Because yet again I have the most horrific shaving rash! He says he doesn't mind but I do... Now I feel silly Blush

While we're here does anyone else suffer from the BURN and HORRID ingrown hairs? How do you prevent them.. I'm sick to death.

I wish I could just go all european and not do hair removal but it makes me itchy thinking about it.

We have been telling you, that out of the five or six choices that are available to us with regards pubic hair, we feel free to choose amongst them for differing reasons.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 19:47

There aren't many or any I can think of with men that haven't been groomed to some extent. You don't see any with hairy backs. Hairy chests come and go with fashion.

The only thing men don't do generally is shave their pits, that's a whole other Internet debate.

You don't see many with men with a shit load of curly pubic hair hanging down the side of their pants.

yellowraincoat · 29/05/2012 19:47

Yes, I have been reading that.

I personally wonder how many women feel free to make their own choices. Men too. It's great that you do feel free.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 19:47

How many men in adverts do you see with great honking Jesus beards?

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 19:48

Who has honestly said they're not subject to society norms? We all know we are, obviously we are otherwise we wouldn't wear clothes, wouldn't use knives and forks etc etc.
But shaving my pubes is my choice! Just like what colour I happen to dye my hair this month is, like what I have for tea is, choices choices choices. Whether you that's influenced by social norms is beside the point, it's still a choice.

I also do a lot of stuff that would be considered taboo, and against social norm :)

OP posts:
WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 19:50

And if I'm conforming by shaving my pubes, what are those that don't then? Since they're the majority? Surely they're the ones that are the 'norm'.

OP posts:
WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 19:51

I'm trying to say to you really that I accept my behaviour is within the limits set by society. For this reason I probably wouldn't do something like shave my pubes and make them into a hat. Or probably wear special trousers with holes in and stick my pubes through the holes. Dyed all the colours of the rainbow.

But back further up the thread, several people stated they trimmed for comfort, and were not believed.

Fashion comes and goes and we are free to follow it or not.

yellowraincoat · 29/05/2012 19:52

I wouldn't say men generally shave their legs either, in fact, I'd say more shave their pits than their legs.

Sure, in adverts, men might be groomed, but I wouldn't say it's the norm to be totally bare. Whereas in adverts, it is.

It would be quite odd to see a woman at the Oscars for example with body hair - look at the furore when Julia Roberts didn't shave her armpits or when Mo'Nique didn't shave her legs. But while men can groom or not groom, I've never seen any column inches about a man's hairy legs...certainly not expressing disgust.

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 19:53

So?

OP posts:
yellowraincoat · 29/05/2012 19:56

So...er...

What? You might need to be a bit more specific.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 19:56

We live in a celebrity obsessed culture. If Jordan steps out looking scruffy she is all over the Internet. I can remember a male celebrity getting all shades of shit for having a beer belly.

That's the world we live in. I read about the hairy legs today. She said she felt it was cultural as her mother told her only white girls shave. She was quite happy to show her pins.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 19:57

Men going bald, that's another one. God help them if they go bald.

yellowraincoat · 29/05/2012 19:58

She was happy to show them, but the world wasn't happy to see them, WhosPickleisThatOnion.

You can pick out a lot of example of problems men have too, it doesn't mean, however, that female experience isn't happening.

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 20:00

So what?! Really why are you still going on about it, we're well aware that it goes on its not like you're bringing something new to the table.

Like I said earlier, but was ignored.

OP posts:
WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 20:02

Women celebrities are constantly judged on their appearance. And the worst magazines for it are bought by other women.

They call them too fat one week, too thin the next, pick holes in their outfits, mock them without make up.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 20:03

Really if I went to my work Christmas do without shaving my legs, and flashed them, I don't see anyone giving much of a fuck.

yellowraincoat · 29/05/2012 20:03

Then ignore my posts if they bother you that much, Widow.

You seem to be getting a bit wound up.

WorraLiberty · 29/05/2012 20:06

I bet you're glad you started this thread now OP.

I'm so familiar with your fanjo I might send it a Christmas card Grin

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 20:07

I'm not wound up at all, in fact I'm painting my nails as we speak watching Come Dine With Me, happy days.

Anyway, I since this I remembered when I was about 8, a girl who lived in my street accidentally shaved part of her clitoris off Confused I just remember the ambulance turning up, her hobbling out and her mum rushing over to mine. I only found out what had actually happened when I was a teenager.

That didn't put me off evidently!

WhiteWidow · 29/05/2012 20:08

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 20:09

I know a lot about a lot of people's vaginas now. I saw a post today and though ah! The lady that shaves it off.

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 20:10

I wore a summer dress today with unshaven legs and didn't get so much as a glance.

WorraLiberty · 29/05/2012 20:11

I'll knit it a merkin for the winter Grin

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 29/05/2012 20:13

Not yours worra, yours just inboxed me to say it has a short back and sides, and isn't it lovely weather we are having.

valiumredhead · 29/05/2012 20:13

I like being well groomed, don't you? I never equate being well groomed with a shaved fanny,to me that sounds like if you don't you are 'untidy' which is not the case imo.
