Because yet again I have the most horrific shaving rash! He says he doesn't mind but I do... Now I feel silly Blush

While we're here does anyone else suffer from the BURN and HORRID ingrown hairs? How do you prevent them.. I'm sick to death.

I wish I could just go all european and not do hair removal but it makes me itchy thinking about it.

No you didn't read that in the context of my full post.

I was on about social norms. Hair brushing, shaving legs.. All those sorts of things are grooming oneself and we do it because it's normal to don't we..

valiumredhead · 29/05/2012 20:18

Oh ok, will go back and read properly

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 20:25

I might not have made myself clear, I was just asking because it seems like people who shave their pubes because it's a 'social norm', are doing something wrong, yet it's okay to go along with all the others?

Actually sick of saying social norm now. I now deem it SN.

valium good luck with that! It's a bit mental this thread.

catgirl1976 · 29/05/2012 20:34

I feel the thread is slowing down a little.

Have we discussed the vajazzle yet? Grin

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 20:47

I was on about vajazzles the other day, don't the diamanté things fall off? :/

OP posts:
catgirl1976 · 29/05/2012 20:51

I haven't had one, but I imagine they would. Is there not a danger they would end up an internal feature rather than an external? That can't be good for you Confused

valiumredhead · 29/05/2012 20:55

Body glue is like super glue - it does the job!

BelieveInPink · 29/05/2012 21:55

FFS! There are fanny wipes on sale because it is a medical fact that women are more susceptible to infections, thrush, cystitis etc than men.

BelieveInPink · 29/05/2012 21:59

I'm only about 2 pages behind by the way. Don't mind me. :o

yellowraincoat · 29/05/2012 22:02

But fanny wipes GIVE you thrush. Perfumed stuff is not great for your vulva.

Doctors are forever advising against using that stuff.

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 22:05

There's obviously a market for this stuff in the first place otherwise they wouldn't make it. They don't make things on a whim, just in case it catches on and becomes a SN.

Some women don't feel fresh down there, so these products are there to help them.

You're making it sound as though everything women do/buy for comfort or to look nice for themselves, is being silly.

OP posts:
WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 22:07

They are bad for your fanny white. It's better to let your lady chemicals take care of it, and just have a smoosh with water.

I used a spray once, horrible it was. Never again.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 22:08

Clearly a gap in the market for knob polish though.

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 22:09

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong I know that! But obviously some women feel they need them in the first place. If it makes those people feel comfortable then where's the harm is all I think.

Personally the thought of femfresh makes me shudder

OP posts:
Moominsarescary · 29/05/2012 22:13

believe men can get infections, thrush, cystitis. They can also have problems with their foreskins. Why do you think women are more at risk?

As yellow says wipes can cause problems. I've never had a doctor advise using them.

yellowraincoat · 29/05/2012 22:17

I'm not making it sound silly. You're inferring that I'm saying that. But I'm not at all.

I don't believe that things are created because there's a demand. That's the whole point of marketing.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/05/2012 22:17

Well - I don't feel pressured to use intimate hygiene products just because they are there on the shelf, nor do I feel rhey are giving me the message that I must be sanitised and deodorised - but maybe I am walking round in a world of my own, obliviois to all the messages out there. But if other women are getting that message, then that isn't a good thing.

I don't think that women are alone in being judged on their personal hygiene - I expect dh and the dses to have certain standards - eg. sweat happens, especially as they are sporty and active, but I provide shower gel and antiperspirant deodorant and expect them to wash/shower regularly and change their clothes when they need changing - honking of BO is unacceptable.

When I was a teenager, my mum only let me have two baths/hairwashes a week, inly two clean school shirts a week, and didn't buy me any deodorant - and I hated knowing I was sweaty, smelly and greasy. It added to what was already a horrible experience (I was bullied to the point of being suicidal).

Moominsarescary · 29/05/2012 22:18

I'd get thrush if I used them. The same as if I use some soaps

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/05/2012 22:18

Apologies for the typos - fat fingers+smartphone probs.

yellowraincoat · 29/05/2012 22:20

I think the pressure is more insidious than just "fanny spray - oh, my fanny must smell, I should use it." But obviously people do use it, an entirely useless and, in fact, dangerous product, since it is on the shelves of every supermarket and chemist.

Of course hygiene is important. I don't think anyone's saying it isn't. But if there are female hygiene products, why not male?

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 29/05/2012 22:25

yellow you are right.
Fanjo wipes do cause thrush.
Using chemicals down there just isn't a good idea.

Empusa · 29/05/2012 22:25

I suspect, and this is going by my experience, that there are female hygiene products when there aren't male ones because boys tend to be taught specifically about keeping their genitals clean (lots of talk of smegma etc) whereas girls aren't really talked to so much about genital cleanliness. Which unfortunately means they are a little more susceptible to advertising - not knowing any better.

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 22:28

I suspect it's just because these companies know women are more bothered (generalising here) how they smell and how they look. That's why we have so many more products than men. I don't see this as a bad thing, I like having lots of things to use.

Also, women have periods. I know a lot of girls get self conscious around this time.

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 29/05/2012 22:29

And I'm very behind but I don't do a shaved fanjo either.
I keep tidy but prefer soft hair than regrowth and a bald fanjo .
