2012 22:31

I don't see it as a bad thing either (women being more bothered), but I wonder why it is that women are more bothered by how they smell and how they look.

Empusa · 29/05/2012 22:33

yellow From talking to male friends it would seem so. If not from school or parents, then they'd have heard their friends talking about smeg etc.

I'm willing to bet there are quite a few women out there who don't know that perfumed products cause thrush. Which is totally wrong. But unfortunately it's still considered more taboo for women to talk about their genitals than men. So much as you may not agree with shaving pubes, it does at least generate conversation about something which is usually seen as too shameful to talk about.

yellowraincoat · 29/05/2012 22:33

But that doesn't explain vaginal deodorant. So you wipe it and then you SPRAY it? What the hell is that about?

In the words of Sarah Silverman, if you notice a rancid odour, don't spray perfume on it, that's crazy. Go to a doctor.

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 22:36

Yellow i think we'd have to go back in time a long long way to know why. I don't know why, I'm not sure I want to know why. I just know that we are more bothered (generalising again) and I'm glad because I enjoy pampering things and all the daft little things they sell for us women.

Sarah Silverman is right in that statement. Although I still can't stand the annoying pleb.

OP posts:
WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 22:36

It is stupid. Agree fanny deodorant is stupid. Three days and we agree on something! Grin

Empusa · 29/05/2012 22:39

You'd think that was obvious wouldn't you? But given how many people I've known who think normal deodorant is a suitable substitute for actual washing, it's not actually all that surprising.

yellowraincoat · 29/05/2012 22:41

Argh, Empusa, for the final time I DO NOT DISAGREE WITH WOMEN SHAVING THEIR PUBES. Stop misrepresenting me, it is SO frustrating.

yellowraincoat · 29/05/2012 22:42

Maybe you don't want to know why, widow, but there are reasons and some of us are interested in them.

Empusa · 29/05/2012 22:42

Sorry, so many posters on the thread I kind of lost track of who said what.

mathanxiety · 29/05/2012 22:45

There's obviously a market for this stuff in the first place otherwise they wouldn't make it. They don't make things on a whim, just in case it catches on and becomes a SN.

That is absolutely not the way it works. Look at the ad for the germicidal douche. The trick is to invest a problem and then sell the solution. That is what has made multi billion pound industries out of cosmetics and douches and a lot of other personal care products.

'All those sorts of things are grooming oneself and we do it because it's normal to don't we..'
You do it because you feel it is a social norm and it is a social norm because of internet porn. Women in Victorian times didn't shave their legs or pits, or wear makeup, unless they wanted to be called prostitutes (and therefore unmarryable).
When you include removal of pubic hair under the category of grooming and assert it is a 'normal' part of grooming then you really are saying that anyone who doesn't do it is ungroomed just as anyone who doesn't brush their hair is ungroomed. fwiw, I haven't brushed my hair for years as it is extremely curly, but 'ungroomed' is not an adjective anyone has ever applied to me.

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 22:45

Maybe you should show your interest in different ways yellow. You got quite a few backs up in the way you did in this topic :)

oy doesn't itch if you are hairy, it itches of you shave

FioFio · 29/05/2012 22:48

whitewoman, are you actually miriam stoppard?

the tone to your posts.....

mathanxiety · 29/05/2012 22:48

'There are fanny wipes on sale because it is a medical fact that women are more susceptible to infections, thrush, cystitis etc than men.'
Infections are more likely to be caused or aggravated by exposure to the multitude of chemicals in wipes, sprays, bubble baths, etc, than cured. The best way to prevent infections is to wipe front to back with ordinary tp.

Preventing UTIs
-Maintain a high level of fluid intake every day. Drink a lot of water and drink tea, diluted juice (in moderation and preferably not daily with the exception of the cranberry juice as outlined above), and other healthy drinks. Avoid sugary drinks or highly caffeinated drinks (that is, the dosed-up energy drinks).
-Eat a healthy diet. The more antioxidant-rich and nutrient-rich your diet, the greater chance you give your body of defending itself against infections.
Stay active. Do something physically active daily, to help your immune system stay in good shape and to maintain your general well-being.
-Be very careful with hygiene. Take showers instead of baths. Wash your genital area daily with care and don't use any soaps, gels, lotions, etc. that can aggravate the area or bring about infection. A plain, mild soap is best, or simply water. Don't douche or use feminine deodorant sprays or scented pads or tampons. These remove your body's natural protective barrier. Just wash with mild soap and water. Then put on a clean pair of cotton underwear.
-When wiping for cleaning purposes, always wipe from front to back. Do not then wipe forwards. For the purpose of the toilet, discard the wiping paper immediately and reuse a fresh piece for the next wipe. If your hands get dirtied with faecal matter, wash them before wiping again (it is faecal bacteria, E. coli that is the culprit in 80 to 95 percent of UTIs[10]). Baby wipes without alcohol or too many ingredients (such as fragrance) might help with wiping if you're experiencing pain or a burning sensation.
Wash your hands after using the bathroom, always; this is simple, good hygiene.'

How brilliant to sell something that could actually be causing or aggravating the problem women are trying to prevent...

yellowraincoat · 29/05/2012 22:49

I don't really mind if I get people's backs up, thanks for the tip though, PA smiley face.

yellowraincoat · 29/05/2012 22:51

Besides that, I may have got backs up. You got my back up a few times with your snide comments. I have also had plenty of support, here and in PM.

Just because you feel like you're losing an argument doesn't mean you have to resort to personal insults or telling women what to do.

I thought it was the feminists' job to tell women what to do?

NaiceAm · 29/05/2012 22:51

Oh can I vote for this to go into Classics? I have not laughed so much in ages. This thread has been an education.

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 22:52

MATH: You need to research your history matey, people have been removing their hair for centuries. So unless they've done a bit of forward time travel I think the interne porn thing is out of the window.

How many times would you like to go putting words into my mouth math? You've done that on numerous occasions now. I never said removing of pubic hair is normal grooming. It is MY normal grooming.

Maybe you should brush your hair, I think there may be an infestation of some sorts affecting that brain of yours.

'Some women don't feel fresh down there, so these products are there to help them. '

You are such a sucker, a marketing department's dream...

'some women don't feel fresh down there' -- your insecurity makes you ripe for exploitation.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 22:53

Internet porn? Causing all the hair removal?

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 22:53

Snide comments? There's been plenty on both sides!

OP posts:
WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 22:54

Math - oh please. You buy soap because you want to wash dont you? You buy toilet roll you wipe your bum? You buy washing up liquid to clean those dishes?

Exploitation by those ruddy companies!!
